Yum yum! Why can't chippys use dripping any more? Veg oil is so bland :(
because they want to appeal to the vegetarians out there....and they won't eat chips if they are fried in dripping.
Not just vegetarians I imagine.

What are vegetarians doing in a chip shop in the first place? They sell deep fried dead stuff and chips

they can still eat chips last time I looked
Are the chips fried separately or in the same tank as the savaloys and fish? Never even thought to look!
the last time I looked potatoes weren't ever alive
If I have nightmares about zombie potatoes coming to get me, I'm going to blame you :p

Exactly :) I like chips with flavour, bring out the dripping :)
Don't forget dripping is bad and unhealthy..
if you want healthy food don't get takeaway, when you do get takeaway I want tasty stuff. Not flavourless oil fried chips.
There must be some chippys that still do it and probably make outstanding money by saying they use drippings. there still a huge demand for it, with no supply.

Someone should trademark that for later use.
"Deep fried dead stuff".....I'd buy a couple of boxes of that.
Leon, an ex-chip shop employee says - There's no ****ing way you could separate everything. Most chippies fry the meat and chips in the same oil but at different times (don't want sausage-flavoured chips). The reason they switched to veg oil is because it's cleaner, healthier, cheaper, easier to change/clean. Health and safety also hate dripping, presumably because it's such a sod to clean.
You'd need a range the length of a bowling lane if you wanted to fry everything seperately.
Smae oil for most stuff but cooked at different times, and scraped in between cookings. Most chip shops will have a small fryer to do bits and bobs in when the main ranges are in use. We used to sell veggie burgers but told people it all gets cooked in the same oil, they didn't usually care.
Those chips have almost three times as much fat as Home Fries do! :O

And probably taste ten times as nice.
