*turns on the lights*
Morning! Just wondered if anyone else is up watching the GP? I'm in a thread in the 'other' place, but wondered if anyone here was around :)
It's only 7 in the evening here, but it appears if it's not Indy 500 or NASCAR, they're not interested in showing it on TV :-/

Aye, especially I spose as there's no North American GP this year (bloody shame imo).
That's pretty much why there's no North American GP - no interest in it and therefore no money to be made.
I considered it, but my bed was better so I stayed there. :)
Funnily enough I was wide awake at 5. But forgot all about qualifying

I watched it. *along with FP1, 2 and 3*
The interesting stuff happened after qualifying. :D
Hamilton's gearbox = broken - so grid penalty there which drops him to 20th place.
Williams protest Ferrari and Red Bull's aero package *something to do with winglets*
Toyota disqualified from qualifying as they rear wing is too flexible. They will start from 19th and 20th if they can replace the rear wing with one that complies to the rules.
Nick Heidfeld - BMW - at 691.5kg
Robert Kubica - BMW - at 650kg
Hmmmm

Yeah, the fuel loads were interesting (though it does take something away from the race, knowing that). Good to see the Brawns aren't light.
Do I detect animosity between David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan?
Those brawn cars are stunning. was loving the crap commentary. Wasn't expecting the other cars to be so close to the brawns in q1. yeah that's because they were all running softs and brawn hards.
Will be pressing the red button for the race.

Apart from the paintjob...
Will be pressing the red button for the race.
Legard is almost worse than Allen was... I'll give him a little while during the race to see if he's any worse.
But Croft and Davidson are brilliant. :D
Hooray for red buttons (I believe that allows alternative commentary, which I will take advantage of if it does)

I was always in the group that liked Allen (it was a very lonely group). I think Croft and Davidson are brilliant, but I really like Brundle and the fact that Croft/Davidson are commentating for radio means that sometimes you'll see something on the screen they don't reference.
Still, it's all academic as I've been called into work for 8am tomorrow, so I'll have to record it :(

Am very excited about the prospects for this season!!!
Go Jenson tomorrow, will be up to watch it live as usual.
:D
I'm wondering who will throw the first punch, Eddie or David.
Apart from the paintjob...
 I really like it. So clean with no sponsors or fancy colour grading.

Glad I'm not the only one.

Just a bit, and best of all.....NO AD BREAKS!!! ;D
Oh man, Oh Man, Oh man.. what can I say;D (this hasn't got a big enough grin)..
Can we skip Monday - Thursday and go straight to next weekend.
I'll be watching the repeat then, I guess. Whenever it's on.

1pm.
Make sure you do, and those of us up early enough have managed not to spoil things for you as well.
I know the result anyway, so it wouldn't be a spoiler.
I'm so out of touch. They keep talking about some sort of system to provide extra power. What the hell are they on about? Do they assume everyone knows everything about GP? :dunno:

KERS, its like a boost button basically that gives them an extra bit of oompfh.
Was up at 6:45am this morning to watch the race. Leon had been up at 6am. Absolutely fantastic race. Exciting until the end and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Love the simple look of the Brawn cars, but I expect that the Virgin pimpage will be amplified when we see them again next week. It's so nice to see people other than Ferrari leading the pack :)

I think they assume you've at least been following F1. They can't explain everything in detail every time they talk about it. Anyway, you know how to use Google ;)

Yeah it'd be like in football, if they started explaining the offside rule every other minute ;D There'd never be any other commentary :D
Awesome.
Great day for Button and Hamilton and BrawnGP
Actually, one negative. Whoever was in control of the safety car today needs sacking.
Nakajima. It came out after about 3 laps, by which time most debris was gone, then it picked up in the wrong place because it was sent out behind Button yet carried on for 2 laps before sending the other cars past, so at pretty much ALL points of SC deployment there were cars travelling around the circuit at high-ish speed trying to get into the right place.
Appalling. No wonder Trulli overtook under the second one, it was almost as bad, I expect they had no idea where or what the SC was doing.

Eddie Jordan is insane!!!

Kinetic Energy Reclamation System, KERS. Not all teams bothered but will have to for next year. Cars have either a flywheel or a battery in them. Whenever they brake some of the energy is transferred into the storage, up to a maximum of 60kw, ready to give them a boost at the touch of a button later on. Tacticly it could be very interesting, aidin overtaking, blocking and so on, but if used at the wrong time could lead to disastrous loss of traction.
Tricky bit is it weighs maybe 70-80lb and the weight limit hasn't increased for the cars, so weight has to be shaved off elsewhere!
Brawn already have more points than Honda got in the whole of 2008! :D

Wheeeeee, just finished watching it (stupid work). Fantastic result. The sun seemed really bad tho - not sure if it was worse seeing as the camera was higher up, but coming through the bit with the trees you could barely see what was coming up.
Still, great race, and I was more impressed with the commentary today than last time. Roll on Malaysia!

Sad but they probably came very close to not being there, and so even with all the sponsorship and todays good performance they might have to for financial reasons.
I was up early to watch this (why did the clocks have to go forward this weekend!). Was definitely worth it, really pleased with the result. Nice to see the tables being turned and should make for a very interesting season.
For those who've missed it, the 2009 rule changes:

For those who've missed it, the 2009 rule changes:
http://www.formula1.com/inside_f1/rules_and_regulations/sporting_regulations/8692/I am particularly interested in:From 2009 onwards testing is not allowed during the race season (from the week prior to the first Grand Prix until December 31) and is limited to 15,000 kilometres. If the diffusers used on the Brawn, Toyota and Williams cars are ruled as being legal, all the other teams will want to introduce these asap - how they will effectively do this without track testing will be interesting to say the least

They'll still have the pre-qualifying sessions in which they could test it I guess.
Just started watching it now, 45 laps to go and wow what a huge dramatic change to the sport. The rules changes have had part of their desired impact with much more overtaking going on.

I believe they can do straight-line testing still, and of course quite a lot on the simulators. Still, it will make it harder (which can only be good news for Button).
Startled at the pace of the Red Bull though...imagine if that thing had a Brawn-style diffuser, it'd be unbeatable.
For those who've missed it
That'd be me. And thanks. :)
I honestly don't think the diffuser makes THAT much difference. It seems to have got blown up into 'omg diffuser = instant awesome speed' which I don't think is the case. Barrichello's got beaten into and so he says, pretty much completely broken and he didn't suddenly drop to the back.
The slower cars have much more fundamental issues than a diffuser design that need addressing to gain some speed.
Back to business as normal it seems. Hamilton has been excluded from the Australian GP - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7978186.stm
One thing I always hated about F1 was never knowing if the results announced at the end of the race would stand and on this occasion we've seen Hamilton bumped up a place a few hours after a race then then a few days after he gets excluded.
The circus is back in town.
I think the eventual decision is probably the correct one (assuming McLaren did indeed lie to the stewards) but the punishment is over the top and the fact this is even happening at all on THURSDAY after the race is an absolute joke.
I should point out that at the time I posted the link all it said was that Hamilton had been excluded and more information would follow.
But yeah, if they did lie then the decision is correct.

Whatever occured, its still bloody ridiculous that the FIA can keep interfering to the extent they do, why even bother having a race?
Governing bodies in other sports dont interfere anywhere near as much.

Now I don't know what to think tbh.
I just wish all this petty behind the scenes bull**** would **** off.
I just wish all this petty behind the scenes bull**** would **** off.
I'd love that to happen, but I think there's a snowballs chance in hell.
Yet again I wonder why I bother with F1.
Why don't we hear of similar things in other forms of racing? OK, I only really ever followed the bikes (Brit Supers, World Supers, GP), but I can't remember things like this happening all that often. Most of the drama happened on the day and then that was that.
F1 IS just a circus ::/:
At least Moto GP is back soon so I'll be more than happy with that :)
Absolutley stupid. Spending 2 minutes to watch the entire lap and a further 2 minutes listning to the comm between Lewis and pit wall should of been done on sunday straight after teh race. It would of been done there and then.
The rules or procedures need to be changed. If a car/team is not under invistgation before the podium takes place the results should stand regardless. If someone is under investigation, they should resolved within say 24hours and after taht the revised results stand regardless.
Its a circus and a disgrace.

Does anyone know of any examples of an Aryan motor racing driver who drove for say an Italian team and whom it was ever suggested was in any way less than 100% honest?
If so, how did that team do in the Australian GP?
