View Full Version : Weddings...
Picky and I are planning ours at the moment and it's muchos fun (though slightly stressful too! OMG how expensive can they be!!!)
Just was wondering what all you guys and girlies would want/have had wedding wise?! :)
Your Wedding/Ideal Wedding:
1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
3. Why the above?
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
5. What transport would you have?!
6. Reception Venue... your ideal location?
7. What kind of fud?
8. Decorations/themes/colours?
9. Dress code?
10. For Ladies: Your traditional dress or something more funky?
11. Bridesmaid style dresses?
12. Groom attire?
13. DJ/Band?
14. First song?
15. Flowers?
16. Your Gift List would include...?
17. Any added extras at reception(fireworks etc)?
18. Cakey cake (fruity/sponge/chocolate/decorations)?
19. Honeymoon... where to?!
20. Other stuff!
:)
I can answer that :)
1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
Medium wedding + reception in California, 50 people attending
Slightly bigger 2nd reception in Cornwall, 80-odd people attending
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
Getting married (civil) in the Mural Room of the Courthouse, Santa Barbara, California
3. Why the above?
Because it's gorgeous and only cost $250 to reserve, lol
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
Not sure, will have classical guitarist though and will speak to them soon about tunes
5. What transport would you have?!
Taxi probably, it's only 5 minutes from where we will be staying.
6. Reception Venue... your ideal location?
We are having 2 receptions, one in the Maritime Museum which is by the Marina in Santa Barbara, then a 2nd reception at Cotehele House in Cornwall.
7. What kind of fud?
1st - 3 course 'posh' buffet, prime rib and/or baked salmon with accompaniaments
2nd - Traditional english 'posh' buffet, lamb or something I think
8. Decorations/themes/colours?
Decorations are on a sea/marine theme (see reception venue!), her over there has a massive shell collection built up so we will be turning them into centrepieces for the reception.
9. Dress code?
Smart casual, apart from bride & groom's parents and ushers/bridesmaids.
10. For Ladies: Your traditional dress or something more funky?
She is wearing a proper wedding dress, but I can't see it, lol
11. Bridesmaid style dresses?
Simple, 'tea-length' (whatever that is, lol), cornflower blue (again, a girl colour)
12. Groom attire?
Tux! :D
13. DJ/Band?
DJ is one of her friends :)
14. First song?
Ummmmmm?
15. Flowers?
2 bouquets at the 'altar' none elsewhere, bouquets being sorted..
16. Your Gift List would include...?
I hate gift lists and think they suck. But apparently they are a necessary evil so the missus is thinking of things for it.
17. Any added extras at reception(fireworks etc)?
No.
18. Cakey cake (fruity/sponge/chocolate/decorations)?
Getting cake made, not sure what, decorating it ourself with maritime theme.
19. Honeymoon... where to?!
No honeymoon. Although when I move out there it's likely we'll take a month off to do something.
20. Other stuff!
Think you've covered everything. Christ weddings are expensive though...:p

Well you pretty much know of all this seeing as you were there, but I'm bored :)
1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
Quite medium-sized. Probably about 50 people at the om-nom bit. (I think posh people call it a wedding breakfast)
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
Illogan Church (http://www.saint-illogan.org.uk/illogan.html)
3. Why the above?
Wife's parish, and it's a nice church nestled away in some trees.
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
Nope, we had a different one. Tbh by that point I wasn't really paying attention to the music.
5. What transport would you have?!
We had an ivory Rolls dahling. It was quite a long trip to the reception.
6. Reception Venue... your ideal location?
Tregenna Castle hotel (http://www.tregenna-castle.co.uk/), perched on hills overlooking St Ives. Would have been nicer if it had been a clear day tho.
here's where I started to forget to put the bold tags in
7. What kind of fud?
A buffet, which was nice. Pasties in the evening.
8. Decorations/themes/colours?
Probably.
9. Dress code?
Don't think we specified one, but everyone turned up in shirts. Except the ladies. Well, most of the ladies.
10. For Ladies: Your traditional dress or something more funky?
Well it was an ivory dress, but it wasn't the usual puffed-out skirt style. Very very nice though.
11. Bridesmaid style dresses?
Same as the brides dress in style, but in a sort of purpley type colour.
12. Groom attire?
Suit. I was campaigning for a morning suit with top hat and cane but I was overruled :(
13. DJ/Band?
DJ. I was gladdened that everyone was still there at the end, top night.
14. First song?
Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk. I wanted a song nobody really knew, and it's a really nice song.
15. Flowers?
Yes, there were flowers. We used the same ones for the church as the reception. At least I think that's what Carla told you the other night.
16. Your Gift List would include...?
I'm not entirely sure we had one! I wanted to go around with one of those guns adding stuff to a list, but I don't think anywhere down here does that kind of thing.
17. Any added extras at reception(fireworks etc)?
A fine speech by the Best Man :)
18. Cakey cake (fruity/sponge/chocolate/decorations)?
We had one tier of fruit and one (or two, I forget) tier(s) of sponge. Most people like fruit but the wife and I like sponge.
19. Honeymoon... where to?!
We went to Spain a few days after (didn't want to go right after the ceremony).
OooOOOOoh Rich_L! Cornwall doo too! By First Song... like the first one you're going to dance to?! :D
I think I can safely say Cornwall rocks :D
Briggy - was it cloudy then that day? I thought it was super sunny? Am I mistaken?! *goes to look at piccies*
Will - cooommmmmmmon you must wanna get wedded up at some point! Your dream wedding! It could involve having... I dunno... Girls Aloud singing at your wedding :p

It was kind of hazy - you couldn't see much of the sea or much of St Ives. Was warm tho.
OooOOOOoh Rich_L! Cornwall doo too! By First Song... like the first one you're going to dance to?! :D
I think I can safely say Cornwall rocks :D
Briggy - was it cloudy then that day? I thought it was super sunny? Am I mistaken?! *goes to look at piccies*
Will - cooommmmmmmon you must wanna get wedded up at some point! Your dream wedding! It could involve having... I dunno... Girls Aloud singing at your wedding :p :D Yeah I know what you meant lol, was more like UMMMM god knows, funky chicken? Haha
Yes it certainly does :) I'm putting together a lil website for friends & family (when I get round to it...) with maps and piccies of all the various venues, imagine I'll post up here when it's done :p
Will - cooommmmmmmon you must wanna get wedded up at some point! Your dream wedding! It could involve having... I dunno... Girls Aloud singing at your wedding :p
Girls Aloud?! Ugh!! :(
Not really bothered about it I have to be honest, the only person that came close to changing my mind destroyed me so can't see it ever happening. But who knows maybe I'll trust someone enough again, I don't know.
Anyway this is a happy thread - I'll leave you to get back to it, just answering your question. :)
1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
Small ceremony, big reception/party :) The ceremony I'd like to only have close friends and family as I'd want it to be quite a personal event. The reception would be huge though as I'd want a huge party :D
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
Definitely civil.
3. Why the above?
Lightening would probably strike if I got married in a church :p Not sure who I'd get to do it as I didn't particularly like the humanist at my Dad's funeral as he had just as much an agenda/belief system as a religious person imo and I found it irritating.
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
Probably briefly but I'd also like another song playing to make it unique, just not sure what.
5. What transport would you have?!
Whatever's cheapest ;D I'm really not fussed as it's only a car for getting there.
6. Reception Venue... your ideal location?
Dunno really. Went to a friend's wedding years ago at a country park and that was realllllly nice. So that might be cool.
7. What kind of fud?
Buffet, sit down meal always seems to unnerve people more and I'd want a relaxed atmosphere.
8. Decorations/themes/colours?
*shrugs* No idea
9. Dress code?
Don't really mind as I'd want people to be comfortable, but suppose smart casual.
10. For Ladies: Your traditional dress or something more funky?
Something I could reuse for a different occasion if I wanted to. No way would I be able to justify spending a fortune on a dress that was only ever used once. So I'd get something I could adapt for a party or something.
11. Bridesmaid style dresses?
;D Not a clue!
12. Groom attire?
Suit, men always look better in a suit :D
13. DJ/Band?
DJ, friend of mine's a DJ so I'd probably get him to do it.
14. First song?
Not sure, I've got a few ideas but they'd probably change by that point.
15. Flowers?
Probably just a few to make things brighter. I'm not really a flowers sort of person.
16. Your Gift List would include...?
Not sure really as I'd want to live with the man before marrying anyway so we'd have most stuff. Maybe some cookery stuff I'd never want to spend money on myself (like pots that are brilliant but cost an absolute fortune, or a pasta maker), ooh and something like Rock Band ;D
17. Any added extras at reception(fireworks etc)?
Don't think so.
18. Cakey cake (fruity/sponge/chocolate/decorations)?
I'd have one with a layer of fruit, a layer of sponge and a layer of chocolate. Then in theory everyone would be happy :D
19. Honeymoon... where to?!
No idea, it'd depend on where I'd been by that point in my life.

1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
Medium with about 40-50 at the ceremony and 75 at the reception, everyone stayed who was at the ceremony and had a buffet and drinks in the grounds during the afternoon
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
http://www.nettlesteadplace.co.uk/weddings/index.html
3. Why the above?
It was beautiful we were married in the undercroft and then had a reception in a big marque, the gardens are fab for photos.
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
Teardrop by Massive Attack
5. What transport would you have?!
Didn't bother with anything flash for either of us, minibus there for me and posh cab home
6. Reception Venue... your ideal location?
See above
7. What kind of fud?
Afternoon buffet with cheeses and fresh bread, nibbles on the lawn and champagne/ Pimms
8. Decorations/themes/colours?
Nothing out of the ordinary, beautiful flowers in modern arrangements done by my mother and her flower group
9. Dress code?
I was in a white tux jacket as was the best man, everyone wore what they felt was appropriate
10. For Ladies: Your traditional dress or something more funky?
It was stunning,, I'm sure Aitch will be able to give you a full description
11. Bridesmaid style dresses?
Can't remember, don't case I was looking at Aitch
12. Groom attire?
See above
13. DJ/Band?
Both, Band were http://www.bigfunkcorporation.com/
14. First song?
David Grey - Sail Away
15. Flowers?
Yes, modern arangments on the table, Aitch's bouquet was unconventional
16. Your Gift List would include...?
It would have included most of you lot but alas it was before the days of BD
17. Any added extras at reception(fireworks etc)?
One set of fireworks, I can strongly recomend a single fuse display box something like this http://www.allstarsfireworks.co.uk/menu/left_menu/ViewItem.big?nFireworkId=1457
18. Cakey cake (fruity/sponge/chocolate/decorations)?
A fruitcake made by my Nan, she used to do lots of comissions and a chocolate cake from here
http://www.choccywoccydoodah.com/
19. Honeymoon... where to?!
Thailand and Malaysia
20. Other stuff!
Spend money on a good photographer, go and see them in their studio, look at their work, does it suit your style of wedding, I can honestly say I love our photos and do look back at them, its worth the investment.

I wanted Fairytale of New York after discussion it was decided that it probably wasn't appropriate :D

1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
Medium sized wedding which would probably turn into a big wedding as I wouldn't want to miss anyone out! Big reception too.
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
Civil I think. That just means not by a minister right? Would like to get married outside near the sea or in the Royal Botanics or something. Would like wedding at night, on a gazebo with fairly lights.
3. Why the above?
I feel guilty when I'm at religious things as I really don't believe. It would be incredibly hipocritical for me to get married in a church.
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
I think so but maybe played on guitar or something to make it slightly different.
5. What transport would you have?!
Probably my dad's Merc to keep the costs down. And to keep the tradition going in my family!
6. Reception Venue... your ideal location?
Maybe in a hotel or if it's a nice day in the Botanics with the wedding.
7. What kind of fud?
Buffet, again to save on money. Plus, I love the triangle sandwiches!
8. Decorations/themes/colours?
Purple would be involved. Balloons and bubbles for the kids.
9. Dress code?
Not too fussed. If people are in proper photos then guys in kilts and girls in dresses. For just reception it doesn't matter.
10. For Ladies: Your traditional dress or something more funky?
I saw a fantastic dress on tv. It was purple silk with black lace over the top of it and a slit all the way up to the thigh and little shorts underneath! It's just me!
11. Bridesmaid style dresses?
Not sure. I'd pick shoes first then build around that!
12. Groom attire?
Kilt. Iain looks nice in a kilt!
13. DJ/Band?
Dj probably. But I'd have a complete list of songs and all of them would have to be played.
14. First song?
Aerosmith - Don't wanna miss a thing or Bryan Adams - Everything I do. :o
15. Flowers?
Purple and white roses if you can even get them!
16. Your Gift List would include...?
Not sure. We have most stuff. Would quite like a new bed though. :o
17. Any added extras at reception(fireworks etc)?
The photoframe thing that people sign. Instead of a guestbook.
18. Cakey cake (fruity/sponge/chocolate/decorations)?
Sponge with the jam and cream with loads of thick icing on top!
19. Honeymoon... where to?!
Hawaii or Thailand.
I've obviously had WAY too much time to think about this!
The below is what I had last year;
1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
Not really sure what number class as small-large but had 80 people for food and another 40 in the evening.
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
In a church as we found a really nice one and both sides of the family appreciated it even though the religious side wasn't important to us.
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
Yup :)
5. What transport would you have?!
Horse drawn carriage to bring the bride and other ladies down and the same to take us to the reception.
6. Reception Venue... your ideal location?
Ballroom of a very nice local hotel.
7. What kind of fud?
3 courses. Soup, full Yorkshire roast dinner, crumble and custard. (Need a nom smiley)
8. Decorations/themes/colours?
Flowers and bows on the aisles of the church, plus other flowers in the church, colours were teal and ivory.
9. Dress code?
Nothing explicit but you expect people to dress smartly really.
12. Groom attire?
I had full tophat and tails, I would have had a pimp cane too but was banned by executive order :(
13. DJ/Band?
Both, the band played the first song then did a 45 min set, the DJ did some music while the evening buffet came out then the band came back for a 1 hour set and the DJ finished off the night.
14. First song?
Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.
16. Your Gift List would include...?
We asked for Thomas Cook vouchers to help pay towards the honeymoon, although wording wasn't that outright, more like we didn't have anything specific we wanted but if you're stuck for something to get then vouchers would be great.
17. Any added extras at reception(fireworks etc)?
We had an exploding confetti balloon that went off at the end of the First Dance, fireworks would probably have been cool, but I imagine getting everyone out to watch them might have been a bit like herding cats, and I imagine a really good show is expensive.
18. Cakey cake (fruity/sponge/chocolate/decorations)?
Fruit cake base, Sponge cake 2nd tier, chocolate sponge 3rd tier and the top of the castle was solid regal icing :)
19. Honeymoon... where to?!
4 weeks travelling round Australia, the wedding was in August but we delayed the honeymoon until November for the better weather, absolutely the best holiday ever.

This is provided I can find any bugger to marry me!
1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
Kind of in the middle, I dont have hundreds and hundreds of friends, so would rather have everybody who came along mean something to me, rather than invite people for the sake of it.
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
Go check out this place, its simply stunning when the sun is out, flipping expensive im sure, but lovely http://www.bbc.co.uk/bristol/content/image_galleries/goldney_hall_gallery.shtml?1
3. Why the above?
Cos its bleeding gorgeous!
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
I'd like to walk down to the middle piano bit from Desirees "Kissing you" the bit that kicks in on 2min 56 until the end, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt-NwAA3Wvo I want someone actually there playing it though
5. What transport would you have?!
Pink limo's all round!!! :D
6. Reception Venue... your ideal location?
Marquee at the place I showed you above, its massive, so we'd all just move somewhere else for the fun and games!
7. What kind of fud?
I dont really want a formal sit down type meal, so I was thinking the wedding would be late afternoon, and then we would just have like an evening buffet type thing
8. Decorations/themes/colours?
Pink! Oh and something in homage to Bristol City (sorry BB! Dont kill me! :o )
9. Dress code?
Whatever the chuff people want to wear
10. For Ladies: Your traditional dress or something more funky?
I loved the dress whatshername wore in American Pie, so it would be something like this http://www.cinema.com/image_lib/7484_pie003.jpg
11. Bridesmaid style dresses?
Baby pink, other than that im not sure
12. Groom attire?
Ive always had a thing about men in cream suits (please dont laugh) so i'd quite like it if they had something along those lines on.
13. DJ/Band?
Havent a clue but I did see this bloke recently, and im fairly certain he would be a giggle when everyones had a few drinks http://www.stevejamesshow.biz/
14. First song?
Break up by Robbie Williams, just to see everyones faces! ;D Cant answer that in all seriousness because it would have to be a song that meant something to both of us.
15. Flowers?
Not too many but following the pink theme again methinks.
16. Your Gift List would include...?
Lots of yummy stuff for meeeeeeeeeeee! ;)
17. Any added extras at reception(fireworks etc)?
I'd like some silly type of thing going on in the corner, like a magician or a bouncy castle, which I would obviously have first dibs on :p
18. Cakey cake (fruity/sponge/chocolate/decorations)?
I havent decided on the actual cake but it would be one from here http://www.choccywoccydoodah.com/
19. Honeymoon... where to?!
Turtle Island! One day i'll go there http://www.turtlefiji.com/
20. Other stuff!

20. Other stuff!
Do as Matt said with regards to the photos. We didn't and though we ended up with some good photos, it's something I really regret not spending effort/time/money on selecting a good photographer.
Dolls... I am afraid I may have to wear sunglasses to your wedding unless the colour scheme changes :p
Ok.. some of the things I have put are a bit unrealistic - unless I win the lottery big time!

Whomever I marry can have what she wants, but I'm arriving and leaving in a DeLorean.

1. Big Wedding/Small wedding!?
Quite small, not really bothered about the ceremonial part, just want to be part of Phil's family.
2. Where/how would you be wed? Church/civil etc?
Civil, would be nice in a hotel.
3. Why the above?
I'm Pagan so church is out, and it would be unfair on Phil to have a Pagan wedding as he isn't!
4. Traditional Wedding March Choon when walking the aisle?
Nope, and hopefully no aisle either.
5. What transport would you have?!
F40 for him, horse drawn carriage for me. I believe the deal is that he drives the F40 though so I guess we might go for a spin afterwards.

I wouldn't have bridemaids.
12. Groom attire?
Suit that complements colours.
