Ok guys so I am still there
I'm reaping the benefits of being employed & being payed, 40 inch HD TV, New washing machine & my SAAB is proof of that, This is mainly down to initial tax breaks where until I have earnt 5k I don't pay any, I think next month puts me over that so the month after will be normal tax & flat wage :(
The job goes well & I do a shift without it killing me, It is very physical work & doing it between the hours of 11pm & 8am really knocks you about. For me not only did I have to get used to working again but also had to get used to nights, To say it has been tuff is a massive understatement but I've done it.
Monday night my Manager came up to me & told me he had been looking at how best to use the staff he had & asked if I would fancy a go on Produce. I said If it gives me a better chance of being kept on I'll do owt. So from Friday I will be on Produce.
This is my new challenge & an even bigger one than the last 8 weeks. Produce is the worst job in the store, No doubt about it, I will be on my own doing all the Fruit & veg which comes in those big green plaggy trays. Anything up to 150 of those trays a night full of Apples/Oranges/Cabbages/Lettuces & the like that weigh a ton.
The way I see it is that My manager is thinking about me & this is the Final test on whether there is a Permanent place for me in his team. If I can physically do this job & do it well then I will triple my chances of being kept on.
This is it guys & gals, If this don't kill me then I really do think I have a damn good chance of being kept on
These next few days off I am preparing my head for a full on assualt style attack on Produce, I'm going to get myself proper revved up & blank out any negative vibes/thoughts.
I'll sort my diet out to suit & treat this as a Training regime
Wish me Luck as I will need it :)
Sounds like an awesome chance to bulk up :D
I have visions of you putting on a bandana before your shift and doing some heavy breathing karate kid style ninja meditation! Good luck fella :)

Want me to make you a cape? :D
No but I think you have to draw him one.
JSB - If what you say about your attitude to work is true, I think you're someone they're looking to keep on and the fact that you're still there, past the Christmas period, during the credit crunch is testament to that.
^^ Agreed - all of your posts towards work shine with a level of commitment that any employer would be foolish to get rid of.
Congratulations JSB - keep us updated on how you get on with the dreaded produce :)
Aye keep it going dude. Sometimes little tests like this come along. When you move up the ladder you can speak with experience to people who moan about some of the jobs they are being asked to do and it gets them nowhere.

Well Thankfully our New night manager has had a fantastic effect on the whole night shift. For 2 months under the section manager we had our delivery at around 4am which gave us around 3 hours to complete & clear the floor
You getting yours at 6am is just plain Mental mate & if I can say so Blatant Poor Management. Our new manager within an Hour recognised the effect an earlier delivery would have on the nights work & sorted it within 2 weeks, We now get our delivery Before 1am giving us 6 full hours to sort the floor
In my mind I am quite happy about this move as it gives me more of a place amongst my managers team. I will be the only person doing Produce Fri.Sat.Sun & monday nights & once up to speed my Boss can forget about me & the produce section confident that it will not only be done in time but will also be done well. I am quietly confident that if I achieve my aim then my job will be "relatively" secure which is all I want for my efforts :)
The bonus is the physical effect it will have on my body & how it will extend my fit time of life. I have noticed a deterioration in myself over the last few years & this will not only stop the deterioration but put me back to where I was ten years ago, I have always been fit & up for it & working like this should maintain my form & improve my shape & fitness no end. I am honestly looking forward to being myself again both inside & out
It is funny almost Hilarious how one crappy job stacking shelves for minimum wage could ave such an effect on a mans life & how he feels about himself. I know people look down on me & my job & still I feel happy & confident about myself & my job.
I honestly feel sorry for the majority of people out there that have such high aims/standards for themselves as they will Never know the happiness & contentment a man like me enjoys.
I have had Everything & I have Lost Everything but now I have easily achievable goals & contentment within myself that is actually obtainable.
I am a simple man with simple needs living a simple life for simple pleasures, I am Happy inside & that reflects outwards with no effort whatsoever

So,
Was on Produce last night & had a young chap called Phil from the Lichfield store working with me & training me up, Basically we pissed it, There was 2 of us & Phil taught me well & we just got our heads down threw a few crates about & before I knew it Phil said **** me we only have 7 dollys left, We started with 22 ;D
Within the first hour I was doing a dolly with 18 crates on it in ten minutes no problems at all. Phil reckons they are well happy with anybody that does 5 an hour & 6 is sweet & the odd mentalist does 7. Well I don't need to tell you that me doing 1 in 10 mins is 6 an hour & that is on my first night doing it. Usually the first night with work rates you can't even imagine making the targets let alone achieve them so me making the 6 an hour target on the first night bods well for the future
I am Honestly Crapping myself about whether I get laid off in 4 weeks or they keep me on, They have layed off so many people & have told a few they have jobs, To me they hav said nowt yet, I keep telling myself this & that but Honestly I am crapping myself.
To be kicked out after all this effort would be a Major kick in my old sacks :(

I should also add that my section manager was there last night. Within 10 mins there was an oppurtunity to speak to him alone in the warehouse. I apologised for my out burst & re-assured him it won't happen again. He just looked at me, Held out his hand & said Lets just put it behind us & move on
The Dude gets Major respect from me for not making a big thing out of it or giving me a lecture & making me feel the **** that I am/was.
He is quite Obviouly a bigger man than me :o

Sounds like you had a great first night  Glad the manager wasn't difficult over the last outburst and now you can stop berating yourself too :p
Even if, possible especially if, the new department is harder I think moving was a good idea. Not only will you be working it single-handed but you're also now trained in 2 areas. More areas you show you're willing to work on and the more experience you get at the different jobs, the more secure your job will be :)
Good move JSB :)

I thought you said he put out his hand...
Keep up the good work JSB! :)

Another really good night, No faults at all, A Zero
The night before we had 1 fault but that was wrong  + ;D We are allowed 3 faults but most sections get around 5 & some times up to 9
Tonight is the real test though as I will be working it alone, I'm not worried though, It'll be hard work but I am very confident of getting it done in time. My hours have moved back to 10pm till 7am as of last night which don't bother me none.
I want to go in tonight & complete it on my own & get no more than 1 fault then I will be happy.
I'll be eating & sleeping as much as I possibly can today :)
Think of me whilst you kick back & relax late this evening or curl up into your nice warm beds as I will be working my nutz off.

I am in that OMG I ache & need a big cuddle off a giant marsh mallow man mode at the mo, Feeling pretty damn weak sort of thing & am hiding from girls under the age of ten just in case they Bully me :o
I'll be ok by tonight.
Fortunetly it's only for 4 nights so already I am half way through my week & only have 2 more nights on before 3 nights off to recover, Easy street really

I need one of me Doris's head rubs but she has abandoned me for some work holiday going away for 5 days thingy, Biatch !!!!
Usually I get her round & lay with my head on her lap whilst she strokes me head, Then I drift of to sleep mumbling weird noises & dribbling everywhere (most attractive I am)
Don't worry for the Doris though as all the time I am asleep she enjoys the Unique privilege & almost unheard of pleasure of using my TV remote control
Well I know I know she shouldn't really have control of the handle bars but as I am alseep I let her pretend she is in control ;D;D;D

Was on my own last night & finished it fine & my manager complimented me & my section highly more than once.
We had a big delivery & I had around 22 dollys totalling around 350 - 400 crates, Because it was big my section manager offered some help but I told him It's not needed & I wanted to do it alone which I did.
I am completly cream crackered now though
Dude.. don't work yourself to the bone :D
I'm sure it's great that you're determined to do your best and do it hard, but you don't want to come across as too elitist or isolationist :)
