View Full Version : Sushi
... it's 0wns.
That is all.
I've never had it. I realised in Aroma the other week that they had some but I was on the ice cream by then :D I'd love to try it though.
I love sushi muchly. I don't have it very often so was really pleased to find a new Japanese restaurant near the office in France.
Yukisans japanese restaurant in Plymouth provides a delightful selection of sushi :D I had the pleasure of monkfish for my sushi course ! :D
THere are no sushi restuarants in exeter :(
I was so enraged when I moved here I actually seriously considered putting a plan together for opening one myself.
I have never tried proper Sushi, or even restaurant-quality Sushi (which in most cases in the UK still probably isn't proper - raw fish - Sushi).
All I've had is the supermarket imitation stuff, which I have to admit I seem to be addicted to. I generally have a look in Tescos every time I'm there - sometimes I resist, many times I don't.
Oddly, I much prefer Tescos Sushi to Waitrose equivalent.
PS - I never bother with the Wasabi or the Soy Sauce sachets, or the chopsticks (I have a supply if anyone wants some ;)). The ginger certainly does what it's supposed to though. :)
Proper raw sushi is divine!
When I was in Japan a few years ago I went to one of the big fish markets at about 4am and ended up having sushi for breakfast at a restaurant just around the corner where the fish was so fresh it was still warm. Scrummy.

Actually Sushi isn't "raw fish" but vinegared rice topped with fish, meat or vegetables :) Hence the option to have chicken sushi, cucumber & avocado sushi etc :)
Raw fish cuisine is called "Sashimi" :) Maki is the most commonly immitated dish aka "the sushi roll".
Pheebs you and Lord Picklington of Onion should make the trip to Plymouth for a night at Yukisans! Fantastic selection of maki, sashimi, yakitori, kabayaki seafood (alot of lobster/oyster options), and then the delicious japanese steaks, ducks, chicken etc :)
I smell... (and hopefully taste) a south west BD meet coming on! :D
This thread has made me want hamachi sashimi!
I wants Harumaki crispy rolls with minced chicken and prawns! :D (to start!)
...
Paul - wanna go to Feng Sushi again? Have some more of those tiger prawns!! Yum!
Mmmmmm sushi!! Absolutely love it. I've got a few basic ingredients together to make some, but have never got around to it.
I've never made sushi, primarily because I'm not convinced about the quality of supermarket fish. If I were in London and could get to Billingsgate Market (http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/corporation/LGNL_Services/Business/Markets/Billingsgate+Market/) then I'd give it a try.
Had some only yesterday, sushi is lovely. Tamago nigiri, Tekkamaki are favourites though I don't think I have ever had a piece of sushi I didn't like.
Me either. I love a little wasabi, ginger and soy sauce on it too. Gorgeous.
There's a sushi restaurant in the Mailbox in Brum that we thought had shut down. Thankfully it's only moved and prices are very reasonable. We're definitely going there in the New Year :D
I LOVE Sushi, i am really annoyed that the closest i get to it around here is the M&S stuff which isn't the same. Hence everytime i go to either Cardiff or Brighton i make an effort to have a meal on Zushi, Yo-Sushi or Moshi Moshi.
