Wrote to Tropicana about their Sanguinello (blood orange) juice ending production. I got the following back:

Ref# xxxxxxxxxxx:Your Contact About Tropicana Pure Premium Juice

Thank you very much for your recent email.

Unfortunately, we have to disappoint you as we no longer manufacture this
particular product in the Pure Premium range, however, we have re-launched this product in our new 'Gold Label' range. In stores now, black carton with gold label.

Thank you once again for taking the time to contact us.

Regards

So in other words, I have to pay almost £1 more for exactly the same product - they haven't stopped making it. They've "relaunched" it and asked much more money for it. Stupid thing is that I would get them from Tesco or Asda, 3 for £5 or something like that. I'd usually buy two of the Sanguinello and one normal juice but now I'm unlikely to buy any as a) it's too expensive, and b) Asda and Tesco don't stock the "Gold Label" range.

Trivial perhaps but I really enjoyed some blood orange juice in the mornings :(

Thanks very much Tropicana - cynical money grubbers

That's shocking if they're not making any changes other than labelling.

I have the Original orange juice (with juicy bits) almost every morning. It's by far the freshest orange juice I've tasted. Bit on the expensive side when it's not on offer but it's either in the CO-OP downstairs or available in Tesco, so if it's full price in one, it's normally on offer in the other. :D

I used to have Innocent Smoothies but I was worried about the sugar content with 5000 bananas per square inch, Tropicana is a lot better judging by the label and the fact my dental hygeine has recovered immensely since.

The Sanguinello >>>>>>> "Original" but other than that (and freshly squeezed), you're right.

I prefer Original with bits to all other types of carton orange juice but the Sanguinello was just amazing. They do a breakfast mix which is supposed to include Sanguinello oranges but it's not a patch on the 10% Sanguinello :(

That email was particularly irritating though - that they'd "relaunched" it. I'd like to relaunch their marketing department or the goon who thought Sanguinello was selling so well that they might as well try and get yet more blood from a stone ;)

The freshest OJ are the unpasturised stuff from M&S, try it and see, do a side by side comparision. You can really tell the difference.

I just make sure i buy not from conectrate fruit juices from the major supermarkets, cheaper than paying for the tropicana name and you get loads of different flavours. Orange & Mango, Apple & Mango, Grape Raspberry & Apple being some of my favourite. But i love them all and just pick up 3 different ones for a few quid everytime i go, they last forever as well, as opposed to the 3 days they say!

the Sanguinello was just amazing

Having bought some on a whim this evening (in the aforementioned expensive new packaging) I concur. It's really, really nice.

Out of interest, how much was it and where did you buy it?

£2 from Sainsburys. It was on offer, normal price is meant to be something like £2.69.

Doooooooooooooooo it :p

It REALLY is THAT good, and cost no more than Tropicana stuff !

The secret is the fact that its unpasteurized, the pasteurization really kills the edge of the taste, it's why i think Tropicana stuff taste the same all year round. Surely if its out of season, then they'll have to source oranges from other part of the world for 6 months and then back again so i would've think the taste changes, but they don't.

Pity about your Sanguinello but I find Tropicana in general to be way overpriced for what it is, don't get me wrong it is nice but I'm one of those odd people who actually likes the cheap orange juices. I think it is mainly because they are that little bit sourer than most of the 'premium' juices, it's also fortunate for my pocket as I regularly go through a litre a day and sometimes more.
