I'm gutted! This is my favourite music venue bar none and I've been to some awesome gigs there.

I've only seen a few bands there and found it very crowded, last one was Panic at the Disco and we ended up watching from behind the chicken wire in the bar at the back because we physically couldn't get to the floor. Its a nice small venue but Brixton and Shepards Bush both top it for me. shame to see it go though :(

Not been to the Astoria in the last few years. Was always a good place though.
Good old compulsory purchase orders. :(
I can see your point MB, getting stuck behind the chicken wire by the bar wasn't great. I've always been one for queueing to gear in near the front so had only been behind the wire once.
Yeah I went one stop too far on the tube yest to go and have a last look at the outside. Scaffold covering it so couldn't see.
Hurrah for "progress" - at the cost of 13 nice buildings including an historic music venue. To be replaced with a bland white elephant.
If crossrail was that important they'd have built it decades ago, instead the models were consigned to the museum in the 80's...
I went to G.A.Y. there once! Interesting experience, lol :p

Last time I went there was to see BIOHAZARD back in november. They were amazingly awesome, and I'm really sad to see the venue go.
However MB is right that it was always too full when sold out, that seems a really stupid thing to say though.

I remember seeing Madness. the Specials and Ian Dury (all in one evening) there when I was a teenager. Don't remember the venue too much only that the acts were superb.
