I got my copy of Mass Effect and GH3 through, and I love the Mass Effect LE box, lovely and shiny. 4pm needs to get here quicker so I can go home and start my birthday weekend in style! :D
Yep, it's very nice. Got mine today, but I really don't like those wider cases. I complained with Gears of War and I will with this too. The whole cardboard CD holder is a little annoying (and cheap). I'm much more a fan of ones like BioShock, Dead Rising or Lost Planet.
Either way, I've started keeping all my games in a CD wallet anyway because I was sick of swapping cases. I currently have 32 games in full retail which is pretty bad. Worse is the fact I've traded LOADS in over the last few months.

I managed to rack up about 5-6hrs of Mass Effect yesterday which wasn't bad going. I'm really trying not to rush through it, it's a very fine balance :o Oh and I love the casing for it :D It is big but it looks like I actually spent money on it rather than other LEs that look a bit tacky.

I love being a bad guy in Mass Effect. During the first 2 hours I punched out an annoying scientist, and threatened 2 smugglers at gun point to give up their weaponry so I could make better use of it. I love it :D

Second playthrough I'll be a bad guy though.
Died a few times which has made a change as I haven't played a half challenging RPG in a while.
I went for he 'Keep of the sand' achievement in HL2 last night... spent quite a while on it but never got it, gutted. I've kept a save back there so I can try again when I can be arsed :)

I was convinced I'd got it when I played through. Sadly it was not to be. I think I only have that achievement and the Lambda caches one left for the main game. Currently playing through Episode 1 again and trying to get the lone bullet achievement. A little tip for anyone going for it; don't just fire your one bullet off indiscriminately at the start, you'll need it. ;)

Has anyone had Mass Effect hang on them while loading a new section?
There's one bit I'm trying to load and it hangs every time and just keeps saying loading even though it never finishes. Most annoyingly is it's doing it across 3 different save files and my last save before that is over an hour ago :angry:
I only reloaded the save because I was trying to be a perfectionist on one part too :(

US, November 28, 2007 - Electronic Arts has updated its Xbox Live Arcade game Boom Boom Rocket with some improvements and new songs. EA says it has bettered the fireworks that players must explode in time with music. It has also added compatibility with guitar and dance mat controllers -- a nice touch since Boom Boom Rocket is a music game. Your controller type of choice will now be listed alongside your score in the leaderboards.
Five new songs have been added, as well:
* Eine Kleine Rochtmusik
* Cannon in D
* Sugar High
* Sting of the Bumble Bee
* Explode to Joy
The new songs will be free until December 16, after which they will be available as a pack for 250 Microsoft Points ($3).

I have done that before but it was a hassle and I'd rather avoid it again if possible. BT are gonna get an earful shortly so we'll see how likely I am to get some sort of net access before christmas :S

If you can't get the net soon enough you could always send the HDD to me in the post and I'll do it for you. Would mean you'd be without it for a couple of days, so depends on how much you want it really :)

XBLA hits is a good idea though, basically a platinum option for arcade games, which makes a lot of sense. There's a video on GSB.

That'll be really useful, having to disconnect from one to connect to another is a right pain in the arse at times.
They've done it to apparently let people access WMP11 and Zune software together, but there are obviously other benefits to the rest of us mortals :D
If the xvid support is decent I might even move most of my streaming to the Linux box. Be interesting to play with it.
I'm now told I'll have broadband next Friday, so a couple of days late but not too bad, especially considering I'm literally working all week, including overnight on Friday :S

I've done it before, but it's an unfortunate start to a long weekend. 9pm Fri to 6am Sat, couple of hours kip then back in 1/2pm Sat (depending on how things are going, couple of other guys will start at 8am anyway), full day Sunday, then probably a normal week to follow. Might try and take a day off but you dont know how things are gonna go!
Anyway, managed to get the xbox online using my phone as GPRS modem. It's slow, but I have the track pack, and Dee is happy :)
Finally finished Half Life 2. I'll agree with Leo when he says that there's a kind of... lack of purpose, when compared to the first one. I enjoyed it though, and will start Episode 1 later today or tomorrow :)
360 froze just as the ending started though. Possible the third time it's ever happened, though never before at such an annoying time.
Just after the time slowed/stopped and that guy started talking in my ear. Said about two words then... locked :S
Only saved a couple of minutes before hand though so it didnt take long to get there again.

Having not played ME I'd vote for COD4 :)
I'd say it depends how much you like the two genres. I'd take Mass Effect over CoD4 but that's because I'm a huge RPG fan.
As long as you have both at some point soon, you can't really go wrong :)

I know what you mean. The first was far superior in that it feels like it's you against the world, and even though it's completely linear it never felt like you were being ushered through, but actually finding your own way. HL2 feels more contrived.

It is just me or would I like to know what I was on the train at the beginning and what I've been doing to be come Gordon the ultimate commando?
I could have forgiven that if I self a sense of mission or purpose on the way through, that bugged me more. Shouldn't moan too much though, I did enjoy the game.

I'm aiming for the same thing myself! How did you find it without bullets?
It was OK apart from a couple of frustrating bits where the crossbow would have been handy - snipers on the roof and stuff (although technically they shouldn't count as they're bolts!). Grenades, rockets and crossbow serve well though, and it would be almost impossible without the grav gun. Mainly Alex takes stuff out with her machine pistol so as long as you can find a corner to sit in you're generally OK. It can be hard finding stuff to throw so I did find myself carrying a radiator or a breeze block around a fair bit! It gets much easier towards the end as there's rocket boxes lying around.
The trickiest achievement by far was the lighting up the zombies with flares one.
The main area where you can do it is practically pitch black so you need your flashlight on all the time, and all the flares are behind mesh fences so you have to get them with the gravity gun. By the time you've notched up a score of about ten, your flashlight is running out, the zombies are starting to build up and the flares become more scarce. Not being able to use your guns is a real handicap at that point. Took me bloody ages!

Sounds fun! So overall you found it harder to get through than Ravenholm with the grav gun? Would make sense though if there's a lack of equipment.

I wouldn't say so, Ravenholm has lots of those screamer zombies which are a real pain without any kind of weapon, especially at the end when you're waiting for the cradle to come across and they come up the drainpipes. At that point I had to leap off the roof and find some stuff to chuck at them. For the first half an hour of Episode 1 you don't even get a weapon other than the gravity gun so it's not that difficult to adapt.
How long did it take you to complete?
When I started playing last night it said I had been playing for about two hours, so no more than three I would say. Although in reality it was about double that thanks to the achievements!

Just a word of warning on the update. I've read (Although not looked for confirmation myself) that if you change your email address for your live account, it screws it up. A patch is being worked on so don't do it until you know it's OK.

turns out it might I just haven't chosen the correct option :o though it doesn't play all the xvid files :( no buck rogers on the 360 :'(
I was wrong :party2: you just need to download the media update again and it'll run no problem. I'm currently watching episode 1 and the xbox is soooooooooooo quiet reading off the DVD
If you are struggling to find it or thick like me you can't access it by selecting the drive like you would a game you have to go to the media blade. Select videos and press X to change source. Select current disc and away you go :)
Aye, I wandered off to have a look, LMF had already done the update so all I had to do was throw some files into the library in WMP11 and enable the sharing and it works an absolute dream! I've removed TVersity completely and it's great :D
Oooh just tried it out, with Duck Tales the Movie of all things :D

I could try dumping all my videos back to the linux box and use ushare, dump tversity and see use WMP - the only downside to this option I can think of is that I'd need to keep logging on to the box when I want to update the library, which isnt great - or just keep using tversity.

I thought the media library constantly updated itself anyway?
When you're logged in. At least that's how it appeared when I looked at it before I found tversity. When I was logged in (and had previously started media player), if I dropped a file/folder into a watched area after a few minutes it would pick it up. If I wasn't logged on then it just didn't do anything.
I like what I have at the minute because it's a complete end to end solution. I have my web based download manager to queue up and monitor all my downloads, and when they're finished, I have scripts to put those files in the right place, which tversity then finds on it's next update - so all I have to worry about it queuing up the downloads.
The speed should be identical with the new tversity, but if it isn't then I'll have to look at media player.
As a side note, the media player scripting API's are few and mostly useless.

All the latest HD movies are usually mkv files not divx. The same for some anime too. I'm not sure why but it seems to be the big thing now for that. A quick scan on one of the large hd sites and all the movies are h264 mkvs. Only porn is divx.

I'm also really confused on it. h264 is the Apple format, but its in an mkv. I guess its like Divx being in an AVI.

MKV is just like AVI in that it's a container format - you can put whatever encdoing you like in there, including DIVX in theory :) MKV is gaining/has gained popularity largely due to the fact its completely open source, where as AVI is a reverse engineered MS format.
Mrs. Feek asked me to look into a dance mat for the 360 for LMF for Christmas and from what I see there's only one available - The Dancing Stage Universe.
Anyone tried/seen it? Is it any good?

Only came out today so I've no idea how good it is I'm afraid. There has been a ton of Dancing Stage stuff on the PS2 though, and they've all apparantly been good, so I see no reason why this won't be.

My daughter had one for the PS2 Years ago. It worked perfectly & she loved it. If they had it sorted way back then i think current gen ones will be Superb.

For the three Half life games I now only have four achievements to get:
- Lambda caches in Half life (easy, as it remembers which ones you've already got even if you start a new game, and you can select the level to play).
- Pinata party (easy as there aren't many, I just wasn't looking at the time).
- Squish all grubs in Ep 2 (tricky as there's a lot).
- Send the garden gnome into space in Ep 2 (nails).
Should have the first one done tonight.

I've taken a break from TOB at the moment because I've become a little hooked on Viva Pinata :o It'll have a limited shelf life I'm sure but at the minute I'm really enjoying it.
Viva Pinata is good fun :D Tempted to buy it again as I didn't get far into it last time.

I've seen a deal in PC World where I can get Viva Pinata, Forza 2, and a wireless controller for £30. Probably worth it even though I've already got Forza 2. Might have to play the Viva Pinata demo first though.
That's what I got, flogged Forza for £20 to a mate, so Viva and a pad for £15 (I paid £35), which I was ok with :)

I'm not sure what to do about Rock Band. I dont want/need another Guitar, I'm undecided about the drum kit, but I do want the mike. Ideally I'd like the game on it's own, with the mike not too long after. That way I could get the drums later on (if I wanted it) while still getting a decent spread of RB's features.

I'll be buying it, all of it. The Strat guitar looks ace, the drums will provide a nice distraction for me, and Lynnie will use the mic. As long as it's not stupidly expensive (my guess is around £150 for the lot) then I'll be pre-ordering it when the shops have it available.

You've got more patience than I have, dont think I'll be arsed with the grubs!
Episode 1 finished, was relieved to see the One Free Bullet achievement unlock, so 100% :) Escorting the citizens without guns was difficult, took a few goes, as did zombie fire lighting!
Good stuff! The flares bit without weapons is bloody difficult.

Same here actually. It happened with PES2008, it was half price within a month of release, which was slightly annoying. The problem is that my impatience always gets the better of me :o

Oh, eeerrr, yeah. Well I won't be about for the next few weeks but bring on the new year and normal service is resumed :D
Booted up the 360 tonight (not to play it, been messing with the network), and at the bottom I was presented with 'Unreadable Disc'. Took it out and my Orange Box CD has a crack in it :| Only little, but you can see where it's warped the data part of the disc a little. Gave it a wipe and put it back in and it started ok.... still might ring Game and see if they'll change it. About the only game this year I bought off the high street ;D

Playing Dead Rising for the first time properly this week, 2nd go tonight, and at lvl 13 now.
Just wondering what is the best and funniest way to kill zombies? Not most efficient but pure comedy wise. Best one i've found is heating up a frying pan til red hot and stick it at their face :D made me chuckle. And coat hanger in their mouth so they can't bite and then keep wacking them with another coat hanger and blood goes everywhere !
If you can find the industrial drill in the North mall (it's on the scaffolding I think), the first zombie gets stuck on it and spins round, limbs flying everywhere, then you can go after the others with him stuck on it. Nice!
As you get better levels you get some good moves, like being able to pick zombies up by their feet and swing them round into the others. My favourite though is probably the shove, where you grab the zombie and push him, and he goes stumbling and flailing off until he crashes into a wall. Any other zombies in his way get knocked down too.

My favourite way of killing them is a shower head to their forehead, and watching as blood gushes out from it. I also love reaching inside their stomachs and pulling their insides out ;D
I really fancy playing it again now, only got 4 achievements left so may try and polish them off over Christmas if I've got the patience to try for them. :)

The 360 will just scale the video to whatever your output resolution is. Well, it upscales the 720p stuff to fill my screen anyway :p 1024x768 isn't widescreen though so you cant really compare them to 720/1080p, as they translate to widescreen resolutions (1280x720 and 1920x1080 respectively). Not sure if it'll letterbox or chop the sides off - just have to suck it and see I guess.

Just exploring and getting used to it the first time is definitely the best thing to do. You really start enjoying it when you hit level 20 or so and you can carry more and do more to the enemies. I've already completed it 3 times and it's hugely fun, and one of the most original games in recent years.

Mine's been pretty good on the new DSL line. I keep being surprised at how quick the 'download completed' notification keeps popping up! I do wish they'd just put a Kbps figure on the active downloads page.
Works out as about 80p for 300 doesn't it? Seems pretty good compared to most rental services considering I would have XBL and a broadband connection regardless. Nice bonus :)

I was chatting to a guy in the pub after work today who's been doing game reviewing for Sony and Nintendo for years, and he's good friends with the Rockstar guys in Leeds. He told he he's played some GTA4 with them, and it's absolutely awesome. I wanted to hit him for playing the game so early, but it's nice to know it's coming along so well :)

Absolute bargain that. Cheaper than a Wii even solus, two wireless pads and two retail decent games and 5 pretty decent XBLA ones. Anyone at that price point probably wouldn't be too bothered about not having HD cables, and at a later date you could get a 20GB hard drive off ebay if you wanted.

Indeed they are, use the power cables in the walls to shunt data down :) These ones are theoretical 200Mbps but I dont expect anywhere near that. Even if it's ~80Mbps though, should still be plenty for media streaming and I dont believe they're known for high latency. Gonna try them out in the week and do some tests with the laptop on the end before the 360 :)

Should be better for you as you've got better cabling than our house though I would be interested to try it.
Put the powerline adapters in today. Working fine but the pings have gone up, and seem to spike a little from time to time. Need to get online and see if it actually translates to any real lag though. I dont do much online play so as long as it isn't consistently horrific it may well stay. It's certainly fine for everything else (marketplace downloading, laptop docking and BT Vision on demand).

Putting the black sexyness aside, practically the Elite has the 120GB hard drive, and a HDMI cable over the arcade. The arcade has the 5 arcade games and also a HDMI port (all new 360's do - the motherboard under the hood is the same across all 3 now).

Got an arcade now. It's so far a bit quieter than the old 360, and the 256mb memory card might come in handy at some point. The front feels a bit plasticky compared to my old one though. :( Also doesn't seem to auto connect to XBL and it takes ages to sign in but that's probably a setting I'll find in the morning when I'm not knackered and been out all night :p
HDMI port will hopefully be useful in the future. With the arcade games, I already own 3 but I guess Luxor and Feeding Frenzy is a bonus.
One thing I thought of, can I still do that 10 free arcade games thing with someone? Or has that run out now?

well finally managed to download the film but it took ages and ages to sign-in.
I think the options to sign automatically you press the guide button, press A on your gamertag and then it's one of the lower options.
EDIT: has anyone come across videos which play on the xbox with sound but no video?

When I wasn't able to sleep and tried to get it at half two yesterday morning it took about 15 minutes to sign into Xbox Live.
When I tried yesterday just before posting, it went in in seconds - The post on the xbox forums saying the price had been sorted had been posted just two minutes before so I must have got in quickly. I've not checked to see if it's downloaded yet but I'd hope that it has by now.

3 games and a chatpad for £85, not bad going :)
They may seem like odd choices of games but I've had my eye on them all really. I know CoD3 is meant to be nowhere near as good as the others but I really love the series so I'm sure it'll be fun if I keep open minded.

I've currently got to play The Golden Compass, Assassin's Creed (which all I've done is check it works since Christmas), Viva Pinata: Party Animals, GH3, CoD3 and Tetris Evolution. Plus Feeding Frenzy 2 and Luxor 2 which look fun, and finish off Bladestorm. And I've still got Blue Dragon and Condemned to play from my birthday :o
I'm going to be pretty skint till February though as I'm hardly getting paid in January so I suppose at least I've stockpiled ready :D

One thing I wanted to ask is when watching family guy last night the xbox kept playing the video files in 4:3 format so I had to keep changing the view to stretch so it filled the screen. Is there anyway to set it to do that automatically?
Not that I've found. I get the same with my family guy downloads (and on the dvd's too, guess they're made in 4:3) and find it looks pants when stretched so I tend to leave it :o
Though on a random note I fixed the stretching on my vision box last night. Found a menu I hadn't before and there was a stretch option in there.
