My sister is after a htpc now and has asked me to spec one up, so I've come here for help.

Needs to cost no more than £300 and at the most will be used to decode 720p files. We already have a hdd and optical drive, so just after a mobo, cpu + fan and ram. She has decided on a case she likes - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141001 so that's one thing out of the way. This is what I've got so far:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Socket AM2 2.6GHz Energy Efficient L2 1MB (2x512KB) Cache Retail Boxed Processor

ABIT A-S78H 780G Socket AM2+ onboard VGA 5.1 channel audio mATX Motherboard

Crucial 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL6 Lifetime Warranty

Scythe Mini Ninja Socket 478/775/754/939/940/AM2 Heatpipe Cooler

Extra Value 80mm Internal Case Fan - 3pin

Vista home premium 64bit.

Thanks folks.

CustomPC recommend the http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151484 if you can fit a full ATX board... [edit - which having just looked at the case, it would seem you can't, nevermind :p] [edit 2 - my bad, it's this mATX they suggest - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150282]

Just bear in mind Abit no longer exist properly, they went into liquidation or something, so might be worth looking at other options brand wise. Everything else seems ok really.

edit 3 - a TV card might help :p
