I'm not going to be posting all the time but I want somewhere to dump stuff so this is my thread for doing so, consider it a 365/52/7 of a slacker :p
Popped out just now and tool this, it took me a bit of fiddling around to get anything like a moon and then I realised some fundamentals;
a) you need a fast shutter speed as the moon is a long way away and any movement at your end is going to cause blur.
b) the moon is bright but your camera will probably think that with all that dark sky it needs a long exposure (same as a)) you don't
c) ideally the aperture should be somewhere in the middle I think but my best shot was taken wide open :dunno:
And I get this

Which with a 200mm lens I thought wasn't too bad :)

Cool! Very atmospheric :)
Oooh I like that :) Like vix said, very atmospheric.

On points about long exposure and keeping things still, i think its better for the picture but to take it you need a remote and a tripod otherwise its impossible without the slightest ever movement/blur. Looks good though :) Defo go for a slightly longer exposure i think if its possible though just for some more detail :)

Problem with this shot is that it really is on the cusp of pixelating, the 200mm just isn't long enough and this was the best of a lot of experimentation. I need to get my hands on a TC x 1.4 in the future or a cheaper long lens :)

Tripod, yes. Remote, no. You can use self-timer to much the same effect as a remote for these shots. You do of course need a remote for Bulb mode, otherwise it's camera shake ahoy.
Both long and short exposures have their place in this sort of work - short for crisp detail as in MB's image, longer for time-lapse and effects shots.
Good shot though, and it's taught me a few things about my own attempts (which weren't even close, pixellation or not).

I did this using the benefit of a tripod, using timer and after about 100 shots of varying exposure...

Nice!
I'll wait for a full moon and a clear night before I give it another go, what length lens were you using?

300mm IIRC - was a clear night. If you have a tripod you should use it, if not try and make the camera stead and use ISO100
Lowest ISO, on a tripod, F8-11 (usually the sweet spot for most lenses), take off any UV filters etc. and use remote/timer to release shutter.
Play around with various shutter speeds until you hit an exposure you are happy with.
I'll have another go next time there's a full moon. Mine all lacked detail but I think that was due to having the shutter open too long.
