Seems my 360 doesn't like me anymore :(
It keeps crashing while trying to play RE5 and I get the error message E71 :'(

E71: possibly a dashboard update error, Check below in the "Console Reset Codes" for instructions. If that does not work there is no other solution and the console must be sent back to MS for repair.
--==Console Reset Codes==--
Clear All Installed Game Updates and Console Cache
Go to the "system" blade
Select "memory"
Press Y on the HD symbol
Press X,X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X
A message will appear saying: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"
Select Yes
Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error.
With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)
While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console
Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.
During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.

Try the bit under 'Console reset codes' (assuming you haven't already).
Edit - too slow, but I do have an excuse (Xbox n00b).

Didn't work still crashes :( I'm not getting the error any more though. Even tried GTAIV, game loaded pressed forward on the analogue stick and it crashed :(

Sounds like dying hardware. My first one died of E74 after a forum member here killed my Xbox360. (They still owe me something!)
I think your Xbox360 will be going to the big BBQ in the sky. Contact MS if it's still in warranty.

Not under warranty, was manufactured in November 2006 I think.

Gonna have to try and cook it then to get the RRoD.

yeah I suppose it might be worth doing that at some point as since it's knackered worse I'll have to pay for it to be fixed.

Seems the general pattern is crashing -> RROD so I'll keep using it this week and hope for RROD ;D

Sorted. Back it goes then. Hope they do a good job repairing it. :)
First person I know that's with the RRoD :)
