View Full Version : OMG HOOOOOw much??
went out with my mummy as it was her woolies leaving party and was shocked by how much a bottle of vk or ice was  £3.55 omg!!!!
Anyway was a good night out and although thats the end of woolies everyone was in such a happy mood it was lovely :D
I got chatted up 3 times :D
Once by a bloke who was about 50  he bought me a drink and told me I made his night.
2nd time was by another 50ish bloke who would not leave me alone :( and a lisa who was with woolies group had to et christian (ex boss) to come and help me lol as he just wouldn't leave me alone.
Then again but a bloke who was about 30 I just told him I was taken but thank you its nice to know you like me and your not so bad yourself type of thing lol ;D
Price of beer is always shocking in clubs, let alone spirits drinks. They've got you by the short and curlies because you can't bring your own drinks in and they sting you for everything they think they can get away with. I once did the math whilst coming back from clubbing. Metric -> Imperial conversion is tricky when drunk. "A litre of water is a pint and three quarters", the result nearly shocked me to sobriety. You can usually expect to pay something like 3 or 4 quid for a bottle of Budweiser if you're lucky.
(1000/330) * 4 = £12.12
(12.12 / 7) * 4 = £6.92 per pint!
As I've got older although technically I've been able to afford it more I've been less able to justify bar booze prices. It's shocking the amount some people manage to drink their way through every week! Maybe I'm just a miserly home alcoholic :D
I went to a pub/club before christmas with work, the prices were ok but I was drinking southern comfort and coke (first time whilst not in house). He poured the measure from the optic and said "how much coke you want". My first thought was that I'd like some SC in there first! I'd never noticed how small a measure is before.
When we make them at home we must be having triples or quadruples.

Oh dear - only been there three months and you've already been indoctrinated. :p ;D
Anyway, I almost do the 'sobriety' bit and I've noticed the same with soft drinks in some places. I wasn't paying that much attention, but I'm sure that on occasion I've been charged close on £2 for a smallish glass of lemonade. WTF is that about. :/
Yup, alocoholic drinks are bad enough, but soft drinks are downright robbery.
Especially when they openly pour it from a 2 litre bottle (price marked 99p for example) and underfill the glass, and charge £2 for half a pint. :lipsrsealed: me off no end

You should report them to the brewery, im fairly certain theyre breaking the law.

I thought I'd be polite and not make a big issue of this. The word "math" really annoys me.
They joys of being a lightweight o/ I used to drink like a fish at uni, but then again most draught was <£2 /pint. Only have a couple out now, four and I'm on the floor. Trouble is its long been the case that its cheaper to actually buy beer than drink coke.
I am like Jonny in that I like a nice beer and watching a film in the evenings.
I think in Leeds in a few pubs its £3-£3.40 a pint. But that is right in the centre.
Don't come to London then - thats pretty cheap lol!
I guess one of the 'benefits' of being in London is that everywhere else is cheaper so you take advantage.
Ha ha... glad you enjoyed yourself though.

Think it was an independent, and it shut a while back anyway. Been rebuilt into a restaurant (so probably even more expensive!!!)

£3 a bottle is a pretty standard affair in "most" clubs now. There are definitely cheaper theres no argument, but then they aren't always the places you'd be dancing just tanking up before you really go out :p

My favourite club does all the VK bottles for £1.50

they do them for 99p from 8-10.30pm on a friday night at chicagos.
The price goes up in clubs my mate said and that they are about £4.50.
I drank carling in the end as it was £1.85 for half a pint.
Next time I go out I'm taking Iain as the bloke that wouldn't leave me alone really scared me :/ my mum and friends huggled into me in a tight group and he still pushed his way through to get to me eek.
It was christian (ex boss of woolies) that scared him away in the end and glad to say that I think he got kicked out lol.
weird man, should I be upset that I attract old men?? lol
I got chatted up by a really fit bloke so I think that makes up for it lol
Really can't wait to go out again as 4 years was a long time to not go out

Ah, they're £1.50 in Legends from opening til close :)
I don't know any club here that sell them that cheap all night although we have a Lloyds bar which plays music and I think its like litten tree at night and they sell drinks cheap-ish.

Urgh.. "math" was a typo, not deliberate. And the Bud thing was just because you really don't get much choice of beers in clubs.

I still haven't gotten over paying £8 for a malibu and coke in London :(
£8?? OMG I thought £5 for a double malibu and coke was bad.
I hate going to town, £50-60 for a night out is outrageous I just drink before I go out and in the cheap pubs/bars before going to a club, £2-8 entry then £4 a bottle, a nice place in town does double vodka red bulls for £2.50 but if you want something different you pay through the nose.

I think its just cos its gone up a fair bit since I went out last but then it has been 4 years lol
That bloke really has put me off going out without Faysh :/ he was a right creep and I can usually handle drunk blokes. scary but kinda funny I guess.
My friend lisa said to tell him I was a lesbian and I thought it might have been best not to say that as it would have made him worse lol
Maybe I should have said I have The bad AIDZ lol

I was Really Gutted for the folk in my local Woolys & felt a little guilty for having a job. I chatted to the 2 girls behind the counter & did my Best to show them I cared. Seeing the place all stripped out was not nice.

It was horrible coming home when we saw it empty as we was at Faysh's parents when ours shut.
some have got jobs where as others are really struggling to find one atm.
I think I was the oly one who was sad lol they were all on such a buzz and was lovely to see them having fun.
I got to know a lot of them really well as we spent so much time in there what with my mum working there.
Still feel sad walking past the empty shop, its such a shock that there is no more woolies :(

^^ That's good to hear :)
I wonder if anybody has bought the name to use over here yet
My mate got Radioshack but you'll have to ask him, WHY ???? ;D
Whats radioshack?
Woolies here was selling the cctv system and shelves and everything they could.
Whats radioshack?

Radioshack became Tandy, or was effectively the same brand IIRC.
Oh right. I have heard of Tandy but not Radioshack.
Since woolies and whittard started shutting down there is rumours about loads of shops in town closing and even the pubs are being asked if they are closing.
I guess people think if woolies is shut then everywhere must be struggling too.
To be fair, Woolies didn't really have a clear direction in the UK. For the last God knows how many years, they have just been selling random tat at higher prices than local rivals. It's not that much of a shock really, but it's definitely a shameto see the name disappear from the high street altogether :(
Radioshack was, and still is, a US company. They opened/bought stores under the Tandy name here and eventually sold them all out to Carphone Warehouse.
The original F W Woolworth store was in the US, but they sold all their 'supermarket'-style (UK-style) stores (including the UK and Australian ones) and then rebranded as Foot Locker. That company is still going and owns several stores in the UK under the Foot Locker brand. Woolworths Ltd is still trading in Australia.
This is exactly why I often prefer to go to a nice pub/bar rather than a club. You get completely ripped off, the Oceana in Wolverhampton want £4.90 for a bottle of Budweiser. It's just ridiculous and they know they can do it because people are normally drunk enough to pay that much once they arrive at a club, and they won't want to be there without having a drink, so they'll pay, even if it's just a single drink before moving on, the club has made a huge profit.
Coincidentally this is on my list of things to do if I'm ever PM:
Establish a Fair Pricing Authority that regulates clubs and bars to sell their beverages at a competitive price. They already charge entrance fees, and reservations for parties etc, there's no need to overcharge to that degree for drinks.
£4.90 for a bottle of Budweiser.
 Flipping heck, daylight robbery!

Difference is this is a very nice pint of Courage Best. The landlord looks after the pipes etc, oh for the days it was £1.75! (About 6 months ago).

Soft Drinks are the biggest profit pusher in bars. We charged 75p a pint for Pepsi where I worked, which is much cheaper than most places and our profit was still massive.

IIRC, it used to cost 4p in premix syrup for a pint of Pepsi when I worked behind the bar (mind you this was  18 years ago)
Last I heard was 12p a pint but that was bout 10 years ago :)
75p a pint is perfectly acceptable.
So many blokes! What were you wearing? :D
Nothing maybe thats why lol
I was wearing a black top with lace on it and a black sparkly shrug with black trousers nowt special lol
It was OLD MEN!!!!!! I attract 50ish men :( although I did have a 30ish greek (I think) bloke chatting me up, he was really fit but I has Faysh :D who is much fitter (obviously not in the health way) lol.
Prices haven't put me off that much as I am going out saturday with my girlie friends :D really need a good night out as saturday I was behaving lol.
