An unusual question maybe, but strangely enough it's one I can answer with extreme accuracy.

For me it was Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms.

Bought on the 11th September 1985 @ 14:58 from Parrot Records in the Harvey Centre, Harlow.

It cost £8.99. I know all this because the receipt is in the case with the disc!

And I didn't own a CD player (but my brother did).

So what was the first CD you bought?

Now that's a classy first CD :) I had the misfortune to be born later, and therefore my first CD was Scatman's World by Scatman John. Ba bo bay.

Lost in the mists of time I'm afraid, but I can't fault your choice (I have that CD, though I think I got mine second hand).

Gong - Angels Egg, from a record shop with grey bags on the High street in Liverpool. The actual name of the place escapes me.

Gong - Angels Egg ...A most excellent choice

The 1st CD I ever bought was "Back in the high life" by Stevie Winwood - a gift because I didn't have a CD player either.

Mine could have been the same as Feek's - although it could also have been Michael Jackson's Thriller

Brothers in Arms was my 3rd CD :) Although later than that.

First was Queen Greatest Hits 1&2 box set, and second was Police Greatest Hits

Was circa 1992

Babylon Zoo "The Boy With The X-Ray Eyes".:o

Didn't get into Dire Straits until several years ago when I realised the album "On Every Street" which I'd had for years was actually damn good. I still rank it higher than Brothers In Arms.

Buggered if I know

I think it "might" have been Inflammable Material by Stiff Little Fingers but I can't be sure. I had the vinyl LP but when I wanted to move up to CDs, I bought the CD version. If I bought any other CDs before that, I can't remember.

I have a strange feeling it was a gift for my sister in the form of 1977 by Ash :)

My sisters tastes in music have changed and I've been hooked ever since :D

Genesis - Live - The Way We Walk Volume One: 'The Shorts' is a great album! :D
Recently bought the 3 box sets they have produced - not cheap, but well worth it for the albums in 5.1

Ditto. I can't quite remember the name of the store, but I could drop a google earth placemark right on it.

Bought the CD the day it came out.

Well, I'm going to REALLY prove how old I am when I tell what the first MUSIC was that I bought...

"Black Water" by the Doobie Brothers on 45RPM single...

I can remember the first tapes I bought, not the first CD... Erm, probably an Eric Clapton one, or some classical music.

First CD I bought was Suzanne Vega 99.9F° from the imaginitively named 'CD Centre' on the day I bought my first CD player in early '93

I've even still got that CD player wired up in the living room although it never gets used.

Mid 70's? I've just been thinking as to the first vinyl I bought. I'm ashamed to say it was probably Little Jimmy Osmond "Long Haired Lover from Liverpool" in 1972. I was six!

Kaiowas, I retired my first CD player after a trip to the Science Museum a few years ago when they had the same model on display. I decided I didn't want to be using a museum piece any more!

I'm sure that's the one Raymond Baxter played a jam and coffee smeared CD in on Tomorrows World, back in 18-canteen

Mid 70's?

Yup, it was either that or Pink Floyd The Wall. Can't remember which. But it was in 1974. You've got me beat by 2 years, BTW. I was 6 in 1974..

Can't remember the first CD I bought but I can remember the first vinyl.

Kings of the Wild Frontier - Adam and the Ants (first album and first single)

Paid 75p for the single and £5.50 for the album I think it was. :)

Michael Jackson, HIStory: Past, Present and Future. ****ing good stuff. Worryingly i think the next thing i bought with my own money, since i never really got pocket money as a kid, my parents just bought me the odd thing now and then and i can't count that, was probably Spice Girls - Wannabe ;D. After that pretty much i downloaded everything from there on, hit napster pretty hard as a young-un and as everyone who knows me well knows i've never really looked back!

I think the first 12" I bought was either White Lines by Melle Mel and Grandmaster Flash or the theme from Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. (I may even have bought them together).

The first album I bought was Somewhere in Time by Iron Maiden.

Ooh, 1984. The year of my first "mix tape". In other words a tape of the top 100 of the year copied off the radio

Mind you, I never figured out what white lines was going on about until about 5 years ago... :o

Oh the days of taping off the Radio. TDK AR90s were my tape of choice. Scrabbling to turn it over so you don't miss anything. ;D

The Offspring - Americana

Looking back, not the worst start to music a kid could have, however my music taste has changed drastically since those days.
