Using cmd to try and set up a bootable USB drive following instructions here (http://garyshortblog.wordpress.com/2009/01/10/how-to-install-windows-7-beta-on-an-acer-aspire-one-netbook/) but coming a bit unstuck at step 7.

# Navigate to the boot directory
cd E:\boot

Now, I tried this in Windows 7 (as Administrator and not) and it seemed not to be working and so I rebooted to XP and it still won't have it.

I've tried it with the DVD and a mounted ISO and whichever way I do it that command is not changing the directory so I can't get to step 8 to run bootsect...

Any ideas why this is happening?

(And yes, I am using my own drive letters :p)

Just type 'e:' :)

It's a silly quirk of the Windows shell. If I'm on C:\Windows, and I 'cd d:\music', I change the working directory *on the D: drive* - you still actually have to change to the D drive make that *your* current working directory.

Right, that has got me to...

G:\>

Being shown, so how do I get into G:\boot so I can run 'bootsect nt60' ?

edit - ah now that cd command works.

cheeeers :)

'cd boot', or just 'boot\bootsect nt60' to run it directly, or from anywhere 'g:\boot\bootsect nt60' should start it.
