Activision have recently released new information which I thought some of you may be interested in, primarily in the form of PGR, Call of Duty and Guitar Hero news.
This is taken straight from xbox360achievements:
A new Tony Hawk which you will "not be playing with a controller in your hands."
Tentatively titled "Guitar Hero 5" next year. This title will feature loads of in-game advertising. The first screenshot showed a Burger King ad to the right of the fretboard during gameplay.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 announced.
New Racing IP from the team that made PGR. "Mario Kart meets Forza."
James Bond "racing-oriented" game.
Sadly it seems like Guitar Hero 5 will annoy many with all its advertising, but I'm hoping they can put together a good track-list, they need to look into other genre's though as many of the songs in both the latest Guitar Hero's and both Rock Bands are poor.
New Call of Duty MW isn't a surprise but it's definitely nice to see it official. There were many reported rumours that it was going to be space related (which I would have been interested in), but Modern Warfare is one of the finest full packages for SP and MP ever created and I think Infinity Ward are infallible these days :p.
I also knew about the James Bond racing game as my friend was working on it before he left Bizarre, it was originally dubbed 'Project Nightwing', but whether or not it will finally be called that is anyones guess.
Tony Hawks doesn't intrigue me really, primarily as it seems from the description to be Wii related, possibly using the Wii Fit board. The series was totally outclassed by Skate anyway and with Skate 2 arriving next year they will have to work wonders.
I was hoping for news of another GUN game having enjoyed the first one so much recently - and a western game on the new engines could be stunning.

Sounds dreadful....
But I love the PGR series so I'll give them the benefit.

Mario Kart meets Forza... sounds like Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts! To be honest, I just want another Diddy Kong Racing game, so something just like that with different vehicles (like in DKR) would get me excited!

I have to disagree with you on tracklists on RB/RB2 tbh.
Can't say I'm surprised at that news though although I seem to recall Activision making a little blunder recently....
I'd like to see a GH set list made up of some decent and recent guitar bands. Not all of us want to play hardcore metal tracks all the time.

I'll make this the last post on this topic in this thread but there really isn't much 'hardcore metal songs' as you put it....
I'd post the tracklists and break it down but that would be going way OT :p
Also decent, recent guitar bands simply do not exist! What do you have in mind?
So some predictable sequels, a dodgy sounding mario kart/pgr mix and another probably rubbish bond license cash in.
Surprise surprise.

Maybe not hardcore if you're in to metal, but if you're not, some of the tracks are a bit much.

I'm not "into" my music like some people are so naming bands is probably not the best thing for me to do as I don't know who most of them are these days ;D
I'd just like to see a bit more modern and popular music on there. Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene (OK, not so modern), Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, etc. I know some of these have some songs in GH but it's not the bulk of them.

One reason I haven't bought and probably will never buy a GH game is because I only know say 1 song per game, would rather put my money towards something else.
The new IW game has got me stoked

Oasis, Kasabian are deffo in :)
OCS would be cool as I grew up listening to that.
I suspect though a lot of songs get incorrectly labelled by people who aren't into their music. Can be a shame in a way as you can over look a lot of good bands like that - I know I have :(
Also dammit! Said I wouldn't post about this again in this thread :p
The metal stuff in the games gets on my tits, more often that not they are the hardest songs to crack but because I hate that music it becomes a chore.
That said they couldn't have picked worse guitar and drum tracks for oasis. The same for Blur, beetlebum wtf.
I prefer to play stuff I can sing along to myself while I play.
Another problem is it's very american biased.
The GH5 doesn't interest me in the slightest, I've WT this year and it's so poor I can't even be bothered to finish career with about 20 songs to go. I've now invested too much money in RB to even consider GH5.
I still cannot believe both games are missing out on a huge market, pop. If harmonix got their fingers out they could whack out a disc called pop band and get chart stuff added every week and clean the **** up.

You also thought Guitar Hero 2 had a solid track listing. If half the MP3's on your CD we listened to were on Rock Band it would be much better.

I would much rather play a lot of the pop songs out there than the ones they choose for these games for sure. I bet they'd be more enjoyable too.
As you said, they pick rubbish tracks from great acts.
For Muse they could have: Bliss, Plug-In Baby, Stockhold Syndrome, Muscle Museum, Citizen Erased, New Born and Dead Star.
For Oasis they could have: Wonderwall, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Champagne Supernova, Slide Away, Live Forever and Don't Look Back in Anger.
For Blur they could have: Parklife, Song 2, Country House, Girls & Boys and Charmless Man.
For Offspring they could have: TDammit, I changed again, Million Miles Away, Americana, Amazed, Self Esteem, I choose, Bad Habit, Dirty Magic, Genocide, Mota, Lightning Rod, Staring at the Sun, Come out Swinging, Conspiracy of One, Special Delivery, Huck It and Beheaded.
For The Hives they could have: Walk Idiot Walk, Supply and Demand, Tick Tick Boom, B is for Brutus, Love in Plaster and Die Alright!
I could go on and on. They continually pick songs from the good artists that are more often than not, not their best songs. I was amazed to see Gone Away as DLC though.

So some predictable sequels
But good ones, no?
a dodgy sounding mario kart/pgr [Forza] mix
Well, as Forza is great (and PGR as you mentioned it, which is brilliant) I don't see your point. Why does it sound 'dodgy'? It could be brilliant.
and another probably rubbish bond license cash in.
You say without actually knowing anything about it, any screen shots or videos. Considering Bizarre usually only release very good games I don't see your view.
Depends, the sequels could be good, could be bad, either way they were all predictable, which is all I said.
I'm really not sure how they plan on mixing a serious racing game with a cartoony weapons based racer. Serious racer with weapons? Fun racer with serious cars? I can't see how a blend of the two will work really.
I say that about Bond on the basis that nearly all film licenses are quickly knocked out cash in games. Goldeneye was good, then everyone wanted a piece of the Bond pie and they've virtually all been crap since (WINE, AUF, NF etc. etc.). Why is this one any more likely to buck the trend, considering Activision are hardly at the height of innovative and redefining gaming experiences?

I would hazard a guess that it's customizable racing. Possibly something similar to what Banjo Kazooie has done.
The bond game isn't a movie spin-off, so they obviously feel they can do something very good with it. Also, Quantum of Solace is apparently pretty good. As for Activision not being the most innovative for gaming experiences, Call of Duty 4 has monstered awards since its release, as did the Guitar Hero games before them, the Interstate games, the Tony Hawks games, Quake series..
Activision aren't a bad publisher. They don't develop the games.
Quantum of Solace is indeed surprisingly good fun, I'm impressed.

Nor were AUF or NF movie spin-offs, they were still crud though.
I'm at a loss as to what random awards have to with games being innovative though. Just because Sequel Game 23 was good, doesn't mean it was innovative.

If Sequel Game 23 decides to break away from the mold and pursue a new era of focus then that in itself is innovative, a la COD4 not being WW1/WW2 in setting.

And the perks system for the multiplayer imo :)

Guitar Hero = Innovative.
First Tony Hawks game = Innovative.
First CoD game won all sorts of awards for it's cinematography and sound = innovative.
Quake = innovative.
My point was that Activision have been innovative many times over their history, so there is nothing saying that they won't be with these games.
All of which were the first games of a series, however my comment was directed at Guitar Hero 5, Tony Hawks god knows what number and CoD 6...
Besides, all I ever said was that they were predictable sequels. If I had asked you what games you thought Activision would release in 2009, you'd have listed all of those wouldn't you? ergo, predictable.
And at the moment, Activision aren't among the most innovative or daring of publishers.

Well, not playing Tony Hawks with a controller is a step towards hopefully being innovative in the right way :p.
I don't disagree with you in regards to Activision, I'm not much of a fan of many of their titles and they pale compared to both EA and Ubisoft for me. However there is no taking away the quality of some of their titles. What has been rumoured does sound like it could be innovative, which is the point I'm making and also that they shouldn't be written off so quickly.
I never doubted they were predictable.
