What is this dynamic range thing you speak of Drz? Will it mask the fan noise?
Put simply, the amp makes quiet sounds louder and loud sounds quieter so they fit into a smaller bracket of "volume", if that makes sense.
My 360 died yesterday afternoon with the red ring of death. It's out of warranty but I'm going to try and blag it with Microsoft anyway.
This goes brilliantly with the fooked Wii and the Macbook HD that went pop.
It can't be out of warranty. The 3RROD has a 3 year warranty. You won't need to blag it :)
Unless you've been tampering with it, then you might have a problem!

Worst case you can always do a Tesco trick if you aren't arsed with the morality of screwing them for cash monies. Buy new one, box old one in new box, take it back for refund.
Tell me about it! The Macbook HD died one day, the Wii the next then 4 days later the 360. Gutted!

Funnily enough I was planning on tampering with it at some point but it is currently unmolested. I shall give MS a call and see what they have to say :)
Get it repaired then consider chipping it :) Pain waiting though so the Tesco method might be worth a go.
Or go for my method, buy a replacement the day it goes wrong then sell the repaired one on ebay. :D

Gotcha :) that makes sense. Hopefully when we get our setup it'll be loud enough to mask the noise, just wish there was some way of making the fans spin slower when they aren't needed. Being honest I don't understand why I need all the noise when watching a DVD or a video.
It bugs me when you're doing background downloading or controller charging when you switch the console off. It's like, you're only powering the network card and hard drive, which has no cooling anyway, or just the USB ports - why are your fans running damn it!

Right I've just checked what you suggested and when playing a DVD the fans do spin down but when playing a movie they rotate at the same rpm :( stupid thing!
Anyone not finished Halo 3 on legendary? Wanna get a 4 player team together to hit the co-op if anyone fancies :)

I ran through it as a rental from Lovefilm but it's in the sale at Blockbuster at the moment for a tenner, so figured I'd grab it for that, still decent trade in and I quite enjoyed the multiplayer :)

Might be up for some Halo 3 co-op too. I've moved my 360 from downstairs where it had a lovely 32'' hdtv and a 5.1 system to my room with its 15'' lcd display and 2.1 system. Not a bad selection :) Hope the multiplayer isn't as laggy as Doom's though.
Bit uninspiring but they'll do. OXM says it'll be out in September.
Those achievements suck. Can't have been that hard to have multikill ones, for example, with pipe bombs/RPG, or a number of kills whilst airborne with the jetpack.

It finished downloading but I'm currently re-arranging the lounge so when that is done I'll give the demo a blast.
Played through it. Its pretty good. Looks great and some nice lightsaber actions. But I can't help feel like its one basic premise for the whole game. I guess FPS's are the same really. Run in, shoot baddies, push switch. Still, I'm replaying it and I'm definitely getting it. Oh and taking down a walker is a real bitch because the button combos are too quick.

I know exactly what you mean Pete it took me 4 attempts to actually kill the damn thing. All in all a great demo and certainly a game I plan on playing, whether I'll start my rental again to play it or buy it I don't know, but it certainly looks promising.
Part of the problem is that you can keep on attacking it, but then accidently stand in the wrong place and it kicks off the scripted sequence. You have to hit x, a, x in a matter of seconds. Theres just no time to respond. That happens too often and distracts from trying to kill it. Also its annoying you can't force push it off a ledge, despite you can everything else and the fact that it should fall off. Its annoying that they go to such lengths to put physics in and then say "Oh well you can push this guy off but not a giant machine that would fall over if a child sneezed next to it."

I kept falling off the edges after stringing a series of attacks together.

I really liked that demo, and found the walker quite easy to kill. I guess my experience on God of War 1 and 2 gave me plenty of practise for the button sequence as I did it first time no bother. Great fun just picking people up and seeing how far I can throw them. This one is definitely on the "must rent or buy" list.
Bah meant to leave the demo downloading after CoD4 :o I'll have a play tomorrow, it looks good :D

I was the same Jen, didn't really give a hoot about the story but soldiered on.
Soul Callibur 4 demo is out. Its such a tease. You play a few fights then you get to face off against Yoda. It loads the level. They do their speeches. Yoda stands up, lightsaber turns on and the demo ends. So so annoying.

Played Force Unleashed last night and really enjoed it. Presumably one of the options to upgrade will be the ability to rebound laser shots, because I couldn't find a way to do it, and only one in about twenty randomly ricocheted into a stormtrooper. I also took the walker down first go, but not before I'd already been knocked off the ledge twice by laser fire. Was quite annoying trying to pick things up to throw at it only to get hit by an onslaught of laser and drop it again, and again. Also I agree it doesn't really make sense that you can force push through steel doors and chuck entire Tie Fighters about, but can't knock a walker over. Hopefully the upgrades will add more to the game, but I'll definitely be getting it.

Did blocking not rebound the shots at storm troopers? I must have been lucky I took a couple out with I had a crack ;D
I tried it but I literally only hit a couple in the whole demo. I'm sure in games like Jedi Academy you almost always sent the bolts back in the direction they came, so the only way the enemies didn't get hit was if they physically moved after/whilst shooting.
If you hold block you can deflect them. Occasionally you can deflect them with your hand, but thats just the odd one. It doesn't seem as fun as Jedi Knight where you can angle yourself to fire them back.

Maybe that comes later on in the game.
Soul Calibre 4 is quite fun though pretty easy in story mode. Think it's a total of 6 stages to finish story mode, some of the stages are against multiple enemies (not at same time) but still pretty easy.
Most of the achievements are to be had in arcade mode and climbing the tower mode. You do get 1 achievement by watching the intro movie all the way through :)
Oh and you get Yoda as a starting character. And can unlock the Apprentice from Force Unleashed by finishing Arcade mode with Yoda.

You can case mod, and fit silent pc fans if you wish.

Pretty decent, it's easily a 600 point game with a little bit of practise, and with a bit more practise, and perhaps somewhere to whore with online, you could get the full 1000. :)

Only one that's definitely on my hit list is Gears - though only if the campaign is longer than Gears 1, and Horde (and any other co-op modes) make the grade. It's all about value for money.
I'll also be getting the new Scene It (been used all year, so I figure that's a safe buy), and possibly Left 4 Dead. If enough people on my friends list get it I think it could be a real good buy - there's something really appealing about tackling hordes of zombies with your mates.
[edit]And probably a couple of arcade games between now and then for good measure.

Around 7/8 o'clock really. You have to start and finish a level in one sitting for it to count, which isn't too bad for the earlier levels, but for the later ones we might have to put some bigger chunks of time aside - depends how good we are really, or not as might be the case :D
Should be about :) Might not manage many levels though, not sure yet really. I'm very organised.......honest :p

From what I've read and watched it seemed that they gave us all the force powers at once so we had a taste of what you can actually do. I didn't rely on force grip but force push was an awesome laugh :D

Bit of both really. I love that type of game now I've figured them out properly. But it's nice to get points too :D Been quite lucky too as Bladestorm I had free to review, Dynasty Warriors 6 I won, and Dynasty Warriors 5 only cost me £5 :D Although Samurai Warriors 2: Legends cost me £10.

DW5 > DW6 > Samurai Warriors 2. Not played the others but from what I know, SW2:L would be below DW6, and Bladestorm just above it. DW5 is easily the best, so many more characters.
Bladestorm's still my favourite :D But that's mainly down to the story. Not played regular Samurai Warriors 2 (although looks like Lovefilm have just sent me it), but SW2:L feels near identical to DW5 to me so I can't really tell much difference besides a couple of options.
Not touched DW6 much yet.
GOW2 achievements partially leaked (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/08/28/gears-2-achievements-partially-leaked-revealed-tomorrow/). Much more single player and more reasonable multiplayer so far, I like.
Looks a bit more interesting than GoW1 too :) I much prefer a leaning towards single player. I don't play enough multiplayer to bother with most multiplayer achievements.

Just been watching videos from Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway and have to say that looks very good.
Just been playing Forza 2 for the past hour or so and I'm very impressed. Yeah I know I'm a bit late to it but generally I'm a bit unsure of racing sims as I'm usually terrible at them :o But this one seems to have a nice learning curve.
I do have a bit of an advantage in that Nokkon's sent me a load of cars to get me started but I haven't found it too hard yet. :) Nice to have so many options........and so many cars :D I used to love the original Gran Turismos on the PS1 and this reminds me of them.
Well worth the £10 I paid for the Collector's Edition :)

You may have noticed me (VeryVoid) using my sexbox lately & Forza2 is responsible & like you it is the Perfect Learning curve that has drawn me in. I've Never played a game that has such a brilliant & well judged learning curve in all my years.
Before last week the most Achievement points I had out of one game was from playing through COD4 & getting around 330, To date I've had around 450 points from Forza2 & all in the last week. I've levelled myself up to around 46 & have around 2 & a half Mill to spend & a Shed load of cars all modded tweaked & painted :cool:
Going through the single player has brought me on Perfectly & I like being able to race my friends times even when they are not online by checking the times they set for race series.
This all started when an old online mate I used to play Original COD with bought Forza2 then phoned my house phone to nag me on for a game. Since then I've been flat out racing modding tweaking painting & single player playing. Loving it & to finally get into my sexbox properly is Great.
I'll send you a decent motor later when I go online :cool:

Ooh, this might be a 1000-pointer for me! There's very few games I get all the achievements on but they tend to be ones that require a lot of perseverence but where the gameplay is good enough that I don't mind constantly having to redo levels. The Tomb Raider games for example.

I've been playing Too Human for a good part of the afternoon, and it's very good. Plenty of action and a good variety of weapons to upgrade to. Nice control scheme as well, using the right stick for melee attacks and saving the triggers for ranged gun attacks.

I remember that got hard on normal let alone veteran! Really have to complete it on veteran once you're done with it. Great experience, bloody hard at times :D

I'm actually really enjoying Halo multiplayer atm. When playing free for all I just leave the headset off to ignore the kids, and the past couple of team games I've had actually managed to play, win, and party up with some teams of brits - very enjoyable.
Got the MVP achievement last night which pleased me (best k:d ratio of all players on all teams).
I've only played Halo 3 multiplayer once I think and it was a really small game for some reason. Seemed ok but couldn't match CoD4 for me so I didn't really go back to it. Hardly touched any multiplayer games lately though :o

After completing COD2 I've gone back to GTA and am really enjoying it. One of my most proud moments was landing the chopper outside the safe house so I now have aerial transport whenever I leave my appartment ;D

With Star Ocean IV and Tales of Vesperia due next year, and Final Fantasy on its way to the 360, this needed to be something quite special to make its mark in a genre not known for its deviations from formula. Yet at its best Infinite Undiscovery is just another standard action JRPG following a strictly linear route through the same predictable story about another reluctant young hero overthrowing yet another evil empire. In its worst moments, it's an unwieldy collision of ill-conceived ideas and sloppy technical implementation that will test the patience of even the most hardened player. Such flaws are really only worth tolerating if you're so devoted to the JRPG genre that you'd settle for mediocrity rather than wait for the good stuff.

It's not bad, but a bit repetative. There's not a whole lot of variety in the levels or the enemies, and there aren't too many different types of weapons either (3 melee types, 3 ranged types), though there are plenty of different weapons within each group. The control scheme is nice but takes a little getting used to (right stick is used for melee attacks in various directions). It's also fairly short - currently 10 hours in and 3 of the 4 levels completed.
There's a demo available on XBL for it, and I found it to be pretty representative of the final game. :)

Think I'll wait for a rental from what you've said, don't want to pay for a game I get bored of or finish too quickly! But I'll check out the demo.

The demo left me feeling what Davey's found - didn't feel like it had any depth, and would get boring. I may grab it if I see it cheap.
I felt the same to a lesser extend with the Force Unleashed demo, I felt I'd get bored of it. The saving grace there could be the Force - if there's lots of different fun things to use, then it may sway me.
Yeah that seems like a rental to me too or a cheap purchase.

I'll be getting rid of Too Human when Force Unleashed comes out, as it should still have a high trade in value so it won't cost much to get TFU. That should be fun if the level design is varied and the powers extend more than in the demo.

Dont just buy it for our sake though :) It's a pretty good game, there's more meat to the story than there was in 2. I completed it before me and Jen started out on Legendary so I had time to take it in, not sure Jen's paying much attention as we're either getting killed or messing about :D
Theres a great video on the marketplace which fills you in on all the back story if you've not played any before. Know thy enemy and all that :)

Well this is probably going to get me shouted at but I have NEVER played a Halo game ;D So will I miss much of the story if I play 3 first?
See my edit. The video was useful for me because I never played the first Halo, and wasn't entirely sure why everyone was fighting in Halo 2 ;D
They've also got longer/full versions of a lot of the marketing video's, the diorama one is excellent - as is the making of it. I like that kind of stuff though, I've got all the extended LOTR DVD's and enjoy all the behind the scenes gumph there :)

Proper getting into my xbox & Forza2 :cool: Got myself some points so got the Track & car packs & a Forza2 theme. I Love this game.
I'm having a blast on Live & meeting some real sound gamers, Some Yank dude I roomed with was chatting for about ten minutes & then said I'll send you a couple of cars, He sends me over two great cars ready tweaked & ready tuned, About 400 grands worth, I've been really impressed at the attitude of the gamers & the quality of the races we are having :cool:
I'm not paying attention to Halo 3's story, I'm just blasting stuff :D
I've played all of the first one and some of the second one but tbh I hardly remember the story so no big deal I don't think :)

I played COD4 single player through & ventured online a few times, Unfortunetly I had COD4 on PC before the xbox so it killed it for me. I've got GRAW 1 & 2 to play through at some time & I've messed around on R6V2, Of course I struggle but with my recent addiction to Forza2 the whole xbox controller experience is finally turning a corner, I feel ready for the next step ;D
Grab the demo of Gears of War and have a play with that if you struggle - you might find a third person shooter a good middle ground until you can master the sticks :)
[edit]At least I think there's a Gears Demo.. not 100% sure now I think about it :S

A random Forza 2 story: I added somebody on OcUK's 9 year old brother so I could send him some spare cars over, so he messaged me to thank me and he's politer than most adults I know :D He sent a couple of voice messages and the last one just now was an apology that he sounds like he's a girl but that he's not. I've only gone & got myself a 2nd hand Flatty haven't I :cool:
It's a 19inch with a built DVD player & speakers, make is a Cello which I think is Woolworths own brand, Nowt special to you rich boys but to me it is Superb. I had my HD lead already & fired it up for a quick look see half hour ago, Damn I cannot believe the difference it is truely Superb, Crystal clear & sharp as a knife. It came straight out the blue, I went round a real old time mate of mines this morning as I get on Great with All his family & needed a little love. Whilst chatting, Monitors came up & he said he had this one upstairs doing nowt lets have a deal,His Missus also brought down a Brand new never been used 160GB HD. After a chat we decided on the price of 2 driving lessons for his daughter for the lot totalling 40 kin Quid :shocked: :cool:
I think there was a little love spread over due to recent events which is great as I have to admit to needing any love I can get at the mo.
With the improvement of visuals I'll be stuck to my xbox for the next few days that's for sure.
It has to be said, I am Stunned at the improvement going HD, I've heard it & even seen & played on it but sitting in your own front room switching over from one to the other is Staggering. I am one happy chappy.

Heh, sounds excellent, looking forward to it more now. Can't remember if it's released before or after my birthday in November, but I'll consider getting it if I've got any money left over from my other eseential purchases (Fable 2, GoW 2).
There's a lot coming in November, and it makes me wonder when we'll see the new dash. The techie in me says that you'd want it deployed and used in anger before November, because you dont want bugs in the dash affecting the big sellers (notably Gears -the new party system should be a great accessory to it). On the other hand, the causal game lineup (Scene It et al), cheap arcade console and a more consumer friendly interface is a great marketing bundle to throw at Joe public, so they could use it as a buzz generator when these games hit the shelves.

In reality, there were 2 bastard online achievements I thought I'd be left with after finishing all the campaign ones - but I persisted and worked on one tonight and unlocked it with my last round in my last game :D Double Kill with a single Spartan Laser shot in ranked free for all :) Other one is Overkill - 4 kills within 4 seconds of each other. That one will take some luck but if I can bag that the rest are a matter of time really.

Re Infinite Undiscovery: Who on earth thought 'let's start out in a fairly dull prison, then make the first main area a pitch black forest'?!

I'll still be getting this I think, by trading something in for it. I can put up with linear level design if the gameplay is fun enough, and I enjoyed the demo enough to suggest I will.
I played the demo about 4 times but I can see the QTE's being annoying. I don't think I can afford it or have enough games to trade in really. 7/10 just isn't strong enough a score to justify more debt :) I'll get it in a few months when its £20.

Oh I don't doubt it will be good but I'm getting to the stage now where the games have to be very good for me to buy them. I'm just thinking I'll put the other £25 towards Fable 2 or Gears 2 and just spend a tenner renting it :)
Definite rental for me :) I actually feel slightly swamped with games at the moment so I've hardly rented anything through Lovefilm lately, just films.
It just doesn't seem to have enough longevity to be worth a purchase for me.

Just read this (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/three-hours-with-the-finished-fable-2/) Fable 2 preview and it sounds excellent, can't wait.
