I've got my PC exactly how I want it, apart from the fact during the build I couldn't source the main HDD I wanted, so I had to install everything on a single 640GB HDD with two partitions. One being for XP/Music/Games and the other for work.

Now I can get the 1TB drive and my plan is to do the below, but before I attempt it I want to make sure it can be done (I'm 99% sure) but confirmation from Acronis users would put my mind at rest that I'm not risking my perfect setup. :)

Uninstall games from current PC, move music and films and work onto external drive.
Acronis my XP (C) partition to another external drive.
Install new HDD (different model of drive but same manufacturer)
Partition the new HDD into 3 paritions for XP / Entertainment / Games
Acronis my XP image onto the XP partition on the new HDD.
Restore my music and films and reinstall my games to the relevant partitions.
Reinstall and format existing HDD to a single drive and partition for work.

The method makes sense I know, but will my XP image transplant onto a new HDD without complaint? All other hardware won't change during the transplant.

I'm not sure.. Personally i hate Acronis with a passion.

Use Clonezilla (http://clonezilla.org/download/sourceforge/) to do what you want.

I've no idea either. I'd personally shove both disks in a system and break out a Linux Live CD - 'dd' clone from one disk to the other and then use gparted to fiddle with the partitions afterwards.

I' do the same as Mark :) If the new XP partition isn't the same size as the source partition, I'll bet you'd havefun with Acronis.

Yeah it should be fine. I've done that with Acronis a few times and it's pretty painless.

I think it should work.
Personally, I find acronis a good tool to use.
