Today I was inked. Yay!

Obviously it's brand new so it's a bit raw, but here goes...

http://ocukroguesgallery.com/feek/temp/tatt-20090316-151656.png

The round bit is round and the curves are symmetrical where they're supposed to be, the camera was being held at a bit of an angle and my arm was flexed.

I'm really pleased with it, the only part that hurt was when he did the outline with what he called a 'tight three' but once that was done and he started shading then it was just a tickle really.

As I left, both the guy and his wife confidently called "see you again". What do they know that I don't? ;D

Nice one.. How long - One sitting?

You will go back ;)

Feek
16-03-2009, 17:01
Yup, one sitting of two and a half hours and I had a numb bum by the time he'd completed the tattoo. The time absolutely flew by though, he was very chatty and I just totally lost track of the time.

Not a fan of tattoos I'm afraid but I will say that I'm glad it all went well and looks how you want it to, can't ask for more than that. :)

Looks good there Mr Feek :)

Also the outline usually hurts more as it's done with a fine needle and the colouring is done using the "big fluffy needles" as our tattooist calls them :)

Glad it went well and that you like the result :)

Pretty much the same here. Hope the after-effects don't last too long.

Oh forgot to mention, follow the aftercare regime religiously. I didn't and ended up with an infection, which is thankfully all gone now.

I'm trying to, keeping it clean (washing with antibacterial soap) and rubbing Tattoo Goo (http://tattoogoo.com/TG-101-110-tins.php) into it. It's started peeling a bit today, like a mild sunburn.

Tak
19-03-2009, 22:27
Never used the stuff although I know a few people who have. My method is cling film over the tat, changing it several times a day for 3 days and vasaline intensive care cream for anything up to a few weeks

Feek
19-03-2009, 22:30
I asked about that, having heard about the cling film trick. His answer was that 'if you fell over and grazed your knee, would you wrap it in cling film?'. It didn't even have a dressing on it when I left, just a thin coating of the Goo.

Everyone has their own ways, I'm sure they all work.

Guys round here suggest using one of the creams they sell in Lush.

My personal preference is bepanthen which is a nappy rash cream, soothes itching and moisturises. The main advice i've been given is treat it like a graze don't do anything you wouldn't do to a normal wound.
My sister is terrible at looking after tattoos she has had numerous infections, I don't know how she does it. When I was getting my back done I had almost permanent healing for the best part of 5 months and not even a hint of any problems.
I'm looking into getting another tattoo hopefully during the summer :)

If I'm not mistaken my rubbing skills were utilised during your healing process :)

Wrapping it in clingfilm sounds wrong, it's your skin, not leftover chicken.

Fayshun
20-03-2009, 21:21
I can see the thought behind use of clingfilm in more open wounds like burns but not tats/grazes.

Tak
20-03-2009, 23:18
The idea with cling film is that if you knock a scab off it can end up making the tat patchy/faded in places. If you don't allow the tat to scab (by using the cling film) then you're reducing the risk of it scabbing and possibly ending up with patchy work.
As said before, people have different recommendations on how to look after a fresh tat and as long as it works that is all that really matters :)

20-03-2009, 23:28
I'm liking the tat more and more. :)

When it starts to itch a spoonful of pyratin does wonders!

I also used baby wash to clean it and always dabbed it with kitchen roll when I came out the shower. There's so many different ways to look after tattoos. As long as it doesn't get infected you're doing ok :)

Jhadur

Tats also tend to dry out quickly (as the body heals it creates heat) so having them wrapped in cling film keeps the moisture next to the skin so that scabs don't form.

If you do get scabs form Mr Feek then DO NOT pick at them as you will lose colour from the tat and it will end up very patchey.

I used to cover my arms with cling film when I had really bad excema/dermatitis, it was slightly different as part of the problem was me absent mindedly scratching in my sleep but it did help it heal up faster.

Freshly washed after fifteen minutes or so to air dry before applying the Tattoo Goo

http://ocukroguesgallery.com/feek/temp/dry-20090321-163527.png

And here it is a couple of minutes later with Goo - I need to teach LMF how to hold a camera perpendicular and straight!

Coming along nicely :)

The Hubbsta is a mental scab picker and so he has lots of patches on his tat.

What are you using as goo Feek ?

I used Bepanthen I got my tattoo extended last year whci is used for nappy rash. I also used cling film over it for the first couple of days. :D

It didn't scab at all.
