Advice for a new TV

Im thinking of getting a new TV in the next couple of weeks. In the main this will be used for

Sky HD, PlayStation 3 and X360 in that order. I usually sit about 6ft-8ft away from the screen. My question is, will a 40" screen be too big ? Im kind of stuck where I can by it from so the best price may not be an option for me. However I have been looking at This (http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/501484/SAMSUNG-LE40A686M1FXXU) Bad Boy. Is this likeley to be overkill for what I need or could I get a bigger bang for my buck with a different screen ?

If you're watching HD content, 40" or even bigger will be fine. Ironically, it's the non-HD stuff that tends to look bad if the ratio between the TV size and viewing distance is wrong. I think there's some recommendations on the ideal ratio on AVForums.

One thing I've found since buying my TV is that the size, which I originally thought would be over the top, is nothing special now. So my advice is to go large :)

I used to sit closer than that to a 42" TV in the old house and it was fine. If you can afford it into your budget, get a Sony. Some of the pictures I've seen on Sony's blow Samsungs out the water and Blu-Rays are just phenomenal.

My parents use a 42" Sony KDEP42XS1 Plasma which is now, sadly, showing its age, but even after 4, or maybe 5 years, can't remember now, its picture on SkyHD is still better than any Samsung I've used.

I have been thinking about the Sony range but in comparison to other brands they do seem to command a high price for the same features. Don't get a lot of love on AV Forums either :confused:

Yeah, but I've seen crap TV's, like mine, get a lot of praise on there. :p.
I think I'm fairly known for being critical of Sony in the past, but I can't fault their Bravia range (barring the most recent errors). The only TV's I've seen live with them are Pioneer, sadly they've dropped from the market. I don't think Panasonic are as good as they were either (in terms of pushing the envelope).

We sit about 6-8ft away and I think our 40" is just about right in size :)
