He's the guy from Peep Show, yes? If so, he's great! :)

That's where I know him from! Was trying to explain to my Mum last night who he was and ended with 'Erm we've definitely seen him in something, just can't remember what' ;D

Even better as the Marquis in Neverwhere

I'm 100% behind him getting it he's a good actor with a lot of TV experience, like many people who have gone on to get major parts he has worked with the Doctor Who team before in smaller parts, he would be an ideal choice.
On the subject of him being black, to me as a big Who fan its not an issue at all :)

Well it's not like James Bond where we know Bond is white, the Doctor could technically take up any human form couldn't he? i.e. Male or Female, Black or White?
I'm not fussed about his race at all, wouldn't be so sure about a female Doctor but that's more because it'd change the dynamics around than anything else.
He certainly seems the best suited out of the favourites :)

Well a female doctor with a male chasing her around as an assistant would probably come off looking desperate :p.
Who the heck is Matt Smith?

Never heard of him, looks like a goon too. This strengthens my opinions that doctor who is going down the pan (again)
No idea who he is, but I hope he does well.
David Tennant was hardly a well known actor by TV audiences before Doctor Who, his biggest appearance at that stage was just as Casanova.
No point dissing or dismissing the new guy until we've seen him in action.
Edit: teehee Garp, great minds ;D
Of course.. it's not like there are any greater ;)
Josh said he doesn't want him to be the new doctor..... I wanted to be the new doctor :(

I would have made a fantastic doctor, just think about it, a slightly overweight keyboard warrior traveling through time. I would go to the dark ages and complain about the lack of the internet, get nervous around ye aulde wenches, be certain that the cybermen make fun of me when i'm not there and generally be useless. The problem with the doctor at the mo is hes just too perfect, give him some athletes foot and a personality disorder and it would be far more interesting.
At least i would be able to subdue darlecs with leet speak.

This is why Tom Baker will always be my fav doctor, he was a flawed genius who wavered between love and hatred of humans sometimes declaring he didn't know why he should save such a destructive race, he was snappy, forgetful, terminally silly looking and had bad hair some of not all of which made his doctor the most interesting to watch.
The Doctor needs to return to complex moral dilemas and also to space because these 'save the Earth' episodes, however cheap to make don't really cut it. I don't care if the sets fall apart I want some NON CGI/ NON earth based adventures with some substance, and get rid of the whole concept of the Doctor falling in love, its effectively beastiality!

I agree with MatBlack, the doctors are too out there, but not opinionated enough.
Personally I really liked Christopher Ecclestone because he was angry ;D
I'm not a massive fan of Dr. Who, but I remember watching it a lot when Sylvester McCoy took the role. Part of the charm was that he didn't quite dress right, almost as though he didn't get how to dress himself. The modern Dr. Whos seem to be too effortlessly cool.

Young and unknown, I think that's what's needed. And a pretty scottish redhead to boot. Can't be bad!

Been watching her in the Kevin Bishop show repeats. I would do very naughty things to her for a very very short period of time :toss:
I'm sorry but I think he looks like a bit of a gimp. Tennant was awesome and this guy just doesn't look the part, already.
Maybe he'll pull it out the bag but he's definately got his work cut out for him.

I watched "Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks" yesterday. Tennant did some excellent shouting.
I don't think new boy will be able to shout like that. :(

I've not seen anything of this new lad who'll be playing the Doctor, but then again when Tennant took over from Ecclestone he was a relative unknown to me (I have since watched Casanova and LOVED it!).
He may look a bit kooky at the moment, but the Doctor is somewhat of an eccentric...
The other important thing to remember is that so far we've only seen stills of him as the Doctor (unless I've missed something!) so have no idea of how he's going to act in the role, how he'll sound, what mannerisms he'll take, etc...
I'm going to miss Tennant, but rather than crucify him before he begins I'm more than willing to give the new lad a chance, you never know, he may blow Tennant's Doctor out of the water!
:)

That's how I'm viewing it, I don't like the way that a lot of people are dismissing him out of hand without even seeing what he's going to bring to the role.
Oh, I preferred Ecclestone to Tennant anyway.

Made me chuckle :)

I was just coming in here to post something along these lines myself after pondering about it on the bus home after work yesterday.
Everyone heavily criticised the choice of David Tennant (including myself) after having had such a brilliant and much too short lived in the role Eccleston. Tennant was this "unknown pretender" with "little major acting credit to his name" other than Casanova.
Then he turns out to be one of the best Doctors in the history of the show.
I'm not going to make that mistake twice, let's give the new guy a chance in the role first before criticising him.
His outfit strikes me as perfectly classic Doctor quirkiness, kind of an old-school professor look with better footwear, and a lack of paunch and little glasses much to small for the face.
When are the next Doctor Who specials?
November, I think. Don't recall if there's another one after that (presumably Christmas).
I'm not dismissing him out of hand because I have seen more than just still shots, he's been interviewed for the role, I've heard him talk on several occasions. Tennant struck me as the perfect Doctor when I first saw him, he looks kooky but smart, he has a young but wise face etc etc. This guy doesn't, in the interview he's a bit, how can I put this kindly, I probably can't. Autistic. It's just my opinion, he doesn't seem like he's going to be an entertaining Doctor from what I've seen so far, whereas with Tennant I was already thinking "this guy seems ace"
