I've never been a fan of Wallace and Gromit but I'd be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy this. I chuckled all the way through and there were some great parodies of a fair few other movies.

It's not being shown here in the UK until Christmas day but for some strange reason the Aussies got it a short while ago so it's out there to download.

W&Gs first few films, namely a grand day out, the wrong trousers and a close shave, were utterly sublime. However as of late things haven't been so good, especially the curse of the ware rabbit, i found that incredibly dull. If this is a return to form (as many have stated it to be) i'll be over the moon. To this day i still dust off my old VHS of the wrong trousers and fire it up every christmas eve before i go to the pub.

You'd think my parents own the show given the number of W&G pieces they have around the house (probably in the dozens, and I'm not kidding). They even had a custom wheel cover made for the spare wheel on their old car (before they sold it, obviously). Yet, for all that, they don't seem to pay that much attention to the actual shows. :dunno:

PS - M&S do a W&G christmas card. It seemed appropriate to send it to them. :)

Totally agree.
As he is laying out the track he slowly gains on the penguins train and, as he pulls alongside him, he scowls at the penguin.

Absolutely superb cinema IMHO.

lulz, I was thinking does he know something I don't, proof is out there that they are Wiganers. I see Gromit on his bike some times.

When you can convey so much expression from a character that doesn't even have a mouth, you know you're good.
Even wall-e made noises to add an extra dimension.....Gromit only has eyebrows and ears to do it :D

Ok, so let's do 'spot the movie references'

Does this need the spoiler tag? I'll use it anyway :)

Psycho
Jaws
Ghost
Batman - As soon as he reached out of the window and saw the ducks I was laughing and called out "Nuns next?" :D
Aliens

Any others?

I knew I recognised that scene, I couldn't place it at all though at the time!

Didn't spot the first one. Don't recall the 2nd reference from any of the films. I recognised the scene but couldn't place it.

It was the 60s TV series I think, rather than a film

Spoiler for anyone who still hasn't seen it:

The Powerloader spoof had me in absolute stitches, especially when the floodlights came on. Kate has never seen the end of Aliens so she didn't understand why I was crying with laughter :D

There were loads of little nods to films in the background too - a 'Citizen Canine' poster in the bedroom, a 'Pup Fiction' book in a trash can... And surely the opening rescue had a slight Raiders-esque feel to it...*

And of course 'Top Bun' on the truck!

Edit: * I totally meant Temple of Doom i.e. minecarts.

Watched this on NY's day, and found it very funny, like has already been mentioned the nods to other films was very amusing and I kept finding myself trying to see how many I could spot in each scene...

Was Top Bun on the truck? I missed that, I saw it on the windmill sails though...I think :)

Watched this and Curse of the Ware Rabbit last night!

Loved them both! They're so fantastic - I just love all the stupid ideas and mechanisms they come up with! I would ADORE to be in the room with these people when they're coming up with these ideas! How completely and entirely awesome would that be!?

The Aliens scene had me lolling too :D Heeeheehee!
