View Full Version : My first 365 - 2009
Inspired by friends and the results I've seen from their photography over the last 12 months, I’ve decided that I’m going to do my own ‘365′. I've been thinking about it, and seeing that friends are brave enough to give it a go, I'm gonna have a bash too. I'm doing it here though because I think I'll be brave enough to post stuff here that I might not want to on other photography related forums. It'll all be on my webby too.
It’s basically a photograph every day. I might not always be able to post every day if I’m not near a web connection but it will make me take at least one new photograph every single day of 2009. Or at least that’s the plan. I’ve not been motivated for the longest time, and I hope this will help me change that.
There’s no real theme, it’s whatever takes my fancy on that day. And as my website is going to undergo a real revamp soon, it will have a better home then. But for now, this will do. Hopefully we’ll see improvement as the year goes by!
I’m starting off with a photo I took today with my new nifty fifty lens that I got for my birthday. So here’s the New Years Day shot:

Hmm tempted to the the same... but.. its the 2nd today?
Do it Roger, I am doing one as well, you can catch up for one day :)
Well done Kitten, Ill be keeping an eye on yours :)
Thanks guysl. Do it Rog!! And yours too Dee. I reckon if we're both doing it, we'll both stick to it (that's the plan anyway :D)
Here's today's photo: 020109 : Sunset at the Cemetery

Just taken one for today - will post process it tomorrow. May go for something "different" for the 1st ;)

I like the 365's - I'll be watching the progress of all of you :)
Same :D
Brilliant. Will definitely bookmark this thread :)
If I'm allowed to join in I wouldn't mind giving this a go!
I'm a bit of a n00b with photography, but being a bit arty farty, I enjoy trying to snap different things.
Would be nice to try and develop what very little skills I have over the year :)
I'm a day behind already... will have to go through to the 1st of 2010! This was yesters...
The Looming Diet...

(santa won btw... dieting canny start until Pickys back at school... he's too much of a bad influence)
Bit worried about posting in this thread as don't want to overload it (plus my stuffs going to be utter tripe in comparison to you lot!)! If it'd be best for me to post on a blog say so - I will probably just chuck in a weekly update every so often so not to overcrowd - Pickys suggestion ) :)
I was tempted to do this when I saw other people were having a go, but only spotted it yesterday. This morning I remembered I have actually taken some happy-snaps on my compact on both the 1st and 2nd, so I could just start with those. I haven't really used my bridge camera much since I got it in August so maybe it's about time I had a go.
Do it guys! Its not too late!
you're all welcome to join in this thread if you like, i have no problems with it :) Could be interesting to see how it grows. I posted my first on my blog on NYD and only started this thread on the 2nd, as I said, I might not post every day but I will take a photo every day. There has to be a compromise somewhere, and if I'm away on hols or with work then I might have to do a bulk upload when I get back. :D I think it's one of those things that you'll get to a certain point and say 'bloody hell, I've taken looooads of good pics this year' compared to getting there and thinking 'well I've taken a few snaps of the dog, and there was that wedding'.
Mine is also on facebook and on my webby (as is Dee's....that's on her facebook and webby, not mine :p)
Ill prob follow yours more on FB Kitten, so dont be mad if I dont post in here often :)
OK, I only had a few pics from the last two days so these are, in one case regretfully, pretty much the only pics I had.

No probs Dee, this is more for me than anyone else!
Nice start Belmito :D
Very good start Belmit :D
Its been ages since I tried any of this stuff - certainly gonna be god for me to do this!
I think I may have tried far too hard in these - some candid shots in the future methinks and some with little photoshopping so I can work on my composition and camerawork ;)
captures my usual new years day (and actually christmas morn)perception!

All really good so far :)
Making me wish I had the dedication and a camera to do it :D
you have an iphone! That's all you need.
you have an iphone! That's all you need.
Bit rubbish though, isn't it? ;D I might see if I can take more photos this year :) Wouldn't like to be seen to be jumping on a bandwagon and you lot are much better than me :D I haven't got the right eye for it I think.
don't be silly, bandwagons are there to be jumped on! And it doesn't matter if you only have a mobile phone, they can be much better for representing your day to day life as you tend to have them with you more often :)
You could try to post an image a week if one a day is too much? Call it a 52 :D
don't be silly, bandwagons are there to be jumped on!
Said the Daily Mail editor? ;D
One a week might be good :D See if I improve by the end of the year or not ;D
Another vote here for the "52" project Jen, its much more manageable :)
*jumps*
Going to have an interesting year so it seems good to document it.
Cheated a bit and did three today but they are applicable to each of the days they relate to ;)
1st January 2009 - After a hectic but very fun NYE, two things were on my mind, bath and bed.
http://www.kaiowas.co.uk/vix/365/0101.jpg
2nd Jan - braved the sales.
http://www.kaiowas.co.uk/vix/365/0201.jpg
3rd Jan - worked on cars again after about 5 months off. Had to jack my car up to wash her properly, although we did check the brakes as well.
http://www.kaiowas.co.uk/vix/365/0301.jpg
yay I'm so happy so many peeps are joining in :D This will be awesome \o/
Nice cardi Vix! And Yes Jen, I do watch QI too much ;D
Another vote here for the "52" project Jen, its much more manageable :)
I'll give it a shot :)
I love my stripy cardi :)
Mine is very much a snapshot jobby, I'm not very good at post processing although I might have the odd go, especially on non eventful days when I have to take pics of the mundane :)
Its a pic a day! It doesnt have to be processed or anything :)
GL guys :) I'll be watching this thread too. I'm debating starting mine after seeing Bod's work.

I have to admit I was tempted but I don't have a camera anywhere near good enough to do it, on the k800i :(
I was thinking though it might be a good idea for each of you to set up 365 Groups on FB as you'd be able to load all the pics on there in order etc :) I know the individual albums won't hold enough and it might help you keep everything in order :)

I'm definitely tempted to have a go at this as well. I've not used my camera enough since getting it, and attempting to take a new picture every day of even mundane stuff around the house could be an interesting project. Don't think I took any pictures yesterday so I may need to catch up a day somewhere.
And nice pics so far everyone. Kitten, I love the cemetary pic :)
You just need a camera. Its not about great photography. Its about taking photos and doing something that means something to you. Of course great photography helps in the same way that being a great gardener would help you transform your garden over 12 months, but it doesn't stop people.
Some people go for a theme like self portraits, or documenting their lives or simply trying to take a photo a day in the hope that by the end of it they're a better photographer.

Lovely photo's Kitten, but your avatar is bloody awful! ;D. A nice Man Utd crest would be much more attractive.
Some really nice photo's here, love the Santa-GI Jean photo from pheebs thus far as well as Kittens cemetery photo.
I dont know whether or not to post mine in here as well. Was just gonna keep it to my website and FB.

I dunno, seems like a lot of work, I'm just going to publish primarily to my webby each day (it's as much to get me blogging and writing more as well as taking more photos), then posting here and FB will be secondary :) Good idea though, but not sure if people want to join any more groups. What do you guys think?
And sod off Nokkon :p
Bugger, I never thought that a FB album only holds 60 pictures. *grumbles*
I am just going to stick to my webby, rather than hijacking this thread. Everyone is free to follow mine by clicking my sig though :)
it's hardly hijacking Dee, it's the point of it really, to keep everyone who wants to do one in one place. If you don't want to, that's fine, but it's not spoiling anything or taking over.
Here's the lastest one.

Just realised I had a much better pic of Pebbles-cat with her head through the bannister on my phone that I could have used for day 2. Now I'm stuck with 'tacheface.

Well I thought I'd post about my own 365 challenge, although it doesn't involve photography nor does the aim of the challenge contain doing something on every day of the year, but it's something a little different:
http://www.nokkonwud.com/?page_id=405
All of IMDb's Top 250 watched in a year.
Excellent idea!! :D You going to review them all?

Hah, we should all try it then! :D.
Kell_ee, the aim is to see all 250 regardless of seeing them, which is good as I can watch films like 12 Angry Men and Shawshank Redemption whenever I want - 2 of my 5 favourite movies of all time :D.
I don't know if I'll have time to review them all, but I'll try my best, although none will be as in-depth as my Dark Knight review for example, perhaps 2 or 3 paragraphs :D. Already watched and did a small write up on The Wrestler.

Think I might join in, but by doing one a week. It makes it more achievable for me. I've neglected my photography somewhat this yr. Need a kick up the arse :)
What lens are you excercising there Dee? I think maybe 2009 is the year I upgrade from the kit lens I've been packing for the past 3 years :p
All four were done with the 50mm 1.8. I love it so :)
Walkies in the night - Yesters Photo :)
http://pheebeh.googlepages.com/01-03-09-WalkiesinTheNightcopy.jpg
Was SOOO annoyed though last night... Pickys superb camera just doesn't like me! I had some ACE shots when out walking and annoyingly... because it was dark... it wouldn't let me take photos without the flash (and sometimes with the flash)! I didn't know enough about how to adjust the settings, although had a minor play and still failed miserably!
Must learn how to do night shots. It was aaaaaaannnnooooooooying!

What about a screenshot per day instead of a photo Haly?
Good excuse to play games every day in 2009. If you needed one. ;)

I got one of those for my birthday and have hardly used anything else since! Day 1 and 2 were both taken with it :D I can't believe how awesome it is.
Liking all the pictures so far :D

;D I like your thinking :) But I mainly play 360 games and if I screenshotted the PC every day it'd get very dull as it's always roughly the same thing ;D

iPhone your TV when playing :D.
The nifty fifty is an incredible lens and every Canon EF EOS user should have one in their kit. They're SO cheap that it's rude not to :p
I'm after a new lens this year. I need a walkabout lens in the 50-130ish range. I used Mel's Canon EF 28-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM lens in Cyprus and really liked it, so I'm going to save up for that as L glass is WAY out of my price range at the moment. That 70-200L will have to wait a bit longer :)
Anyway, here's my weekly shot (yeah I know weekly is a cop out, but I can't cope with daily at the moment :p)
http://www.lostkat.co.uk/04Jan08.jpg
Week 1 - Try Harder. I wanted to compose something related to my New Year Resolutions, which are mainly around pushing myself harder in terms of fitness. I'm pretty active anyway, but want to up the ante this year and compete in a 10k towards the Autumn. I was digging through my gym stuff and realised that my grubby towel says it all really. I made this last year and always put it on my step when I'm doing Body Pump to remind me that I need to push myself.
[edit]MEH, just noticed a load of annoying shadows on the background. Oh well... must try harder :p
Nice pic kate, I think I need to do the same myself.

Kitten I am loving your changing sigs :D
Doesnt matter then, was going to ask how you did it, but wont bother now ;D
Lol, it's nothing clever, it's just creating a new sig out of part of the new photo. That's why it's a pita and we're only on day 4 (and sig3 :p)
I'm going to set up a rotation shortly and then tell it which photo to pick up - but the problem is it'll either be massive or it'll resize automatically, which the OCD in me will make me redo manually anyway :p
Setting up a FB group was enough trouble, so I didnt bother :D
Have I gone mad, or have Dee's photos vanished. I wanted to comment, damnit!

I quite like this one as it was handheld at 1/4 second in the freezing cold. I'm surprised you can even see what it is, I felt I was shaking constantly (as some of my other pictures that night show).
Others to follow later when I get them off the camera :)

That's one difference between a beginner and a pro I think. A beginner gets 1 good shot out of 10. The pro gets 1 bad shot :)

Of course Wall-E belongs to everyone but this one came from someone very special who suddenly appeared, right out of the Ordinar:E and bought me something for my birthday that they knew would make me smile.

Awwww :D He looks like he's coming to you for a hug!
haha, from my facebook:
I wanted him to look like he was asking to be lifted up for a cuddle. :)
...and what are you doing up at 4.56? Still feeling rotten? :(
I’m still full of lurgy, so I’m not venturing outside today. I was messing about with my back-up camera when I captured this shot and although it’s not what I was planning on posting today, I’ve decided it’s worth it. So, here’s today’s pic:
Bella is the youngest of our 3 cats, she is also a rescue cat like Sally - and was that scared of people that she spent the first year she was with us hiding under the sofa. 3 years on and she’s a little more relaxed. So much so, you have to keep turfing her off your knee so that you can move!

"WHASSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP" ;D ;D ;D
9th Jan - work begins on Sakura's clutch, thanks to Phil who spent two days on this in the end, in the absulutely freezing temperatures.
http://www.kaiowas.co.uk/vix/365/0901.jpg
10th Jan - Told you it was cold. I worry about the birds getting food in this weather.

11th Jan - New clutch works, took Sakura to see some other MR2 friends.

the birds aren't the only ones who had frozen nuts by all accounts!! ;)
Today has been another cold, cold, benylin filled day. Remember when you were a kid, did you have a favourite blanket that you never wanted to be away from? Me too, and i've got a special 'grown-up' version. So I've spent most of it snuggled up with a kitty or two underneath the bestest most loved (if slightly tatty) blanket in the world :)

Hurrah for big, warm blankets and kitties :) I think we were thinking along the same line Kitten :D
Week 2 - Happiness is... a litte cat who's been given an old fluffy dressing gown as a bed - I gave her my old dressing gown a few weeks ago and put it under the radiator for her. It's like all her birthdays have come at once. She's barely got off it all week.
http://www.lostkat.co.uk/11Jan09.jpg
I didn't want to post this as my weekly pic, but it'll have to do. I wanted to post pics of a beautiful church down the road surrounded by the frosty countryside. However, I feel ****e and haven't not ventured far since Wednesday. So, this week's pic is dedicated to my little Flo, who's the only person thrilled that I've been off work and tucked up in bed feeling crap because it means she can snuggle up in bed with me. This photo looks MUCH better in Photoshop. As soon as I save it, it loses all its nice contrast. :( Boo.
Awww that picture is adorable :)
Loving everyone's cute snuggly cat pics. Goggles legs it whenever I get the camera out :/
I think it's snuggley cat weather :D I certainly wish I was one right now!
Finally remembered to join in. Hopefully I'll remember to keep up with you guys :)
I'm in a good mood right now so I expect there won't be an entry tomorrow when I'm moody and depressed. For those that don't know their history, shame on you, I tried once before (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=68456). People liked my processing style but I decided it wasn't for me since my processing wasn't my own. Something this personal should be my own through and through. I'm hoping to be as open as Marcel has been, but there is a danger in that. If anyone has seen Peep Show then you'll understand what its like to be in my head :D

I hear the internet is on computers now. Look ma. I'm on the internet! Plans for this 365 as stated. Document my life. Whatever that means. I'll tackle the bad stuff as it comes, which annoyingly is more often than it should be.

I've spent most of the day looking at words. Tomorrow I hit the enemy toast and finish the HDR book. The final chapter, portraits. I imagine theres a fair few hoops to jump through after that though but the real work will be done. Oh and yes I am wearing WW1 fighter pilot goggles.

Today has been one of those days. I finally finished my part of the HDR guide book. It was a weight off. Tomorrow I can just do whatever and enjoy it. Annoyingly the day was somewhat spoilt by the petty forum bitching over HDR. That same nonsense day in day out. It really gets to me. I've spent 3 to 4 months writing this huge book, putting as much as I can think of into it and there is a part of me that thinks its just going to bring more trouble my way.
I got tired of all the fighting in web design. I was a strong believer in CSS and adhering to W3C standards. Annoyingly the majority of the web aren't. Its hard work trying to convince people and spending your time fighting with them day in day out on forums really gets me down. I enjoyed a break from that with photography. However it seems that I've now found the most controversial aspect of modern day photography and put myself right in the thick of it.
Most days its fine. I can take the heat and dish it out. Annoyingly today has been stressful. I've been trying to get this last chapter done for a while and its been hard. I firmly believe in what I'm doing and the merits of HDR, but its just very hard trying to get it to work on some subjects. I needed it work to show people just what can be done. As George McFly used to say "If you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything." I knew it would work and it does. I'm glad the chapter is in the book. Its just when you're trying to write and also fight with people online its stressful and depressing. "What am I doing? I can't do this? Jesus christ this is impossible." Its like dominoes. It only takes one little thing and a chain reaction starts. Only takes one little thing for me to get very depressed at the wrong time. I'm left fighting that, fighting deadlines and fighting with people.
At the end of the day the book is going to be fantastic. For now I can literally wash my hands of it until the editing process kicks in. Its been a tough day. This entry nearly wasn't to be. I was ready to throw in the towel. "Fk it. I'm really not in the mood for photos." Must thank my friends who helped me get back on track :)

One week down. 51 left. Simple image tonight. Its been a simple day. Had a milkshake from Shakeabout in L1, wandered round with sister and nephew.
Came home and caught up with Gundam 00. Really fantastic Gundam series, totally beats Gundam Seed. I found that far too annoying as the main character spent most of the series crying, whining about the evils of war and not wanting to fight. Screw that. Its Gundam. I wanna see mechs fighting not kids crying. Thankfully Gundam 00 delivers in spades. Really great, and in HD too. The model featured is from Gundam Wing. I need to get something from 00 some day.

A long day. This is me doing a silly tourist photo. As you can see I managed to take my self by surprise too. Gotta love the D700's ISO6400 support. Amazing camera. Loing it so so much. After this I went to cover the street events and its like day time at ISO6400. So clean, so much light. Perfect exposures. I <3 this camera.

My 365 lasted long :o Through tiredness, being busy, and a complete lack of inspiration I only got a couple of pics last week. May just turn it into a 52 like Kate and hopefully through the year turn it into a daily pic.
Loving the kitty pics :D

Nice artwork in there :)
Seems you have a possessed camera like Pigmo :p
EDIT: I have my first photo of the year taken, just need to download and upload. Will do that later on.
My second week:
I went to Ikea today and bought a huge DVD rack. However along the way I couldn't resist some rather colourful scissors :D
http://www.halycopter.com/images/52/jan2.jpg
Yaaaaaaay to ikea and their big boxes of stuff everywhere!
Pete - I want your super hero mask! How cool!!!
Vix - those kind of concrete buildings remind me of Southampton Railway station flats!
Kate - Kitty looks loverly and snuggly! I wanna be all snuggled like her!
Tracy - saw it a while ago and neglected to comment - I Luuurve the sally dawg piccie! She looks like Trio when she's just been spoken to whilst led on the ground and is paying attention... but not sure whether she should move yet! :D I like it!
Davey... I too have been poo. I initially thought I broked the camera as no matter what setting I put it on it would not take any pictures what so ever. Had a bit of a panic and thought "oh no, Pickys gonna hang me" and figured I would break the news to him when he was less involved in work. Two days later, he picks up the cam and takes a piccie straight away and I'm like "eh?!?"
So kind of mucked up the whole 365 but still taking piccies when I can :)
This is todays - My Happy Hand and My Sad Hand
http://pheebeh.googlepages.com/011208-Chilblains.jpg
Poor Sad Hand has chilblains and isn't particularly content drawing/gripping/moving/being submersed in water etc. It just wants to be warm and left alone.
However.
I'm one of those stoopid people who, when they discover a bruise think it requires to be prodded every other minute, despite hurting, to see how it's doing :p
Luckily for me it's been warmer today though and it has been feeling a bit bettereererrer :)

Some great pics in here guys, I wish I could manage to take decent pics :(
I’ve always been a bit of a bookworm. As an only child, books were my only constant companion and as yet, have never let me down.
Recently, I’ve rediscovered Thomas Hardy, and now I’m a bit older, his works seem completely different to those boring old books I was forced to read when I was at school. I guess while some things stay the same, others change.

ive always wondered this - any hobby / pro photographers who copyright symbol their photos, how do you stand when it's photos of something that surely already is copyright in itself?
i've noticed it on a few forums - just never asked.
anyone have any ideas?

It depends. If you goto an art gallery and take a close up its essentially a reproduction and can be seen as a violation of copyright. If you go to an art gallery and use a really wide lens to photograph the space and the artwork is just there in the background its ok.
Some fun shots today. You didn't buy all the scissors did you Haly? :)

Hahaha, I seem to have bags no matter what light! I feel like mine are the size of the jumbo ikea bags at the moment and aaall because Mister SNORE FACE Pickers kept interrupting my sleep last night :p
I challenge you to take a photo of my face without eyebags next time I see you! Unless I've managed to get uber amounts of sleep (not likely :p)
Cheets - I think it's quite a cheery thread! Other than my chilblains and eye bag one I've posted relatively cheery ones as have others! And how can you say a bin full of colourful scissors aren't cheery?! ;D
it's your fault Pete, all your d00m and gl00m ;)
I tried to be Doom and Quake :p
These birds reminded me of the dancing starlings I saw when I was in Rome in November. They were amazing, hurtling everywhere, making such amazing shapes. And there were so, so many of them. These birds were just flying south - presumably they’re a bit late leaving due to the recent cold snap and decided to make a fly for it. The sky was so unusual on this one that I thought I’d try to capture it. Unfortunately I was only armed with my N95, but I think it turned out pretty well, considering.

So yer, feeling a bit "emo" lately with things. Far too much bitching going on in certain places of the web. Too many people looking to argue about stupid things. Too many people doing the pick holes in successful person thing. Its been a long few days with it all but things like this remind me that in some ways its worth it. 14th Jan. Back to work and it's a gloomy day.
http://www.kaiowas.co.uk/vix/365/1401.jpg
Nicely composed shot Vix. I agree, today is gloomy for some reason. It's Cheets fault, he's made us all think of the word :p
Strange day today. 2 weeks in I’m a bit fed up. I was so enjoying getting to know my 400D better and actually making some real time for photography in my life and the bloody thing broke.
So I’m currently waiting for an update from the repair centre while struggling with the bridge camera, missing my 400D and desperately trying not to lose my motivation. My lens box (containing my new shiny nifty fifty) is glaring at me and my ideas book is getting stuffed with things I can’t do right now (at least I shouldn’t be stuck for inspiration in the future!!)
So for something fun for today and to celebrate the success of my spontaneous mobile shot yesterday, I flexed my lowly N95 camera and decided that I’d take a photo on my mobile today of the first thing that made me notice it in Liverpool city centre as I crossed over to Liverpool one this lunchtime. So here it is - parked near my work, outside the old Atlantic Tower hotel, now the Thistle on the Mall. It’s a bit noisy and the light wasn’t great, so I’ve gone for a starker image than the original.

Wednesday. The highlight of my recent Wednesdays is Bleach. Its a Japanese anime series about a school kid who takes the powers of a Shinigami (Death God). From then on the story unfolds. Its your typical anime. New threats come along, people get stronger, defeat bad guys, new threats. Its really entertaining with classic anime humour thrown in. Random chibi moments, breaking the 4th wall, etc. The guy here is Ichigo Kurasaki, the hero. He's holding his Zanpaktu, which is a sort of self aware sword. I need to get a new figure because theres this form, his Bankai form and his Hollow transformation form too. If you're not into anime you'll think I'm watching kids cartoons. If you are into anime you'll get my enthusiasm.

I don't know, it's funny. Some days you have to search and search for something that you can take a photo of. Other days, there's so much you can't capture it all.
Today was one of the former. I came out from work to discover this huge ship (http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/content/articles/2009/01/14/places_ark_royal_return_feature.shtml) (I'm reliably informed that it isn't a boat) parked outside, and then, I discovered a local celebrity standing in front of it who just happened to have a copy of his new book on him. (Ok, maybe I had it and forced him to stand with it :p).
Anyway, despite it being noisy and shaky from the cold, I'm posting this photo today to say ' Congratulations' to a good friend for all that he has achieved over the last few years, and in particular last year. I'm really proud of him, and I know that he is only going to get better. And what's more, he actually looks happy in this one! :D

I've seen that bloke around my house! Hehe cool photo :D
I know, he's a right weirdo :p
if only the flash had gone off!! In fact, iirc that's what you were laughing at, my inability to use a basic bridge camera in front of you ;D
What a lovely pic. Pete smiling.... OMG!!! :D
Thanks Kate. I'm annoyed I cocked the flash up. But then he wouldn't have laughed so meh. :D
Awesome photo today Kitten, shame about the subject ;)
*wubs Pete*
I think it wouldn't have looked as good with the flash though kitten as the blue lights wouldn't reflect as much as they do would they? therefore wouldn't look as fantastic imo.
I really like it :D
Thanks guys - glad you like it Lommy :D
well ok, as it's you lot, I'll show you the one with the flash :p
Sorry Pete *giggles* but call it revenge for that sodding Dambusters pic ;D
http://www.chicgeek.co.uk/365/peteflash.jpg
Yeah, didn't think it'd work with the flash as it underexposes the background. No flash and laughing Pete ftw
thanks Kate, I looked at the flashy ones again and i agree. I'm glad I caught Pete laughing - it's nice to see him relaxed and how I see him. I'm just a perfectionist I guess and it's not as good as i'd like it to be. *slaps wrist* Then again, not much is! I'll get better
Thought it wouldn't have looked as good, I love the blue lights reflecting it looks really cool :D
cool pic! I do like it without the flash, brings out the lovely background.
My 365 is very much a photo documentary rather than a display of my good photography.
15th Jan. My leg is killing today. I hate it.
http://www.kaiowas.co.uk/vix/365/1501.jpg
Actually I have had to use some skillz in this shot as the flash was so bright it bounced off my shiny leg and made everything too bright. Several experiments with a bit of paper brings you this pic ;) God I want a decent camera :(
ouchy Vix :(
Well done on the 'not overexposing' thing. (flashwise, obviously :p)
I'm really enjoying your pics.
Thanks guys - glad you like it Lommy :D
well ok, as it's you lot, I'll show you the one with the flash :p
Sorry Pete *giggles* but call it revenge for that sodding Dambusters pic ;D
haha! Thats so bad :p If you can change the settings the way to get the best of both worlds is to up the ISO to bring out the background detail while using the flash to fill in the subject, me. If the cam lets you do that. But I think the non flash shot works just fine :)

Good day. Got some work done. Setup my external monitor to act as a digital photo frame. its an odd thing and some may say its a waste of a display but having all your favourite photos pop up at 15'' size is nice to see. In the afternoon I went to visit HMS Ark Royal. I wasn't really planning on getting a lot of photos but I got some nice ones on the press tour. Nice cuppa too. After I bumped into some mates, had my soul stolen by their camera and wandered off to my car via this bridge. A good day. Nice to chat to real people, have a laugh and spend time away from the computer.

Just a quick shot as I edit the days photos. Splashed out on a new shutter release button for my D700. £55 :/ Very annoying but it does the job. Got some long exposures at Ark Royal. Anime in the background is this weeks Bleach. Kenpachi going to town on an Arrancar.

Meh. How do you write about depression without sounding like a bit of a whiney woe is me emo type? How do you get the message across to people that just don't get it? The past week has been really meh. There are good moments with friends. I have a laugh, enjoy things but after I'm dead. Its been a hard week with all the fighting and negative comments on forums. Sure there aren't a great deal of them but for me 1 negative comment at the wrong time outways everything I've ever done. Its stupid. Its annoying. Its just the way I am and I have to wait it out before I get back to work. Someone will say something bad and it'll get to me, and then I'll recall everything bad this week and it all gets to me. Then I think about everything else thats bad and that gets to me. Its dominoes. I can flip like a switch and I'm gone. I have no way back. I don't just cheer up and while I appreciate everyones nice comments all I can do is wait. Its not just feeling down. Its feeling numb, empty, pointless, worthless, rubbish, broken. Thing is, this isn't even a bad day.
Awww pete :( I don't know what to say apart from depression is an evil thing and it switches on when you least expect it, life can be hard enough with the ups and downs without the helping hand of depression.
I really hope you start feeling better soon xx
Week 3 - I've got love for you if you were born in the 80's
Both me and my car are 80's children. I was cleaning it with much gusto this morning when that song came on the radio and it's been stuck in my head all day! Anyway, I bought some new wheels for my old girl last week and they've been fitted. This weekend, she's been lowered and I've put hours of elbow grease into getting her gleaming. Pretty good job, even if I do say so myself. Not bad for a £350 car :D

Nice shot Kate, you love that car, and it shows!
*hugs* Pete. You know where I am x
Yesterday's shot is another from the cemetery. The light was really pretty.

Feeling better today thanks to everyones nice comments yesterday and some sleep. Spent some time reading a few HDR discussions. Same old silly comments. I think the worst offender is the way people see HDR as something outside of normal photography. It think its a bit dangerous to do so. HDR is no different to RAW. Its a way of getting more detail out of your photos. HDR, B&W, colour, lomo, are all ways of getting the end result. Its all photography. The sooner people simply accept it as a photographic technique and move on the better. If you don't, well I have a gun. I will end you.

You look errrrr special in that photo Pete :p
Nice one Pete, glad you feel better today. IMO HDR is just another method of photographing something, no more no less.
Kate, great shot, car looking fabulous.
18th January
I lifted things and drilled things today. Rah! Need a bath.

Great pic, Kitten. You're right, the light is very pretty. Very serene shot, I like it. :)
Pete - Glad to hear that you're feeling better today. That looks like someone else's hand. Quite spooky!
Vix - I fully concur with that feeling. Just wish we had a bath... well... one which was plumbed in anyway :D
Thanks for the comments on the car pic :) Kitten - you're right, I do love it :) I bought it as a stop-gap, but I can't see me ever wanting to get rid of it now. It's grown on me.
Nice shot vix, makes me want a bath :)
A sad day for children of all ages.

Lostkat - I'm in love with that car. Always have been. Yours looks fantastic in that shot too.
Pete - Sorry to hear about how you're feeling at the moment, I've been reading but not commented, it's a real shame and whilst I don't think it will help to tell you to avoid any negative comments, and I don't heed my own advice because it upsets me over the most stupid things on OcUK too, I don't like thinking I've upset people, but from everything I've seen you post you've been nothing but brilliant, helpful, polite and kind. Oh, and your photo's are great too, the second one raising a laugh :). *man hugs*.
Kitten - Love the cemetery, very nice and a mix of moody and pretty, but a graveyard and then the death of Tony Hart... bit morbid :p. Love the simplicity of the second one though.
I know, I've a much happier shot lined up for tomorrow. There's something about 'gloomy' stuff that has a strange kind of beauty to me, I don't know what it is. I think I like the contrast of something that should be miserable looking pretty :)

I agree, it is beautiful, gloom and gothic make for fascinating imagery. Some of the best photo's I've ever seen are of stuff that could come out of a horror movie :p.

SNOW! We got some snow. Totally randomly. Edinburger got a blizzard and then so did we. Only about 30 mins of it but really thick stuff. The good kind. Times like this that I wish I lived 5 minutes from Liverpool city center instead of 30. I wanna be there on Bold Street getting the action shots. Also the 14-24 really isn't a snow lens. Its covered instantly due to the front of the lens. I tried smiling but I felt a little silly standing outside my house trying for a snowy self portrait.
We had a bleeding tropical storm in Leicestershire! I want snow dammit :(
Great shot Pete. Ironically I was in Waterstones buying your book when the snow started and I had to walk around for 40 minutes freezing cold, getting pelted by HUUUGE snowflakes and trying to avoid some random disaster happening to this book! :p
I then spent the entire afternoon sat in soaking wet clothes (had to take off my shoes and socks - had to put plastic bags over my feet when I put the boots back on :/). Just glad I took today's shot early on or I'd not have got it at all!
Anyway, today's shot: 190109 : You ain't seen me, right?

OK - so I've been looking at this for ages now and can't see what it is.
Do tell!!!
I think I might be able to see an ear :)
Totally uninspired today. Really having to think about today's pic!
how about an eye vix?? Bit further down, to the right :D
Yep, seen the eye now. It's like a magic eye picture, the more you stare the more you see :)
19th January. I have said the word 'cold' more than any other word today. But glass is easier to photograph than ice!

that's lovely Vix, love the colours
Here's the original colour version for anyone having trouble finding Little Miss Trouble ;)

Oh dear :D

I see a KITTAH :D:D
Hahaha, BRILLIANT shot Kitten. I love it :D Took me a while to work out who the hell it was :D
Pete - Love the snowy pic. That fisheye really does do strange things to the shape of your head sometimes ;D
Vix - That actually looks like quite a warm pic because of the background. Nice contrast with the cold "ice" :)
Thanks Kate. I'd have preferred the whole pic to look cold, but the only spotlight I have casts a yellowy light.
Hahaha, BRILLIANT shot Kitten. I love it :D Took me a while to work out who the hell it was :D
I thought it was part cat part box. Some kind of clever hybrid that allowed for easy cat storage.

Its not technically fisheye, just wide angle distortion and yer it does make me look a little odd. Less odd than the Sigma 10-20 on my Canon though. This one really stretches my head.
20th Jan.
Was offered a job as a tutor today, so I'm trying to perfect my 'teacher look'. Perhaps I should also learn how to use the timer on my camera ;)

Nice one Vix, I'd certainly sit up and listen :D

My word, has it only been 20 days :/ I can’t believe there’s like 340-odd more pictures to take before the year is out. I think this 365 is one of those things that seemed like a good idea ‘at the time’ :D
Today’s photo is something I spotted when taking some shots of the Ark Royal yesterday - then promptly forgot about until I went back to see if it was really there or if it was a dream!!

21st Jan - been baking. The buns are wobbly so the icing sugar swims everywhere, but I believe they taste nice ;)

210109 : A new chapter
This morning, a new chapter begins as Barack Obama wakes up to his first day as President of the United States of America.
Black and white seemed appropriate :)

Obama's inauguration in Liverpool. I felt it was an important event for the world, not just America. I wanted to document it in some way and there was a party in Toxteth so I went along. It was packed out and a great thing to document. So much support for the guy.

Eugh taxes. Not doing well on the organisational side of freelancing. So I've lost 2 months statements. Theres just too much junk in my room. My life, my work, my rest. All in one room. There are no options until I can move out. Crappy paperwork.

Really loving that Obama photo Pete. Don't know why, I just do. :)
22nd Jan. Got home from work, had tea and realised I hadn't done a picture yet. Went to the river but it was a little too dark, however found this rather well lit monument!

Week 3.
I'm busy 'learning' how to do a petty cash book. It took me about 20mins to understand what we were being taught but I've had to suffer three 2hr sessions on it now, with another week's worth to come as annoyingly the tutor's decided to postpone our exam a week so that others that didn't bother turning up for the first three weeks of term can catch up. I'm out of mock papers to do now so who knows what I'll be doing next week ;D
http://www.halycopter.com/images/52/jan3.jpg
Nice pics people :D
Another mobile shot from today I'm afraid. I did have something else in mind but it hasn't worked out as well as i'd hoped (bad light and not really able to manage it with the N95 :p), so I'm going to go back over the weekend and hopefully catch it then instead.
So this one's just another from the waterfront. It's a bit too noisy for my liking, but I guess a phone can only do so much! Boy it was chilly tonight.
