View Full Version : SORN - Fined FFS :/

Had letter through the post this morning saying that my bike wasn't declared as SORN. Fair enough, it wasn't. I received no reminder through the post about my bike (didn't get one for my car either for some reason). My bike is in bits at my parents house too so it's not exactly on my mind to declare SORN.

I know it's my fault, but it's still annoying that I now have to pay out £40 for a bike that's sitting in pieces because I didn't get any type of reminder through the post like I normally would ::/:

You're not doing too well with the road side of things lately are you :(

Doh!

Have you tried giving them a call saying there has been no reminder? Don't know if it will help but it might.

*hugs*

Boo to bills.

Silly question, do you actually have to pay for a SORN in the first place?

Nope.

It says on the letter that not receiving a reminder can not be used as an excuse for not declaring SORN, so no joy there.

No mate, doesn't cost a thing.

I need to set a reminder somewhere just in case I don't get a postal reminder next year. I think I'll stick it in Piggy's diary.

My sis got fined and clamped recently as she hadn't noticed the tax had expired - she got no reminder either.

Is that for the people who don't already know it's a Ducati?

SORN sucks - it's just another money-making scam designed to persuade people not to hang on to older vehicles.

Given all the data they have / have access to I'm surprised they don't send out e-mails or similar. cheap, with very little admin time involved.
IIRC I got a letter reminding me I hadn't declared my old Corsa as SORN, about 5 months after I'd sold her and had appropriate paperwork from them confirming transfer ;D

I got no reminder for my car either. Luckily I noticed and got it taxed before a fine was sent out. God knows what happened to two letters from the DVLA.

Yeah I had a reminder for my car tax a week or more ago and then Friday I got another card telling me I could do it on the web or over the phone as I was leaving it 'til the last minute.

Both vehicles are still registered to my parents address, but I collect their post (story I wont bore you with) every morning and I work with them every day. If something arrives for me at their address, I get it. The fine managed to work it's way through OK :(

Mine has just been freed from behind an old three-piece suite. I just have to wait for it to get a bit warmer though it was looking really nice today - I need to do a bit of a look-over it mechanically though. Might treat it to some new oil and even plugs :D

Very odd. What I do is remember the month then just do it on line when I remember. Mine still registered at parents as well.
