Anyone familiar with a sym jet 100 scooter?

I have a friend that lives over there that needs a new piston and crankshaft for one. And possibly someone to help put it all together. He's a little skint right now (single dad of three kids), so would probably only be able to pay in kindness (or I could for him without him knowing).

He's very proud and is stuck walking an hour to work and an hour home. And when that's all said and done he's out of energy to do anything with his kids (all teenagers).

I'd really like to help him out, so if any of you have any contacts or friends at a local scooter shop I could find out where he is and see about getting you in touch with him (I have him on MSN right now).

Whereabouts is he located? I'm sure an engine change on a scooter can't be too hard.

Scooter engines are a doddle, Cables off,Fuel line, a few bolts & it drops out. I'm not familiar with those at all but I have done Untold Brettas & Vespas back in the day :cool:
If the crank is fubared then the engine swap is definately the way to go & it is that easy that with a decent manual & a few people to phone if needed he'd do it himself.

I was talking to him today and he's had an offer of a partex on a 125 Piago for 700 quid. If he can come up with the cash he's going that route, but if cash becomes too much of a problem he'll be picking up an engine.

I told him he could do the engine swap in his living room with a Phillips screwdriver and an adjustable wrench basically. I asked him if he could change a power supply in a computer or a ceiling rose. He said yeah. I told him he was thereby qualified to do the engine swap on his bike.

He lol'd.


I don't remember where he said he lived. I'll ask him again.
