Heard about this yesterday and followed all the news from OK!, Time Out, CNN and WWTDD. It's a shame, she was impossibly nice and I fell in love with her accent in this years Top Chef.
Real shame :(.
Makes you wonder how some arse who wants to die, throws himself off Niagra falls and lands like he's made of pillows, then fights with those trying to rescue him. You get Amy Winehouse who pops pills and shoots heroin like it's going out of fashion and nothing happens, then you get a massively popular actress and broadway star who is a massive pusher of charities and foundations and an innocuous bump on the head results in her tragic death, happens.
Very sad - such a tragic accident :(

Just not fair is it. It was only the other week I was thinking about how long they'd been married which is unusual for the typical celebrity world they've managed to not be a part of.
Absolutely devatsating for her family :(

An absolutely unbelievable freak accident - awful for Liam Neeson and their two sons.
I heard Graham Bell (Ski Sunday & High Altitude) say today that he didn't agree that adults should wear helmets while skiing and two people from The Ski Club of Great Britain have said the same - complete, utter idiots.

Wasn't she OK though at the time of the accident and went on to develop the subsequent injury that killed her or have I misunderstood?
Awful beyond words :(
Her poor family. Going to be an extremely difficult time for them for a very long time to come :( Made all the worse by the media coverage.

Head injuries should always be seen to ASAP as at first you can have little/no symptoms :(

Agreed - that's why protective headgear is essential for so many things. People don't really take, for example, concussion seriously enough; but it can of course be very serious.
It must be terrible for them all though - to lose her because of such a freak accident :(

Yup, essential.
Just read she has 2 sons, 12 and 13. Jesus.

She banged her head, but laughed it off and said she was fine, an hour later she started feeling really ill and was then rushed to hospital. She fell into critical condition and became brain dead all in a very short matter of time.

Tragic :(
My thoughts go out to her 2 sons & the rest of her family.

One of the kids when I was working at a primary school went skiing with his dad and older sister. The Dad fell over, but seemed fine at the time. Kids found him dead next morning, was a virtually identical thing to this, and just shows why you should always always get head injuries checked.
:(
R.I.P. Natasha.
Just heard this on the news :(
How incredibly sad :(

The normal rule in head injuries is that if there is no impaired consciousness at the time, there should be nothing to worry about. Natasha Richardson is the – desperately unlucky – exception. Even minor blows to the head can be lethal.
She had been skiing with an instructor on a "green" run, the easiest, when the accident happened. She was not wearing a helmet but there was no collision and it does not appear that any other skier was involved. She was reported to be laughing and joking after the accident, refused medical care and returned to her hotel room. Only later did she request help, an ambulance was called and she was taken to hospital.
Her condition has not been confirmed but it is likely she has suffered an extradural haematoma, a bleed in the brain that occurs when an artery is ruptured. The brain is like a blancmange inside the wooden box of the skull and a blow to the head can sever a blood vessel with relative ease.
Minor bleeds should resolve naturally but a major bleed creates a pool of blood between the meninges, the membranes that surround the brain, that presses on the brain causing a severe headache. Unless this pressure is relieved, it may lead to permanent brain damage, coma and death.
Neurologists routinely warn patients who come to hospital with head injuries that even though they appear unharmed – being fully conscious and walking around – they must return urgently if they get a headache, start vomiting or feel unwell over the next few hours.
Emergency treatment, which involves drilling a hole through the skull to drain the blood and relieve the pressure, is lifesaving and can prevent permanent damage. But it must be carried out quickly if it is to be effective. Delay can be deadly. (The Independent (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/as-her-family-held-vigil-she-slipped-quietly-away-1648396.html))It seems that she reported suffering a splitting headache an hour after her fall and yet still couldn't be saved.

That's horrible :(
RIP, and condolences to her two kids and Liam especially!
I hope I don't sound odd, but I always find it weird when actors play similar roles to those events that happen in real life aka Love Actually.

I thought the same last night. Unfortunately for him, it's far from realistic (not that a Richard Curtis film should be :p) so going to be an exceptionally tough time for him and the kids.

Incredibly sad and tragic but reading this:
Richardson initially showed no sign of injury but about an hour later she was taken to a nearby hospital after feeling unwell. It was later confirmed her injuries were critical.
it sounds like maybe she had some kind of underlining health problem.
This incidient aside for a moment, it's the choice we all make when deciding to take on any dangerous persuits.

It looks like it caused a haemorrage Huddy. I've not seen any reports that give the impression she was already bad or had any bad health problems (by all accounts she was in incredibly good condition).
It appears to be more of a freak occurance than anything, it's a shame it's happened to a good person.
I have to admit I had to Google who she was :/ and find out what films she was in.
Really awful news though.

Impossibly sad. A true lady.

She's above your usual calibre of "Celeb" who will turn up to the opening of an envelope wearing a thong.

Anyone dying at that age leaving kids behind is sad. Anyone dying full stop is sad. She was a talented actress but I'm sure there are lots of other talented people in their own fields of work/life that die at the same age or younger every day in this country and throughout the world.
May I ask why the UK seems to be obsessed with the deaths of celebrities? Is it an outlet for our guilt?

May I ask why the UK seems to be obsessed with the deaths of celebrities? Is it an outlet for our guilt? What would you suggest? A response of "Yeah, whatever."?
I think that a far more interesting question would be why people in general (not just in the UK) seem to be obsessed with the lives of celebrities?
What would you suggest? A response of "Yeah, whatever."?
Even 'Joe Public' gets a mention in the paper these days if there is a stabbing/car crash etc so why shouldn't they?

That's pretty much my response to the deaths of the majority of celebs. I really could care less but it'd require effort I don't want to make.
Mind you, I'm a heartless b'stard.

LOL! Yes that's probably a better way of putting it thanks. Why are we so obsessed with the celebs?

Not generally on national news though and there are so many of them these days I'm sure only high profile ones come to the fore.
It's all this outpouring of grief for someone somebody didn't know that gets me. I can understand friends of e.g. a 16 year old who has died from whether it's leukemia or being stabbed piling up floors in some place but why do we do this for celebs we didn't even know?
