Well she came to my town today to open up cheshire homes.
Well thing is I feel rather guilty cos my kids could have met her as my brother works there but I didn't think Josh would understand so I didn't get name on the list.
He went with his school and so he did get to see her and he was really excited and meh I just feel like the worst mum ever now.
I didn't drag my daughters in to town to see her either as its cold and they both have bad coughs and meh feel even more guilty.
such a bad mum today but my daughters are far too young to know who she is and would have only like the police, flags and horses around and they see police horses around anyway so do you think it matters? do you think I'll have them telling me I am nasty when they are older? lol.

Have any of you met the queen? I could have shaken her hand and spoken to her but I just couldn't be bothered tbh.
I've seen her on the telly every xmas since I was born so thats enough for me methinks.

To be perfectly honest I think it's a load of ****. I have no time for the royal family. Have no idea what all the fuss is about, it's totally unneeded!

lol Why do you think I didn't go ;) ;D
My view is the same too but to kids its different I think eh?
I know that if I took my girls into town they would have only been interested in the flags and the police horses thats it.
They see the police horses often so no point dragging them out in the cold just for them.

It's only the Queen. Never understood the fascination in the Royal Family myself.

I haven't, and would love to. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have the opposite feeling to most people here.

they'd only be disappointed. Little girls think Royal Queens are pretty and young and wear crowns. The reality isn't quite like that. :(

They don't even think that though as they are only tiny really eh?
They are both under 3 baby would have most likely only be snoring and well Georgina would have only been moaning about getting out of the pushchair and that would not happen in a crowd of people lol.
I just feel bad for Josh as he was so excited and he could have met her properly rather than waving a flag at her going up the high street in her car.
He is ok he just said oh mummy thats not fair. I explained to him that it was nicer for him being with all of his friends and he was ok :)

The Queen is worth a fortune in tourists money and as long as she continues to pay her way I'm happy to keep singing for God to save her.

I've seen her from a distance as she came to Swansea not long ago. I was working opposite the train station at the time for a Canadian firm and all the Canadian staff were ridiculously excited about her arrival at the station.
So I went outside with them and watched as she went off in her fancy car. Couldn't care less about her but it was better than working :p

Got sod all interest in the Royal Family personally, waste of space imo although suppose they do bring in tourists. It's silly how sycophantic the press get over them though

Can't be bothered with the queen myself, seems like a waste of money, but people say it all balances out, i don't know nor care enough. I find aristocracy and class and the whole royal way of things very annoying unfair and i don't see why i should like her or the family. My mum and aunt on the other hand love her and i went round the Royal yacht Britannia with them a few weeks ago, and it didn't change a thing i think about them :p That said i'm sure i would understand it a whole lot better if i was born into it ;D;D

If princess Beatrice was a little (i think i'm being pretty fair on her here) nicer looking i'm sure she'd be worth a go to get in on the royal act though :p:D

*here commences the argument on whether the massive tourism industry in london is due to the royal family or not*

Currently I agree with you.

However... Prince Charles is looking to be a proactive monarch who will break with tradition and actually voice his opinion (this hasn't been done since the 17th centuary)!

I have no interest in the royal family at the moment, but should its members become politically active (as in more than having tea and crumpets with the ineffective PM) then I will have more respect and interest :)

/me looks forward to a monarch with balls

Closest I got to the royal family was when they came to give my Employers a Queen's Award about 15 years ago. Was in the local paper and everything.

I have a fair amount of time for Her Majesty. Yes, she has a reputation for being aloof and at times somewhat insensitive.

Charles I'm really not sure about - yes, he seems willing to speak his mind, but I also think he can be a blithering idiot and puts his nose into affairs where it doesn't belong.

I *am* in custody, but I'm working.

;)

I'd have done the same, I'd have run up to her and licked the other side of her face!

your kids see the queen as a celebrity so want to see them as a kinda landmark.

personally, i think it's idiotic that we (as a nation) value what faimily you're born into higher than what you can personally achieve.

I think I'm with you :) My Bro got to meet the Queen when she visited his work place (Royal Institute). Apparently Philip was really chatty to him about his work and seemed genuinely interested.

I'm really proud of my Brother and was glad his work was recognised and of interest :)

Though. I dared him to wear a cowboy hat when he met her and offered £100!! He said no :( (thank Lordy too as I don't have £100 ;D)

Im in two minds(not for the first time) about the Royal Family. On the one hand they are an institution and in some respects contribute to defining who we are as British or English People. On the other hand they are so far removed your every day Mr & Mrs Average then you have to ask what do they contribute other than the big tourist industry.

I take my hat off to Prince Charles for the sterling work that he has sponsored through the Princes Trust. That is work that undoubtedly has helped change some peoples lives through his position in society.

Closest I came to meeting the Queen was a few years ago. My Mum had been a civil servant for ages. Although she was only a court usher, she had been recognised by the Barristers, Judges, QC's and Magistrates for the work she had done in the Childrens Court. She was nominated for one of them public CBE or MBE things. So with that, her and her family were invited to Buckingham Palace for the presentation and then afternoon tea with The Queen. Unfortunately I couldn't make it. As my Mum is a big Royalist, it really was the highlight of her career and something that makes me very proud of her.

I am with Dym in the respect that we should have a Monarch with some cahones and should help in shaping and leading the nation in conjunction with our elected Government.
