View Full Version : We've moved!
Hello, we're on a new server now *waves* :)
Are we better than we were before? Better? Stronger? Faster?
We hope so :D
Is it odd that I can get in, but Sinead can't? ;D

I can now .. yay !
Are you sure something happened? ;D
I'm loving this. It's really quick. :D
PS - layout of the header has changed a little. :)
Aye, was the only thing we couldnt iron out in testing - didnt think it was important enough to hold off for though. Will fix it soon :)

We were hoping it would be but didn't want to say it would be just in case. We're not at our usual load yet so I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how it holds up under the usual strain. I think it'll be great though :)
For me, it was getting to the point that it was running dog slow whatever time of day it was (several seconds to post, for example). It's just about instant now. I suspect the server you were on was being oversold - something I know Beansprout won't do (at least not out of his own choice). :)

Oh well, not bad when you consider that it's 7500 miles or something between where I am and the server!

Aye :) Though it'd be pretty hard to overload this quad xeon / 15k scsi raid 5 server :D
Got a new dual-quad-core system too, very nice thing 'tis....

Because of Chromes silly DNS cache thingy I've only just been able to get back on here :(
edit: And what do people mean when they say headers?
They mean you should stop using a gay browser. You stupid incorrect header face.
That's the green image not loading. I've changed it to a solid colour as well in case the image doesn't load in future :)

Hmm loads in FF but not in Opera. Can't unblock/block the BD logo I think.
Nevermind, fixed it. blUnderboss out. :p

Gallery and Chatbox are private :)
I don't think the chatbox is used much these days though.
Chatbox hasn't been used 'in anger' in a few months AFAIK. It doesn't work at all now though. :D
Hmm, it did work when I was testing. Will look at it tonight, though you're right, it's been quiet for some time :)

The edited by has always been there hasn't it? It should have been anyway.
Yes, but the ability to click it and see the edit history was not :)

Does that only happen for the poster (plus admins I assume), or can everyone see that?
I found an editted post and couldn't look at history so assume only the oster

Correct, you can only see your own, mods/admins can see all edits :)
So ninja edits are still sort of possible then.
Edit history isnt captured during the first 2 minutes of a post, or for people who have stealth edit powahs, so yes, very possible :D

It is, it just doesn't show the "Last edited by..." bit :)
I've lost a number of graphics, the header, various buttons that allow jumping to the last post etc. All in the last hour or so.
/edit - ignore me. I was trying to block a specific avatar using Adblock but it seems as though doing that kills things badly.
Did you try a custom Adblock on the entire URL? I just had a look at what Adblock suggested and that would cause trouble.

Not sure if this is related, I haven't used the Chatbox in over a year but I get an internal server error (500), compounded by a 404 on the ErrorDocument.
It is related. I'd be inclined to consider whether it's worth investing the time needed to fix it.
There is a chatbox plugin for vB so may look at dumping the old one and swapping to an easier integrated one. Shouldn't be too much work.

Get in where ?
Desmo, if we're keeping things around, then I like that plan muchly. The current one was too prone to doing random stuff (particularly with usernames). The only reason we didn't do that last time was because the current one can be 'disguised' sufficiently to make it 'boss safe'. :)
Aye...but I think I can give the vB chatbox it's own theme meaning I could still make it fairly unintrusive, though not as good as the old one.

Nope. You just have to be prepared for the rest of the forum to go all Windows 3.1 on you when he tries it. ;D

Same difference. If you've actually used Windows 3.1, you'll understand - though I've had the distinct (dis)pleasure of Windows 1.0(ish). :)

Or even OS/2 !!!Kinky sod! :D
OS/2 (at least 2.1 onwards) was way better than Windows 3.1. I rather liked OS/2 when I got it - first with 2.1 and then Warp (3.0) - until Windows NT 3.51 arrived and put several nails in its coffin.
I've still got a set of Warp CDs that I bought myself if anyone is that way inclined. ;D
Back on topic, is it my imagination or have certain custom profile fields disappeared?

I was looking at a profile that I thought had them, but didn't. I've since found a profile that does. Arguably one of them is on the wrong tab but I don't suppose you have any control over that. :D
Is it me, or are the forums getting a little intermittantly sluggish this evening? I hope it's just me, because otherwise I'd have to blame Beansprout for doing something he shouldn't. :)
It's not just you Mark, it's hideously slow for me. The network side of things seems quick enough and search is fast so it doesn't seem that the box is overloaded.

Seems ok from here (Virgin) which is unusual :)
Edit: There might've been a spike earlier but only in terms of file downloads which didn't affect the CPU or network ('tis on a gigabit connection)....no spikes on the graphs other than that.
It actually seems ok now (also on Virgin) but it has been awfully slow for me since I got home from work.
OK - maybe the blame moves from Beansprout to someone else I know then.
Burble, how's this (http://www.teamocuk.co.uk) site for you. Despite the name, it's mine and it's hosted on another of Beansprout's boxen in the same DC.
That site loads instantly, Mark. BD is a helluva lot slower than the site you linked but it's still significantly better than it was a short time ago.

Virgin can sometimes be problematic in that they and another provider keep having arguments which occassionally affects us....but I was using the BD server from 7:45 - 8:10 and it was ok during that time.
Well I'm on Be Unlimited, so that kinda kills off that theory (unless they or O2 are the other provider). ;D

Blocked a single IP and the system's load has halved to a more normal level, let's see what that does.

I've noticed it being a bit slow on occasion but I was just blaming my flatmate and/or Virgin for the connection being a little tardy.
