View Full Version : Things that change...
Smarties... just eating a 'box' of them now.
They taste bloody awful! Not like I remember at all! They taste artificial - like fake smarties... horrific!
Anything else that has change for the better or worse?
BB x
PS bad days call for chocolate apparently
Yeah smarties are horrible now since they removed the artificial colouring and flavourings :(
Walker's cheese and onion crisps. First they put them in foil packs, then they removed all the saturated fat. Neither of these did anything for the taste.

They have REMOVED them?
Urgh... if this is what real food taste like then they can keep it!
They really taste gross. Might complain :D

McDonald's chips. Ever since they switched from lard to veg oil their chips have tasted like crap. Even with salt.
If I'm going to be eating at a fast food joint, I obviously really don't care about my health at that exact moment in time. So screw being health conscious at McD's or Burger King. Gimme good taste!! Give me PROPER food!!

Really?! They use oil instead of the lardy stuff...? I remember having to deal with the lardy stuff when I worked there.... yuk!
PS Wispas taste the same.

The Chinese have a saying I use All the time.

Frazzles, No they are not sposed to taste of soggy sponge Mr Co-Op, thanks for trying to keep them around though

Yup :(
Imo if I want to eat chocolate and 'bad' food I should get to enjoy it fully along with all its E numbers! But that's probably a whole other debate in itself ;D
Chips..
All chip shops now use veg oil, instead of drippings. No taste it'srubbish. I should open up a chip shop that does proper chips and beer battered fish which isn't cooked for 10mins and ends up dried out..
It amazes me how wrong 95% of chip shops get it wrong. Fish and chips is not hard at all.
The Coca Cola Lorry advert. They've replaced it with an alcoholic Santa Claus advert.

QFT!!!
That advert sucks!!
It isn't Christmas until the Coca Cola ad with the trucks and music 'Holiday's are coming, holidays are coming' is on :(
Or the Polar bears one as it was cute! :)
I agree, all this taking the fat and salt out of unhealthy stuff makes it taste of nothing. We know it's unhealthy, it's junk food, PUT IT BACK!!! If I wanted healthy crisps I'd eat a carrot.
Pot Noodle, another great example!
However, orange starbursts taste more fruity - which is good! :D

I find them really odd. A proper single pack from the shop taste nice but a multipack bag taste more like beef crisps. 'tis very odd.
And foil packs are the biggest scam ever, they do nothing to improve the freshness of the crisps. It's just an excuse to get rid of the see through window so you can't tell that there are ony 5 crisps in the bag.
Salt and Vinegar Discos.
They used to shred the inside of your mouth due to the flavour, now they taste like every other salt and vinegar crisps :(

It amazes me how wrong 95% of chip shops get it wrong. Fish and chips is not hard at all.
Apparently only 5% of shops get it right.
I'd say that signifies how hard it really is.

I remember a friend of my uncles dropped him off at our house 1 night and decided to pick up some fish and chips from the local chippy in our village. He walked in looked at the fish and walked out disgusted. I suppose after living in Newcastle for most of your life then East Yorkshire, you get used to good fish and chips.
The stuff down here is rank apart from 1 chippy out of the 30 or so around my area :(
The only good place for Fish and Chips is West Yorks. I've only just started eating the fish down here but that's only because I have had to resign myself to it :/
Whitby is the best place on the planet for fish and chips. Nowhere else even comes close.

QFT. Gravy and chips - obviously is a necessity ;)

Wagon Wheels. They used to be the size of actual wagon wheels now they are like oversized Smarties.
Caramac's Used to taste lush but now they are just very caustic on your throat.
Vimto. Even the proper stuff doesn't taste like Vimto now. it's just like red juice type stuff.
Radio 1. Jesus I remember when the music used to be good, DJ's were funny(Mark & Lard anyone) and they were original. For me Chris Moyles is the epitome of Radio 1. Pedling the same crap jokes he was doing 12 years ago. Doing the same old routines. Yay for Lardy McFatpants from Leeds trying to shock us all with his dry wit /sarcasm
I've seen the 'real' Coca Cola advert quite a few times already this year ::/:

Its officially Christmas time as of about 10 seconds ago! Because I wasn't getting excited already.....

Our Chippy is fabulous. And CLeethorpes has by far the best F&C EVER.
I was going to say Grimsby fish is best but Cleethorpes will do ;)

QFT :D Our chippy is pretty good, but nothing touches Whitby fish & chips.
Agreed with BBx on the gravy front too.
I've also seen the Coca Cola lorry advert this year. Admittedly only once and it was on Channel 4, but I've seen it :)
Onlt found 1 chip shop with half decent chips that does gravy :( It's just not a southern thing really :(

Creme Eggs.
Too small now.
See the massive campaigns they had in America saying how Creme Eggs hadn't gotten smaller, you've gotten bigger and that's all it was? A guy (some celebrity - BJ Novak from the US Office) is addicted to them and has a freezer full from years gone by and he brought them in to show Conan O'Brien (I think) and the size difference was massive.
Edit:

Had to find one added recently as it looks like Cadbury's went to lengths to pull this video down when it originally aired.
Superb. I wonder if he has a Wagon Wheel at the back of his freezer somewhere?
And Curly Wurlys, they used to be reeeeally long!

And Curly Wurlys, they used to be reeeeally long!
One of the prop guys working on "Life on Mars" sourced an original Curly Wurly wrapper and it was longer than the ones in store today.
Caramacs aren't flavoursome anymore :(
Chocolate in general tastes "thinner"... with the exception of BUTTONS!
Frosties go soggy in the bowl as quick as tissue compared to the milk resistant marine ceriels of the past.
What has happened to sweets?!!! Sod your expensive 5p each jelly eggs- bring back 3 for 1p blackjack/fruit salads! NERDS! Dweebs! Giant jelly dolphins and REAL tasting foam banana/shrimps! They taste so "healthy" now!
DONT MAKE THINGS HEALTHY - promote them sure, but don't change them! If we want healthy- We'll choose healthy! Don't remove our choice for delicious chips, chocs, sweets etc!

I swear to god I was talking about those things only yesterday.
Talk about Deja Vu.

Reminds me of when the whole 'GM foods' thing was at it's peak. Was in one of the supermarkets (might have been iceland) who had all sorts of signs up about how they "support your right to choose" and "all our foods are now GM free". My first though thought was "What if I *want* GM food then?"
