It seems our friend is an endangered species... was acceptably racist, now too racist to accept.

I Loved my Gollywog
I used to take him to bed with me & carry him around all day with his long legs dragging along the floor.
I can't remember anybody calling me a Racist either but then as I was sleeping with him & spending every waking moment holding him like a comfort blanket it must have been quite obvious that I loved the Blacks ;D;D;D

I just asked some bloke here (no pun intended there haha) if he found gollywogs offensive. He said, not all and finds the whole thing amusing.
We seem to obsessed by what other people think and not causing offense all the time yet the people making these issues are indeed making it an issue themselves.
Pretty pathetic really.

I remember the tokens on jam jars you had to collect
I have a huge great hessian mat with all the different gollywog badges on - tennis golly, milkman golly, rugby golly etc etc...
GOLLY'S TO LIVE ON!

They are still on Robinsons jam. Instead of saying Golly or Gollywog underneath them, it now says Token. :D
Isn't that worse?

Token black guy?
Yet another thing getting blown out of all proportion. Why do we have to take offence on another's behalf?
It feels like the whole nation has become Victor Meldrew and just whinges about everything.

I had a gollywog when I was little, oh I loved my gollywog. He had blue trousers and he was the aces! Though if I am honest as a child I didn't know he was supposed to be a black person, I just thought he was a 'thing'..... like a dragon or a fairy or something.
Hang on are raggedy ann dolls offensive to ginger haired people too?
I agree, as a kid it was a funny little dude with a funny little name. I didn't associate any racial or offensive connotations.
What they said :) I've got a cuddly Golly somewhere too :D
hough if I am honest as a child I didn't know he was supposed to be a black person, I just thought he was a 'thing'
I take offence on behalf of all black people (even those who don't care, because they should) that you have compared them to a 'thing'.
What about the maid with the fat legs on Tom and Jerry?
As a white person, I find that deeply offensive to black people.

Which is why on some of the DVD releases she has been digitally altered to a white person. :(

YOU ARE F****** JOKING?
Please tell me you are.
Please?
:'(
Brilliant thinking. Is 'whiting up' or replacing a black stereotype more or less racist than the original stereotype? I just don't know any more. Once again, all I saw was a jolly lady outraged at the antics of her pet cat. Now they've completely emphasised what was for me a non-issue. Idiots.

Maybe if we painted all non-white people white, we wouldn't have this problem?
