Consider my nads oficially pumped.

I assume more content gets added over time so I'll certainly be checking back every now and again. I've no doubt it wil be awesome.

Can't wait for this. Except I still need to buy another copy of Bioshock, having lost my CD key for the first one and never completed it :( Hoping for another Steam sale.

Never forget dropping into the sea the first time round and seeing the water effects, and then again as the water crashed through the tunnel. One of those seminal gaming moments.

Me either. I sat there for a minute, I thought I was still watching a cutscene!

Only ever happened to me on 3 games, Silent Hill 2 on the PS2, Splinter Cell: Double Agent on Xbox360 and Bioshock on Xbox360. Amazing.

Bloody loved Bioshock. If Bioshock2 is anything like as good we are in for a good game! :D

I'm in the minority that thought Bioshock wasn't that great. It had all the makings of a fantastic game but the combat just ruined it for me. I played the game on medium and by the end was so buffed up i could kill a heavy with a wrench. I would have restarted the game on hard, but to be honest i had grown bored of the whole thing, fights were nearly all identical, i can't quite put my finger on exactly what was wrong but it just didn't feel 'right' to me. The infinite free respawns were also a bit of a strange addition. The whole game felt like System Shock 2 dumbed down for the masses, inventory was infinite, money and 'adam' were plentiful and enemies weren't as fierce (on normal again).

That said, the art direction, atmosphere, graphics, storyline and sound were a cut above, it's just a shame the gameplay didn't appeal to me. If they improve on the problems i outlined above in the sequel while keeping the games merits intact it will instantly become one of the greatest games ever in my eyes.

Best moment for me was the first encounter with a little sister in the theatre ... and then the big daddy pummelling the splicer. I genuinely winced.

Or perhaps Sander Cohen waltzing down the stairs to admire his masterpiece letting off fireworks and clearly nuttier than a crate of Sunpat.

The whole game felt like System Shock 2 dumbed down for the masses,

That's what happens when the big money is made on XBOX and PS3 games sales.:p

Is this is as good as the original, I expect I'll get very little sleep the weekend it comes out, as I remember completing the first one before the weekend was finished, and I loved every minute of it. Must go through it again actually, when Leo eventually gives it me back :p

I'm quietly looking forward to this, but I hope they do something new rather than just re-hash the first game.

I loved the art direction and atmosphere of the first game, it was creepy and scary without falling into horror stereotypes. One great bit that springs to mind was seeing a bunch of frozen splicers behind me, assuming they were 'set decoration' and then clocking that they were following me around when I wasn't looking

Would you kindly...

Pumpkinstew

Would you kindly...

I've just got past that bit. Splicers have now got into the habit of pretending to be corpses before jumping up and screaming something creepy at me.

What's scarier? A houdini splicer zhooping around the room while you spin in circles trying to catch the stard or a spider splicer dropping on you from the ceiling?

Belmit
11-03-2009, 15:08
Spider, especially when you can't get the angle right as they head towards you, and every shot misses... then they drop.

NokkonWud
11-03-2009, 15:54
Yeah. I must admit, I totally sharted when I was underneath the clothes store in the water and a Splicer moved.

My god, it's like slimline ninja Big Daddy!

I love how the internet allows for this kind of buildup and hype, almost to the point where I wish I hadn't seen that picture and that I'd learned more from the teaser site first (assuming the pic is genuine). Anticipation is often as good as the payoff.

Don't read this (http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/bioshock2/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-48569865&pid=945380&tag=topics;title) (in the Xbox forum - it is coming out on PC as well, right?) or this (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15103546&postcount=679) if you don't want spoilers. Both have information from GameInformer magazine and include some pretty interesting tidbits on how the new game is going to go.
If you can't be bothered to read through, the main thrust is...

You play as a Big Daddy (the first Big Daddy ever created) and get to use his drill and gun (along with some plasmids), and your aim is to collect Little Sisters (hence the one on back of the Big Daddy earlier in this thread). Also, a 'grown up' Little Sister is now the ruler of Rapture and is your main antagonist.

This (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=210345) is a good read :)

EDIT: Maybe spoliers!

Read something today that suggested there would be multiplayer this time round.

Am I the only one to be slightly disappointed by this. I want no distractions from the single player story!

Yeah, I probably won't be playing it unless it offers something new which the myriad multiplayer games available at the moment don't. Also hope it doesn't focus their development away from the single player, which was polished to perfection in the original.

Haly
16-03-2009, 21:23
Same here. I doubt I'll play the multiplayer much so I'd much rather a very strong single player but hopefully that will still be the case :)

Daz
16-03-2009, 21:39
Multiplayer could mean co-op campaign I suppose... not sure how I'd feel about that either :D

Nowt wrong with a top class single player romp, though I guess they've lost some commercial appeal, at least this generation. Not least because of the pre-owned market.

Can people continue to use the spoiler tags for anything related to the specific game details please? I'm sure in the coming months it'll be almost impossible to avoid but I want to try and know as little about the story as possible before I play it. The spoiler tags and posting just the links so far has been great. :) Cheers.

This effectively means you can call Belmit every name under the sun in this thread, and as long as you use spoiler tags he'll never know ;)

I have a dirty secret.

I got this delivered from Shopto because of the hype and I'd forgotten that I wasn't all that keen on the first one, turns out after a couple of hours I'm not really getting into this one either. I don't know why, I usually like this type of game, I think there is a bit of a mismatch in the mechanics, the action is fast-ish but the searching dead bodies for stuff really gets in the way, I also get frustrated in the first one because I missed tape recorders and didn't want to do another play through.

The fact I'm a massively powerfull Big Daddy in this one yet some skinny **** can take me out with a spanner is a bit daft IMHO

Yeah, but, you have a ****ing massive drill for an arm!

So far that's been my highlight of the first two levels. Zap with the leccy and then pile in and start excavating. ;D

I completed this today and without wanting to give anything away, I thought it certainly lived up to its prequel in terms of quality.
