WTF at random people in trucks shooting at me in DR? ;D

I was thinking about when I take the 360 back to Swansea next week (Yes I finally told them and of course they were fine with it).
If the 360's not hooked up to the net, does it still store achievements in some way so that they go through once online? Probably a really stupid question but I wanted to check.
Want to hook it up to the family TV to show my parents some games rather than have to show them on my monitor in my room. But not sure if I really want to stretch network cable across the house.

Get them trapped against a tree as they try to run you over. Kill gunner, kill driver, kill passenger, grab machine gun from the back of the jeep, shoot everything in sight, job's a good 'un :D

I play mine on the 17" TFT. Got a 21" CRT but it just doesn't look as good on there as it does on the TFT.
Big TV will be for some future ocassion where I actually have an income ;D

How much could I get for an xbox with 3 controllers (1s, 1 large, one unofficial), remote control, live headset and a coupla games? (splinter cell, splinter cell pandora tomorrow, bad boys II, enter the matrix, lego starwars, Topspin & 10+ demo disks) standard xbox, but in a crystal box I found.

AND a PS2 with 1 controller, DVD remote, mem card and games (monsters inc, Donald duck, GTA III, GTA Vice city, baldurs gate DA, Rocky)
Trade in price at Gamestation would be between £100-150 I reckon. You probably wouldn't get more from the Bay, though you could always put them up with reserve prices and see if anyone would be willing to pay for it. The problem is that both consoles can be had pretty cheap second hand so unless you have a big pile of games you won't get too much for them.

I'd say take it straight in to be honest don't bother with the bay. Infact didn't Mohinder trade his xbox or something in to get his 360?

You almost have to play with the intention of getting used to the save system before it becomes second nature. It's like a checklist - check position (mid-scoop? mid-rescue?), check health, check weapons, check time till next case etc. You'll get used to it. Still gay that you can only have 1 save mind.

Finished overtime mode last night (\o/), so time to go back and have another stab at some of the scoops I missed and maybe get an achievement or two along the way.

there were rumours of a price drop but I haven't seen anything. I don't think the PS3 is out till March here anyway. I think it's a little late now to drop the price as the parents have already been buying the 360s

so not worth waiting? we only have a 10 year old CRT 20" odd TV and wont have a nice new tele to do xbox 360 justice for a few months yet at least...

They seem to have come down in price a bit just in the time since I bought one in October.

ok and say a pessimistic fiver a game you are looking at £60 for the games. do those prices include the extra controllers and remotes?

you are looking at £145 but you will probably get more for the games. You could always get a core which would be cheaper :)

I said does that include the DVD remotes and stuff and he said, they are next to nothing as they sell them for like £2...

not sure the games would fetch a fiver each.. they are quite old...
And I like the sound of the "normal" one with wireless pad and HDD... convince me otherwise.

ah right my bad, I just saw you'd said consoles alone.

personally i think the premium is the only way to go. the wireless controller is excellent and having the HD is a great thing. Let us know what you decide.

With the cost of a core and hard drive you're pretty much in premium territory anyway, it's definitely more cost effective to go down that route if you can.

Hee hee hee... Got £20 in "capital bonds" redeemable in loads of stores (but not gamestation :() and £36 in WHSmith vouchers... trying to work out a way to get a 360 for as little as possible. Its a shame WHSmith dont seem to sell 360 HDDs as it would mean I could mimic a premium package for very little expense...

There's plenty of others I could recommend, but I reckon if you get those 5 they'll keep you busy for quite some time :)

Manhunt (disturbing and absolutely brutal, but I couldn't put it down till I finished it)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II (play them in order)

I've not played most of these over BC so I don't know if any of them run slowly or not (I do remember reports of NG, Fable and Star Wars all being a little slow), but they're the games I'd recommend the most.

You can always use fast travel to get to where you need to go (assuming you've been there before). When you get a horse it makes travel in the open so much better, and you find a lot of dungeons/mines/castles if you're on horseback as well :)

Heh I had a panic last night.
Was hooking up my 360 to my parents's pc to show my Dad some of the games. Plugged everything in and turned it on, red circle of doom :eek: Thought 'aaaaargh' while my Dad's still asking me loads of questions.
Then realised one cable wasn't plugged in completely so thought I'd try it, worked.....phew.
Was worried I'd killed it on my drive to Swansea.

Really? I gotta be honest here and say I tried NG and just couldn't hack it. I'm clearly not the man I should be :D So I got NGB and loved it, even if I did need the help of a girl ;) Didn't realise there was that big a difference. I thought it was just NG + easier mode + downloads.

With Ninja Gaiden you get the standard game with three difficulty levels (normal, hard, very hard), plus the ability to download both Hurricane Packs which are implemented differently to NGB (there is a block move called Intercept on the Ninja Gaiden Hurricane Packs which isn't there on NGB for example).

With NGB you get the updated enemies from the start, plus the extra weapons (Lunar, Smoke Bomb), and the large jump in difficulty in the harder levels (fighting some of the new enemies without Intercept is very difficult indeed!). The Hurricane Packs are there to an extent, but harder as well without the Intercept (I find Hurricane Pack 1 on NG to be stupidly easy now).

I can confirm that these two do run very slow at times, normally during combat, which spoiled both games for me. This is the only reason I've kept my original Xbox, just for these games.

Just a Live Arcade suggestion. Cloning Clyde is a good fun, old fashioned ish platformer with puzzle elements. Really enjoying it at the moment :D

When my xbox was DOA I registered a live account on xbox.com so I could ask some questions on the forums. When I then recovered that account on the xbox I was never offered the free trial. I had to register a new live account through the xbox for it to do that.

Correct, the original Xbox games don't have achievements on them. If you want to be a score whore and beat Daz and Haly for score really quickly I can recommend a few games ;)

You're missing out some extras (missions, armour, weapons, spells), but the overall game is not that different. I loved Fable so I'm sure you won't notice any real difference. :)

If you want some easy points, get your hands on NBA2K6 or NHL2K6, as you can get the 1000 points in both games in around 30 mins as they're simple to get. King Kong is another easy one as you get the points for finishing the game (the game itself is not great, but you can use cheat codes to make yourself invincible and make it more bearable). Fight Night Round 3 is also easy to get the 1000, as you get 100 points for winning each "special" fight, and if you lose it you can simply switch off the console before it autosaves and then load it up for another go :) 4000 very easy points there :)

Edit: If anyone wants a challenging 1000 points, I recommend Dead Rising. Fantastic game but some really challenging achievements that I'll be trying to get over the Christmas break :)

The Saint is top of that list imo. I reckon there are some scoops which will only appear or be solvable if you're following the case files as well, so you basically have to be an uber god and never miss a trick.

I read somewhere that it's not actually possible to save everyone though in one play, no matter what you do.

The Saint is do-able, you just have to do the case files up to a certain point (as some survivors are story related), then ignore the story from part way through and just get the survivors.

The hardest ones will be the 5 and 7 day survivor achievements. It will be very hard for 5 reasons....

1) You can run into Psychopaths anywhere, and have to deal with zombies at the same time

2) Your health decreases over time, so you always need food to top it up

3) Food doesn't respawn

4) There's not enough food to last for 7 days

5) You can't save the game anywhere

You can get food by killing the psychopaths, and the lack of food means you have to actively go out and seek them, while killing them in the most efficient way possible, while trying to deal with the zombies at the same time. The lack of a save system means that you have to play for 14 hours straight to last for 7 days. It's the achievement I'll aim to get last, as it's the one which could see me kill something if I last 6 1/2 days then die.

Just your health, not your level (unless I've missed that somewhere). From what I remember, I think it takes something like 12 minutes for a full health level 50 character to die from the health reduction, so you need to keep moving and finding food.

My plan of attack on it is to do every other achievement first, but primarily the Zombie Genocider (killed 53,594 zombies in one game) as that unlocks the Real Mega Blaster, the most powerful gun in the game which can take down psychopaths in one or two shots. When I have that, I'll go straight into the game and get the 3 books which increase the amount of health you get from food (meaning I'll need to eat less). From there it's simply a matter of trying to survive for 14 hours straight. I swear if I die after 13 hours or something I'll snap the DVD in half :/

There is one in the fountain in Al Fresca Plaza and one on the blue overhang in Paradise Plaza past the giant bear. The 2nd one is not easy to get to as you'll need to go partway up the stairs (the first set you come to) and jump onto the overhang from halfway up.

Woot, got the Zombie Genocider achievement last night and finished the game, so I now have the Real Mega Buster gun, which kicks serious ass. It can kill Carlito (Food Court version) in a single hit, though others take a few more.

Been reading up on Infinity mode as well, I reckon I have a real shot of doing it if I keep my concentration up while playing it. Several other achievements to go first, but hopefully I'll have it done before I go back to work on the 8th Jan :)

Edit: I did almost blow the achievement. I restarted it last night after saving it on 10,000 kills, and was happily going through to about 43,000 when I realised I was really low on health, so decided to nip into the Meat Processing Plant to grab the 3 cartons of milk in there. However, because I'd used up my weaponry I had no easy way of room clearing without getting hit, so they caught me several times taking me down to 1(!) bar of health. I managed to workm my way through, grabbed a carton of milk, and drank it a split second before a zombie hit me and knocked off a bar of energy. I then managed to grab a weapon and clean house and get the other 2 cartons, but it was dangerously close!

I ended up impulse buying King Kong, not planning on keeping it, just want to play through it.

He text'd me when we were in Swansea saying he'd go those two and last night said "what do you want for your birthday?" I was like erm I already have them, but was told no those were Christmas presents :D

The buttons are the same, except that the XBOX black and white buttons have been replaced by two more shoulder buttons - Play station style. So vast majority of controls will be the same...

Swansea seems to be out of Gears of War :( I traded in some games so got £13 credit at Gamestation and they said they'd give me a call once they get it back in stock so fingers crossed it's soon. Guessing it'll be the new year though.

one question about the profile on your xbox and your live one. Can you get it to load your live one automatically. I ended up playing for a few hours, saved my progresses but when I turned it on the following day it was all gone to repeated it all again, then found my original save :(

It's all Trueskill ranks. 4 of them, 10, 20, 40 and 80 points respectively. First couple should be do able. Then 2 10 pointers for each of the co-op levels (which dont seem insurmountable on their hardest difficulty, from what me and Jen gathered).

Just need to find out if we can start proper ranked matches between us :)

The best thing you can do to pick a team and stick with it for a while so you learn the team inside out. That way you can always pick that team online and know that you are fully aware of what the team can do. The usual choices online are Barca, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Brazil. I reckon about 90% of my matches have been played against those 4 teams.

Reading that forum it seems you can do private party ranked matches. I get the impression we'd need a much bigger group to get all the way to Kingpin (and a lot of time), but I reckon we should be able to get some of the achievements done between the 4 of us :) (the first 2 ranks, 10 matches in a row, kill the pimp 50 times maybe. some of the longer ones might get tedious though :D).

Got to be worth a try :D

Well I tried Gears last night and even though there were black bars on the screen and things looked a little squashed I was please with the quality of the picture, but now to me the quality of the image has been degraded.

Have you changed the resolution of the 360 in the Settings in the console menus? If you haven't then it won't look so good when you move to a VGA display.

yeah I did, I set it to 1024x768 which is all the monitor at home can do, I'll borrow a monitor from work tonight and see what it looks like.

When I went to Mexico at Christmas, my girlfriend told me to "have fun" this term since I did really well last term.

So I've bought a pwetty blue 26" Samsung LCD TV complete with Xbox 360 with GOW, Tony Hawk, Ghost Recon and one other one I can't remember :D

On the hunt for a Wii now! :p

Age old question guys - Component vs VGA. My TV only has one component in (currently the 360), but we have a component cable for the Wii so I'd like to use it if poss, which is making me consider a VGA cable for the 360.

Would I be shooting myself in the foot or will it be ok? Resolution is 1366x768.

Well I got a VGA cable of the bay for £7 and use it on a 15" monitor which is nothing compared to your screen but yes I think it'll look good :)

I found VGA to give a better pic than component, hence why I offloaded my 360 component cable onto some random metro I bumped into one evening :)

The 360 won't output 1366/768, the closest you'll get is 1360x768 but 6 pixels isn't worth worrying about.

I'd agree. Running VGA at close to native resolution will defeat anything except DVI/HDMI.

It might not be able to run at the native res that the TFT would like, but it still looks lovely :D No way am I going back to my crappy SDTV.

I'm using a non-official VGA cable. Not noticed any problems but I have heard it affects the colour slightly. But I still think it looks decent.

Unofficial here, do you want some photos taken so you can compare?? It's not the highest res monitor but might help. Infact you could see if Jen can do the same and you can compare WS and non-WS examples :)
