After someone recommended Chuck to me, i thought id pass on another show that people may really like.
Testees.
Its about two guys who work as medical testers, i watched the first episode with my daughter last night, it was brilliant :D

Reaper
House
BSG
I also like, Lost and Heroes but they are obvious choices, I'll probably start of Dexter when I finish House S4
MB
Veering away from the 'American Drama' theme that seems to be emerging, Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe is brilliant
I am trying to avoid the mainstream stuff like Lost, Heroes, or even House MD.
I like Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, How I met Your Mother, Leverage (only been 3 episodes so far, but it's quite fun) and and i keep saying this as i only discovered it not long ago, Gilmore Girls.
My two favourites at the moment are:
West Wing
Boston Legal
Couple of older ones.
Murder One
Hill Street Blues
M*A*S*H
Roots (mini-series)
Shogun (mini-series)
And I agree with the Gilmore Girls, it's surprisingly good.

The series of Last Man Standing that just finished was top drawer and still on iPlayer I believe. If you watch just one go for the water buffalo racing.
Big Bang Theory is great.
If you never saw the first season of Murder One track it down and treat yourself.
Meerkat Manor is the best soap opera on television.
And for outright rofls there's Summer Heights High and Flight of The Conchords.

Bad Lads Army.
You'll need to catch it on a re-run, but I find it reallly entertaining to watch these "tough guys" who take no crap get steamrollered over by the Army.
Top quality viewing IMHO.

Hah, my mate's brother in law was the one who arose with morning wood. :p
holy thread revival!
Just got this :
If you are not already aware, Animal Planet US recently made public that they have no plans to support a fifth season of Meerkat Manor. Without their financial backing the company that actually films MM, Oxford Scientific Films, has no plans to return to the kalahari either. There is still the chance to see the Whiskers again if a strong fan response convinces a network to bring the show back.
A dedicated (obsessed!) group of meerkat lovers has generated an international petition to bring back Meerkat Manor. To sign this petition, please click on this link: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/19/Bring-Back-Meerkat-Manor
Care2 is a safe and reputable site. Please take a moment and sign for the future of the show.

True Blood - Vampire drama set in the deep south of the US with a british star (although like Hugh Laurie he's pulling off an excellent american accent). Season 1 just started on channel 4, but me and Mrs Dym have seen both seasons and reckon it's ace :)
Fringe - Sexy x-files type thing based on an investigation team who employ the use of 'fringe' science. Watched the pilot last week and thought it was pretty good, will update if it gets better/worse in subsequent episodes.
Rude Tube - Alex Zane presenting videos from the web. A new series of 'top 50' countdowns began last night with Heroes and Villains (Linky (http://www.channel4.com/programmes/rude-tube)), moderately humourous, lots of stuff you'll have seen before, but there was at least one video which gave Mrs Dym a fit of the giggles :p

Isn't that just youtube for people who don't have the internet?
I don't watch much tv but lam loving Harper's Island.
I'm a sucker for medical drama so Holby City (plus of course I like to watch Connie Beauchamp's lovely bottom), Casualty, House are a must.
At the moment I'm glued to my Northern Exposure boxsets though!

Love this show, the first 2 episodes of season two on Sky one have been ace so far, as was series one.
Band of Brothers.
Blue Planet
Planet Earth
Those in HD are an absolute must.
Charlie Brooker Screen/gameswipe are just piping hot satire, brilliant, I echo Rich's recommendation.
Another for Breaking Bad too. Spooks, Life on Mars, Wire in the Blood. All those can be pretty good. :)

The Shield - easily the best and most gritty police series I have ever seen. Nearly on to series 5 of 7 and I'm completely hooked with the story and where they're taking it. If you've never seen it, I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Was going to recommend Chuck as well but I'm starting to get bored of it. Sarah and Chuck's love life is getting tedious and so is the dweeb antics of the rest of them.

Another Connie fan ?
I would hump that til my twig and berries turned purple and dropped off.
I am with Davey Pitch on The Shield. Probably the best TV series I have seen to date.
I'll try and recommend something different (difficult as so many good ones already mentioned). One I really like is Damages, why they have this on so late on a week night I don't know, it's quality tv. Also enjoying The Good Wife at the moment too.
Oh and I can't stand The Big Bang Theory! I fail to see what's so funny about it.

Lol I think everybody has a show like I "have" The Wire. Any opinion I hear of it is complimentary and that I should watch it, but it may take an episode or two to get into.
I've seen the first 4 now and that took a long time. It's really good but I just can't get enthusiastic about it. Nothing really is making me come back to it otherwise I'd have seen the rest by now. I dont think it helps that like Deadwood, I sometimes have to replay entire conversations because I can't understand what's been said all the time. Like how the Yanks needed English subtitles for watching e.g. Snatch or Lockstock.

No one's mentioned Californication which actually as of the 3 season might be one of the most cleverly well written and filmed tv series i've ever had the pleasure to watch, totally serious on that! :D
Season 1 and 2 were good in their own right for wasting time watching but it just got better and better as time went on, 3rd season was just phenomenal.
Other than that, i LOVE LOVE LOVE House (which although still excellent took a dive around season 4/5 but right back up there as of 6), Breaking Bad and Dexter are simply amazing as well, and i've also enjoyed Secret Diary of a Call Girl recently, and Outnumbered is easy watching obvious funny kid/adult combo :)

Seconded!
Excellent series :)
The Jeremy Kyle Show
It's like the Jerry Springer show but British and with less horses, midgets and pixellated areas. Really entertaining with some fantastic, classy guests. They're usually doing a lie detector or paternity test which makes me so excited for the next episode! It's great, it's just like going down to the chavviest shopping centre you can find and just people-watching - but from the comfort of your own front room! Y'all should watch it, I think you'd like it.
The Jeremy Kyle Show
I <3 JK
As does Lom (she "would" as well!!)
The Kill Point - my all time favorite series, watched it 4 or 5 times. I don't do that with other series.
A group of military veterans, who recently returned home from serving in Iraq, band together to pull off a major bank heist.

Sons of Anarchy - New series starting soon on bravo. Far prefer this to the big American series.

Need a new series to watch thinking maybe Jericho. Heroes I've been watching and enjoy, 24 is good but same every series, lost I got bored after series 3. BSG was ok, SGU is pretty good.

I'm only 4 episodes into the first series but I'm finding it to be pretty great so far. It has all the best bits of American Gothic + Vampires + all the cussing of Deadwood + copious shagging + written by the same chap as 6 Feet Under (and there's vampires and shagging).

I caught the pilot showing of a new series a couple of years ago when on holiday in SA (2008). I really enjoyed it, but it wasn't on over here when I got back. However, I was flicking around the other day and stumbled upon an episode... The only trouble being, it's half way through god knows what series now...
It's called Burn Notice. It's about some CIA agent who is "burnt" (sacked) in the middle of an operation. He gets out alive (obviously, or there wouldn't be much of a series;)) and then returns to try and find out who ordered his burning and why. *shrugs* I like it. It's about the only yank tv program that I've seen that I can watch.

Managed to catch the pilot and second episode of Gravity. All the reviews seem to slate it, but well, compared to some of the drivel out there I honestly don't think it's that bad.
It's about people who survive their suicide attempts. It has the slightly emo looking girl from Weeds (fatty girl's older sister) as the lead.

Throwing my lot into the pot. I fear judgement.
The Mentalist - Smug git but still amazes me how the CBI agents are still baffled by his behaviour every episode.
Big Bang Theory - Have to be a bit of a geek to get some of the jokes, thankfully I'm there. Also, Kaley Cuoco helps a lot.
How I Met Your Mother - Hilarious, Genius, Alison Hannigan. Need I say more?
Chuck - Better every episode - and also awesome soundtrack(Glasvegas, Twisted Sister, Embrace)
Cougartown - VERY sceptical at first, thought it would just be old divorcee's chasing 20-somethings but it gets funnier as you watch it.
Law & Order SVU - Working out who did it is almost impossible sometimes, keeps me watching.
Never Mind The Buzzcocks - More please, some musicians are too public-unknowingly hilarious to stop this show. Kelly Jones, Josh Groban & Bernard Cribbins(though I knew he was daft from Fawlty Towers)were fantastic on the last series.
Big Fat Quiz of the Year - I know its only on once a year but simply for putting Sean Lock & James Corden on the same team one year and Russell Brand & Jonathon Ross the next is Einstein-esque. Lock's rant on kids is legendary(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfFSxyrCnLk)
Old Skule Timelessness
Seinfeld - Absolute perfection of a sitcom. Apart from the end, it shouldn't have ended.
Red Dwarf - Sci-Fi Sitcom, how does that work? I don't know. But its amazing. 3 TV specials with no live audience were un-necessary and unfunny. Bad idea boys.
Fawlty Towers - 12 episodes, 12 hernias! Awesome.
Tom & Jerry - Pecos Pest, best cartoon ever by far. Last one Fred Quimby was involved with and last good one.
True Blood - Vampire drama set in the deep south of the US with a british star (although like Hugh Laurie he's pulling off an excellent american accent).
Hugh Laurie's rubbish American accent is very annoying!!!
If you like Dexter, I recommend My Name is Earl - although its probably been around for a while, I watched it the other day and it was quite amusing :)

Agreed.
Not a fan of Earl, really. I find it quite childish and the Scientology connotations are worrying, to say the least!
I think there's a few people on here that watch similar TV shows to me and Sam so here's a list of the new seasons starting this September in the US:
Monday 20th: House MD
Tuesday 21st: NCIS and NCIS LA
Wednesday 22nd: Criminal Minds
Thursday 23rd: Fringe, CSI:Vegas, Bones
Friday 24th: CSI:NY
Gonna be a busy week :)
Also the new season of Lie to Me starts in November, couldn't find an exact date though.
Just finished Generation Kill, which I'd heard nothing about apart from being recommended by a couple of people at work. It's the story of the 1st Recon Marines and a Rolling Stone reporter in Iraq, during the first assault on Baghdad. Sand, crap superiors, lack of batteries, food and decent kit. Oh and crapping in holes in the sand.
All I can say is, I'm glad I'm not a US Marine...
Dex and Earl are nothing alike, not sure how you could say if you like one you'll like the other :s
