Just started making these to boost my protein intake and make sure I manage to get some food in me whilst working .. all I can say is yummor !!
I mix up :-
Milk ( atm this is s/s but will swap to skimmed next time we go shopping )
Fruit ( tomorrow's one is strawberries, bananas & raspberries )
Oats
Fat Free Fromage Frais
1 scoop protein powder
Teensy bit of sweetner ( most people probably won't need it but I have a sweet tooth )
Bingo, bango, bongo .. nice protein rich, healthy meal replacement :D
I have half as my mid morning snack and half as my afternoon snack. Because I'm so busy at work I don't have to worry about faffing around with food. Just grab it out of the fridge and job done
Sounds awesome! Do you blend it at work or before you leave?
Hmmm a good pint of that would be damned nice. How big are the measures?
I'm addicted to Nairns oatcakes at the moment - eating loads of those with tuna, peanut butter, mackerel, hummous, etc... I get through 2 packs a week :o
However I like the idea of a smoothie like that!

I make it up the night before and pop it in the fridge :)
I haven't been measuring it, I make enough for a shaker full and split it into 2 meals.
I'll try and meausure it tomorrow :D
Oh ok, so about a pint's worth? It's just the consistency I guess has to be runny enough to drink but a bit thicker? Just curious to how many oats etc.. you put in. I really want one! When the rugby season is over, can I come over and play and you can make me one?! :D Pwetty pwease?! :D

Sounds jolly tasty. I'll be getting some protein powder and oats for next time I'm out on the rig. Breakfast, lunch and dinner aren't too bad but trying to get a proper balanced meal in between is nigh on impossible so, for those days I simply can't manage proper food, I'll have shakes to fall back on.
Nairns oatcakes rawk, I love them to bits :D

I measured it out tonight !
All measured in the shaker
Oats - up to 200ml mark
Milk - 300ml
Fat Free From Frais - 2 tblsp
1 scoop protein powder
1 Banana
6/8 raspberries
3 strawberries
1tsp sweetner
YUM YUM !
Will, you'll have to pop round for a weekend of pumping da iron when you've finished chasing the eggs :D
Stan, I hope you enjoy it, it's so easy to make the day before and pop it in the Fridge. I'm so busy I work I struggle with my mid morning or mid afternoon snacks but with this shake it's really easy :)
And the good thing is...it's made from FOOD. When people see a shake they automatically think of it as something not as good as food, but this IS food, just mushed down a bit ;D
I need to get a blender. That looks too good!!!!
Swap the sweetner with cinnamon!! :D
As for the a weekend of pumping iron, you bet yer ass!
I'm just having some of mine now :D
Mine is chocolate though and without the fruit in it. Doesn't quite taste as nice though so need to experiment a little I think.

Another convert, Monsieur Will :D
Just tucking in to my modified version now :D
Oats, Choc Protein, Skimmed Milk and Cinnamon. Once you get past the thing of drinking some mush, it actually tastes nice.
Sounds tasty! Cinnamon would be a good addition as well as said. Maybe some nutmeg.... I'm getting hungry now.
One scoop (25g) of protein powder (I'm assuming that you mean whey protein) isn't that much protein, only a bit more than one egg. 300ml of milk contains around 10g of protein as well, but, personally, I'd put in another scoop. it does depend on how much protein you are getting in the rest of your day though.

Hey Ben :)
I have good protein sources through my meals during the day as well as a PWO shake so protein intake should be ok.
Going on a 12 week mega cut soon so I'll start properly adding up the macros.... that's going to be fun :/
I was feeling adventurous, so I just made the smoothie/drink that I thought up yesterday:
2x wheetabix : 127kcal 4.3g protein
2x low fat yoghurt pots (125g ea): 225kcal 9.8g protein (i used pineapple, mm)
200ml skimmed milk: 69kcal 6.8g protein
1 scoop whey: 98kcal 20.5g protein
total: 41.4g protein
519 kcal
all in a blender, give it a few buzzes (to keep texture)
it's gooood. the wheetabix give it a nice texture, and the pineapple/ wheetabix flavour is ace :)
it's quite thick, so I might add more milk next time.... maybe just one bix.

That sounds yummy !
Mine is usually as follows...
Oats - Up to the 200ml marker in the shaker, 2 scoops of protein, dash of cinnamon. Chuck that lot in the blender and then add 500ml of skimmed milk. Blend to hell and you're done :)
I've not gone through as to how much protein/carb/fat there is as it's just a top up drink to have during the day. Half mid-morning, other half mid-afternoon.
piggymon does this not have loads of horrible bits in it from the oats and rasberries

?
Of course it has bits (horrible bits?! what?!). Rasberries have seeds and oats are flakes and will be crunchy - what's your point?
I drink smoothies nearly every day, I get nothing stuck in my teeth, and if there are a few bits that don't blend well, you just chew on them - you know, like you do when you eat food usually?
You're a very odd person I must say.
Blend them a bit longer, seeds will get chopped up and flakes will get smaller.
Alternatively use a sonicator instead of a blender.
Texture is nice in a smoothie, I like having a bit of crunch to mine. :)
No it doesn't. It's very nice.
Sense this thread does not make now. ;)
There's a decent deal at one of the shops in L'pool St station, a decent size portion of porridge with forest fruits and/or honey, with a Bite Card (20% off!) it works out at £1.44 or something which is awesome as I never have time in the mornings, getting up early enough to go for a swim pre-work is bad enough :p
I have a fair-sized tub of chocolate-flavoured whey protein knocking round, wondering whether to shove a scoop in the porridge and mix it up for chocolatey proteiny porridge goodness :p Either that or might pick up some nuts or something to shove in..should be alright I reckon :)
I've been told to start on the protein shakes now I'm teaching so much and have to say the one I've got is fab! I just mix 1 scoop with a smoothie drink of pure fruit and it tastes like a liquidised fruit crumble in a glass! Om nom nom!
I haven't managed to wake SPW up yet with my morning smoothies so long may they continue! :D I get 4 of my 5 a day alone in my smoothies! About 800cals too, and about 40g of protein.
I've got to say I've already noticed a difference in how fast I'm recovering and was strong like bull in class yesterday!

When your body has been starved of protein, the sudden surplus does get absorbed like a sponge. Just wish it kept doing it! :D
Liar, you're not shocked at all!
