Theyve just been saying on local radio that we are due another 5 - 10cm after 10pm tonight.
I heard the Radio 4 weather at 1pm. Spectacularly vague. 'There will be snow across some parts of Wales and the Midlands'......erm which parts? That covers an awful lot of the UK and the difference in weather between North and South Wales alone can be huge, let alone throwing in the West and East Midlands.
Hate the BBC's reporting of weather for Wales (actually and mostly anywhere that's not the South East of England), it's awful unless you watch the BBC Wales news reports. Half the time the weatherman's got his arm in front of Wales as it is :/
Rant over :D
Looks like snow early and late tomorrow and then all night Thurs->Friday. Lovely at the moment, a little chilly with the wind but the sun is out and actually felt quite warm at points!

I'm just between Winchester and Southampton and they keep changing their minds as to whether we'll see any of this precipitation tonight and if so whether it'll be snow or rain. Most annoying thing is that since I'm supposed to be moving house soon I've cancelled t'interwebs so *have* to travel in as I can't work from home :(
Chuckles about people getting stranded with only a few inches of snow...
Shall I bring up my pictures of the drift in my driveway from last year? The ones where the top of my truck was no longer visible? You know, the truck that was taller than me? And I'm 6'3"...

Ok school just descended into chaos after an announcement from the headmaster about the possibility of school being shut tomorrow.
I can't actually find the one of my standing beside the drift right now. I think it's still on my external hard drive buried at the back of a storage garage. But this one is just a plain snow fall. Nothing unusual, just a little snow.

Well, I found one of Tina that she's probably going to kick my *** for showing, but anyways...
http://www.boomspeed.com/bofh1968/chevy/snowblower.jpg
Just for info's sake, Tina was standing on approximately a foot of ice/packed snow there that the snowblower just would not go through. The blue arrow is pointing to our mailbox which was about a meter above dry ground. The red arrow is pointing to our trash can which the lovely and wonderful plow truck had struck and tossed it aside about 40-50 feet. It's on the other side of the road from the mailbox, and Tina is about 80 feet closer than the mailbox.

Good thinking!
I have claimed a new charger and brought my laptop home just in case. It's been sunny all day here and hardly any of it has melted.

As has the other half. London appears to be preparing to be shutdown for the next couple of days.
Which is a pain in the arse as I'm off to the IMAX to see Dark Knight tomorrow and Friday is a nice day shopping in London and chasing that up with an evening at a musical and a decent meal.

My mom is panicking! She even went out this evening to make sure she had extra food in, and asked me if I had a spade in my van, told me to take food with me tomorrow, fully charged phone among other things! LOL ;D
Its meant to be snowing here tonight it snowed for a bit last night but only a little bit and it was that really fluffy flakey snow which doesn't mould so no good for snowball fights lol. the rest of the snow from monday is hard now and slowly melting.

You nearly had me there, but no deal. Just checked the forecast at a couple of places and it seems odds on that it won't get that far east.

It was snowing heavily here about an hour ago. Don't settle you ****! I have to get in to work tomorrow...
Just started raining here atm :(
Just looked outside and the snow has returned here though I'm not sure how much.
As Jhadur suggested the forecast is for it to turn to rain from the south so it all depends where the line between rain and snow is as to whether it'll still be white outside in the morning.
No gritters went past last night and the road is completely covered with snow this morning. FFS :(

No gritters last night, and shed loads of snow this morning, oh joy!
Drove a mile up to the big main road roundabout and it was just as bad there. Fully covered with snow and no grip whatsoever. Turned around, drove back and got stuck on the steep hill about 100yards from the house so Leon had to rescue me. Have abandonned ship on next door's drive and am signing in from home for now.
Apparently it's just as bad in Derby. I can't drive 17 miles in this! :(

just been outside and we have about 1/4 of an inch of snow and it's sticking
About 6" in Warwick I reckon. Still, I made it in okay :)
Been told to wait till 9am before even thinking of setting off. Took my dad nearly an hour to get to work this morning, should take 10 minutes. Apparently the A5 was like an ice rink and most of the roads round here are blocked. just another 1/2 hour to see if I have to go in or not.
My sister's school isn;t closed but she and half her dept aren't going in as they can't make it. Bloody media trying to guilt teachers into making into work when they shouldn't be driving.
Rain here.
Grit is useless in heavy snow. Unless you dump an utterly enormous quantity.
Light smattering here, currently being destroyed by the rain. I should imagine the main roads are fine.
We still have icy/snowy white pavements, and some smaller streets are still undriveable, but it's just raining now and cold and it looks like the snow is definitely on the way out. Although they warn there will be a return of snow next week.
Grit only works as the snow is falling and it's being ground into the floor by traffic (which does help). Heavy snow falling ontop of grit does sod all in the quantities we've been getting and certainly for the amount of grit we're putting down. Snow ploughs AND grit are much more effective - but we haven't got the infrastructure for this.
There was no snow when I went to bed but when I got up at 6:30 I was greeted with about 5" of snow in the back garden and with more coming down so I went back to bed for a couple of hours.
It is still snowing and looking out the front window it doesn't look like the road at the end of mine has been gritted like it usually is. I know local councils have been running low on grit. Apparently Northamptonshire council have used more grit in the last 4 days than the whole of last winter.
So I'm staying at home today.

Kim's working from home today. had a good 4 inches of snow I reckon. I'm not going outside to find out though.
Woke up to find that the trains are shafted with a replacement bus service some of the way to London and the roads haven't been gritted so the cars are barely moving. So, stay indoors it is then.
Rain down here, as it's coming in off the south coast now it's not cold enough to turn to snow until between winchester and basingstoke.
I'm just between Winchester and Southampton
I didn't realise you were another southerner (or maybe I did and forgot :o )
3 out of 12 on my team have made it in so far. Leon called me from work to say that 11 out of 30 on his team have called in to say they've given up. He had to give someone a lift who gave up. My brother and his GF aren't going in either. Another inch of snow has fallen on my car since I gave up and it's still coming down.
I know people are being heros and braving all the odds to get in, but looking at the amount of people skidding all over the place outside the house, it's not safe out there and I'm just not prepared to risk it. If I don't crash into something, someone will crash into me. I cannot afford to have no car and can work from home, so that's what I'm doing!!
I didn't realise you were another southerner (or maybe I did and forgot :o )

it's still coming down here with a light dusting but nothing heavy. If it turns heavy though we are in for trouble as so far it's stuck to all the pavements and side roads.
Looking at the snow outside my house it doesn't look like any cars have driven on it so it seems that lots of people in the street have decided to stay at home.
Looking out of the office window at the back of the house there are loads of kids having a mahoosive snowball fight on the green. I wish I could go join them!
We haz snow again this time its about 5inchs and schools are closed.
We could have had a lie in :( gonna see if we can get up my mum's but roads are bad.

Dude, a Saab with some half way decent tyres on it will go anywhere you ask it to!! So long as you're not turning your front bumper into a snow plow trying to drive through 4 feet of the stuff you'll be one of the few non-4WD vehicles moving!! I was lucky really, heading to Hinckley the roads got better, I did hear that going towards Derby was bad (A514 is closed).
Took me an hour to get Dee to work (5 miles), and 45 minutes to get to the office (~16 miles). Getting through Swad and Ashby was difficult, after that it wasnt that bad - or at least the roads werent.

I spent 10 minutes scraping the 4-5 inches of snow off the car, got just about enough traction to back it up the little hill off the driveway and thought 'I'll give it a lash.' :numpty:
This was about 7.15. Made it to the A34 OK. Slow but no problems, traffic report on Fox FM was about 10minutes long. M40 again was OK. 'Wa-hey' I've slipped through the net somehow, i thought. Turned onto A43 and almost immediately hit traffic. About 7.50 this was.
Lorrys jack-knifed on the slip onto the M1 at Nothampton had backed it up all the way to the M40 junction (15miles or so). Only one lane had been cleared so it was either sit in a queue or brave the white bit off to the right. Some nobber tried it in his Picasso and that lane ground to a halt too.
9.30 I finally crawled into Towcester and limped in to work to find that about 6 of the 25 staff have made it in and I'm the only one in my office.
Now I'm contemplating what time to leave to try and pick my way back home through a snarled up Oxford.
Snow's started again. I might just call it quits and head for home.
I hope this is noted when pay reviews and bonuses are worked out next month.;)

I'd leave soon tbh as its getting pretty heavy now.
A few people haven't turned up at work, but not many. Most of us just left the house a little later than usual. Luckily the A5 is pretty much clear now. There's talk of leaving early if it starts to snow again.
Someone here even biked from Coventry to Nuneaton, rather him than me, I would have just stayed at home.
Check the forecast. Last I heard it was supposed to thaw a little this afternoon, but the Met Office have done plenty of about-faces this week already.
We've had it worse this time than Monday. Monday was bad enough mind. I'm staying indoors for the duration. :)
M40 was clear on the way back to Banbury - 80 all the way!
Side roads are a bit slippy and Tesco carpark was fun!! Handbrake turn into a space. Unintentionally.

Yeah, that's the biggest worry I have. It's hard to believe that some people around here have lived with snow every winter of their lives and STILL have no idea what the hell they are doing behind the wheel...
7:15am... and 5:15pm.
Heh, at least I made it home at a decent time :) Most people did turn up during the day, tomrorow is the big worry if what is left does all freeze tonight.

I WANT SNOW DRIFTS TOMORROW !!!!
Pickys screwed! All the major roads are shut! It's snowy... but very slushy too!
His schools not shut though. Annoyingly. But all the staff from Exeter aren't going in. *phew*
It was heaving down with snow this morning but the main roads were clear. The roads in town were a bit slippy and I only went sideways once.

Wimp :p
It's fine here now, snow only really left of the grass and didn't seem to be any ice. It's started up snowing again but I don't see it being a major issue now people are back on.
Maybe we'll get another foot tonight, or Sunday night.
Dark, wet and miserable here with an icy cold wind :(
Dark and miserable, but white, here too. The weather forecast is slowly getting worse - a few days ago it was supposed to thaw yesterday, now we'll be lucky to touch zero, let alone get above it, today or tomorrow.
Need to go out tomorrow so I guess I'll be getting my 'snow shoes' out of the cupboard. That'll be an interesting experience as I've never had cause to use them before.
We recalled our Wellingborough drivers this morning
I'm not surprised, it was pretty bad yesterday.
Today though it's worse! It was snowing when I woke up during the night and it's getting heavier. It looks like the road at the end of my road has been gritted so if I need to go out in the car then I can.
I will need to go get some milk and bread but there's a Kwik-E-Mart about a 1 minute walk (or 5 minute slip and slide) away.
Usually being able to work from home is fantastic because 2 mornings a week I sleep in until 8:30 rather than getting up at 6:30 but for the third day this week I've been working when most of the rest of the office has had a day off. I probably won't work too hard today though :)
I'm in pretty much the same situation. All of the team I work with are working today (mostly because only three of us are in the UK and two of us regularly work from home), but the office is pretty empty from what I hear.
Newbury has also turned into an accident nightmare this morning - one of the main A roads in the centre of Newbury has two jackknifed lorries on it, and several other problems on nearby roads.
Dark, wet and miserable here with an icy cold wind :(
Disappointing isn't it, compared to everywhere else, we had a bit Monday and Tuesday and just rain since, although at least that does mean the snow wont hang around looking crappy while it melts slowly.
It snowed last night as is currently snowing off and on now. The roads, apart from the road I live on, are fine to drive on thankfully.

No its just windy and rainy here so if it does start snowing it is unlikely to lay - booooo :(
I'll take some photos in a bit its bloody mental out there lol
My back garden has really thick snow on it because it hasn't been touched its bloody mad looking out kitchen window.
I think it must be about 9inchs on the ground but about 6inchs on top of playhouse and slides.
I want to take kids out but its far too thick for them as they haven't got any waterproof trousers and it'll come over their wellies.

I just popped to the Kwik-E-Mart to get some milk and it isn't too bad out tbh. The back garden is probably about a foot deep but that's enclosed. The front garden is about 4" deep.
Yesterday there was quite a sizeable snow drift against the front of the car and the snow was lighter so I was expecting the car to be buried today but it isn't:

I was having the same thought about some snow I saw earlier, but then it occurred to me that it could just be compacting under its own weight.

Has anyone else heard about the Severn bridge? Apparently they shut it because massive pieces of ice were falling down and smashing car windscreens.
Bloody hell, no not heard that.
Just spent an hour chatting to a friend on the phone, she is fed up with being snowed in too.
My Mum is walking to the hospital to visit my Dad and its up a steep hill eeek
Its not as bad as it was but still deadly on the roads. I could get a taxi now but only if I walk to the main road as the streets have thick snow on them.
I can't carry ella that far in this lol so will just stay in the warm.
Edit: I'm soooooooooo bored!!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7873359.stm
Yup - both bridges are closed due to that. Newbury has its own version - idiots launching chunks of ice and stones off a bridge over the A34 near our big Tesco store and smashing windscreens. :/
We also have no buses, no rock salt to grit the roads, and it's only just warm enough for the snow to thaw at all. Delightful. :(
I think I still have about 20kg of rock salt in my garage. I wonder how much the council would pay for it. ;D
Forgot to mention. On the way into work yesterday morning, went past one road where the local residents were out with shovels and salt clearing the road themselves. Fair play to them considering the road they were clearing leads onto a main road.
I have ventured out into the big bad world. Roads are quiet but major routes appear to be passable (with care). Lots of slush about which is going to turn nasty tonight, especially with the lack of gritting (forecasts as low as -7C )
PS - I went out to post a letter. Whether it'll get where it needs to be in time, I really doubt, but if I didn't post it it definitely wouldn't.

We had a light snow over night, unfortunately after and before it iced up... like a snow sandwich ;D
Roads aren't bad now but the pavements are still (and the roads were this morning) just sheets of ice.
No probs on the roads home tonight, but it was a white out after I'd set off this morning. Still a good 3" of snow on the gardens and fields though. Very pretty :)
Just been out the front Josh was playing with his mate next door and it came over the top of their wellies its so bloody deep, so glad they didn't go in it this morning as it would have been above their knees.
Hopefully snow will be good enough to build snowmen tomorrow so they can play.
The road is mental and cars can't get any further than our house.
One van almost hit our car as he tried to reverse back after trying to get top the street past our house.
Its funny watching people trying to get up streets that you can tell is impossible lol
Just hope you can get home Faysh :/
This is Josh falling over ;D The path is ok now and not so deep!!

Today we closed Luton, Wellingborough, Northampton, Milton, Bristol, Milton Keynes, you get the picture!
Don't think the Wellingborough drivers even left the depot today. They'll have 3 days worth of freight to try and delivery on Monday....
One guy I work with left Oxford for Banbury this morning after a night shift and had to abandon his car part way home.
Hope I can get home....
what will you do if you can't? :/
Think Banbury got hit hard, apparently at 7am it was fine and by the time one of our guys decided to leave he changed his mind. Given he'll probably be forced to take it as holiday...
loads of the main roads got closed off today cos it was so bad, think they closed them about 8-9am as it was so bad.
Gonna be deadly tomorrow what with not having and grit.
Yay Faysh is home in one piece lol
We can haz grit! Thanks Medway Council. :)
Newbury got hit hard too. The A34 was a complete disaster area with jack-knifed lorries and people in queues for three hours to get a few miles. Nowhere near as much snow as Banbury had though judging by those pictures.
There's a pathetically small amount of snow coming down at the mo :(
Suddenly had lots of snow coming down on the drive home just now :D It's sticking quite a bit so hope it continues overnight :)
We still haven't got any grit by the looks of things :( its pretty bad on the roads now as the are freezing and the roads are either snowy or wet from snow gonna be really bad in the morning.
Faysh said he had people in for drink driving today its bad enough on a dry day but in this weather? lucky nobody was killed.
Bright clear sunny blue skies here - probably bitterly cold outside so I'll stick to looking out the window :p
Yup, same. Seems to be just about warm enough to start a very slow thaw. Think I might venture out as apparently the buses are back running.
We are meant to get more snow on monday!
I think we've had our fair share of snow we got about 6inchs thurs and then about 6inchs friday as well.
We also got a couple of inchs monday. surely no more? lol

lol what about a snowlady with big norks? like josh made lol.
That's my boy!
There is still a lot of the snow on the ground here. In the back garden last night it was still about 5" deep.
For the first time since Wednesday I needed to use the car last night so I cleared as much of the snow as I could but it wasn't enough as the car got beeched! A quick helping hand from one of the neighbours sorted that. Because of the snow on the pavement I've parked it on another neighbours drive - mine goes angles down and then flattens out whereas nearly all the others in the street are just flat.
Roads and pavements mostly clear here but still lots of snow about and it's cold. Fields etc. are all totally white.

Metcheck reckons it is going to start snowing any minute now. We'll see!
Arse! I have a delivery due to arrive in stockport tomorrow! :(
What are its chances O Wondrous God of the Courier world?!
:D
BB x
All depends my love. Most of our SK deliveries have been unaffected, some premiums have failed but nothing too serious.
Most couriers will run one, possibly 2 linehauls over the weekend so this maximises the chances of your parcel "making it" to the correct delivery depot ready for Monday (this generally applies to all couriers, if you send it Friday the chances of it arriving Monday are MUCH higher than any other time, Monday is always my quietest day of the week because the fleet tends to go out on time because it was all loaded on Saturday and Sunday)
But if it lobs it down tonight all that will go out the window of course :D
Oh well, not much I can do about it now, except maybe I could have sent it all out on weds/thurs.
Nvm! Thanks! :D
BB x
If it snows tomorrow I'm going to go out there and kick its ass!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7877544.stm
A winter storm is set to bring snow and heavy rain to parts of the UK.
It is due to arrive in southern England and Wales on Monday afternoon, spread to the Midlands and continue overnight, forecasters say.
It could bring up to eight inches of snow (20cm) in some areas, and 30 to 40 millimetres of rain in others.
*hibernates*

It's snowing here but too wet to stick
Snowing here, very very fine though
Now snowing properly and starting to stick on roads and pavements
It's chucking it down here.
Argh, more service failures ahead then! TNT Wellingborough (024 ;)) will have 3 days' worth of freight come Monday. If they can't deliver for tomorrow I think they will reach capacity at the depot and have to start turning trailers away or just piling them up full in the yard.
It's chucking it down here.
Same :( if it keeps up we will end up with another 4inchs on top of the 12inchs from thurs and fri. arghhhh I am getting cabin fever here.
Right, where's my all-weather ass-kicking gear?

I love snow and if it just snowed on my grass and on the fields I'd be very very happy lol
Just so fed up with being stuck at home and not able to get up my steps let alone get out onto the street with buggy.
Been snowing here for a while now and it's settling :D Roll on the snow again :D
Argh, more service failures ahead then! TNT Wellingborough (024 ;))
I'll text you tomorrow with the report on the roads ;)
It's getting heavier here.
Tink and I cleared my drive earlier and what was a short while ago clear is now about an inch deep.
Same here Burb. Ah well no school tomorrow AGAIN unless the snow clears before the morning lol
I'll text you tomorrow with the report on the roads ;)
You're so thoughtful ;)
I took my already threadbare tyre down to absolutely nothing with 10 minutes of wheelspinning in 5th trying to jerk it up the drive in work (you should have smelt it) so I've just rushed outside and done some emergency surgery.

Just been round the block to turn it round and it's shockingly slippery. There's been no gritting today, it appears the wet slush we had earlier has frozen, and now snow has fallen on top of it. Not good at all.
Thats what our roads are like.

It's stopped snowing here. There is about 1.5" on the ground. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
Another pathetic attempt at a snow, about 1cm on the grass, its melt on the paths and roads.

Big snow storm here, just had to drive home from a meal, no gritters, no other cars, scary.
It was raning here at 4am, and raining again at 10am. In between it got a bit icy and we had a 10-mile tailback on the A34 thanks to several accidents, including yet another lorry.
What snow was left is slowly melting away. Last I heard the met office couldn't decide if we'd get any more tonight. :)
It's all rain here now - heavy heavy wet rain :p
I do love snow - it makes me rather excitable, but soon as it turns to brown slush it loses its magical charm!

Least the car got a clean :D

It rained most of the day, quite heavily at times but the snow that's falling now is sticking. Bah.
Didn't realise this was still ongoing! Luckily its just been rain in Essex and not too cold. The snow was seriously starting to wind me up though. I think it was also a touch of cabin fever.

I just walked home from a concert in a frigging blizzard!
Not fun! I'd quite like this weather to sod off now!
Not much in the way of snow up here but it's bleeding freezing. De-icing the car when it's -9°c is not fun. Looks like it's going to be the same tomorrow morning too
Dunno if it warmed or got too cold but mostly seems to be gone again on the roads and 'patio', just cold I imagine.
BBC NEws says:
A severe flood warning has been issued for the Rivers Chelmer and Can at Chelmsford in Essex.
Glad that I'm not in the valley then :) Been tipping it down all night and it's strong winds out there.
This weather is getting on my nerves now. I love the snow, but as there was not much last night it's all slush now :(
Lots of roads around here have standing water this morning, but otherwise it's now gloriously sunny outside.

Went past this into London this morning on the train. A fair bit of the park has been flooded. The bottom end of Arun Close by the river is all flooded as well.
Central park, er lake :D

Oops. That looks a bit wet. ;D
As long as nothing bad happened up Broomfield way, I don't mind about central lake (though I fear for your council taxes when the cleanup bill turns up).
I love the cyclist/walker sign you can see ;D Someone needs to add a swimmer section ;D
The effing snow is effing following me! I'm in Munich today and as I sat in the local Greek restaurant enjoying my gyros one hell of a blizzard started. It was bad enough that I couldn't see the car which was parked no more than 2m from the window.

Isn't there fishing lakes around there as well? ie the fishies will have now swam away.
Last night I had fun going around the back roads in Grantham on the way home as there was a massive smack on the A1.
I found a Camra pub and took a card..... I walked in and the entire pub turned round (15-20 people). I mustered up the deepest voice I could muster and said "evenin!". After a few replied with "evenin" they turned back to their beers. I thought this stuff was in movies or when you walk in a Man U pub wearing a Man City shirt :D
Sunny today. There's were masses of floods on Monday, spent the whole shift at work dashing round trying to close roads/stop people trying to drive through it all/move fallen trees.
