A "Did you know" thread. I often stumble across random and fab facts and figured I need to share them and would like to hear other peoples random facts of fabness.

So.

To start off.

Did you know, before a man releases his manly goodness, the lil sperm are all crammed into a tube in the testiballs which is... *drum rolls*.... SIX metres in length

How blooming awesome is that!!

:D

Did you know...
When a bird poos on you, it's not actually pooing...it's peeing. Which is actually more disgusting for some reason.

Did you know that a duck's quack does indeed echo.

A hummingbird could fit inside an ostrich's eye. I doubt the ostrich would be a big fan though :p

And it takes 40 minutes to boil an ostrich egg!

It's doing both, birds get rid of their nitrogenous waste (which us mammals pee away) in thier poo, that's why chicken manure and guano is such good fertiliser.

You can keep a crocodiles mouth shut with just a standard household rubber band.

Babies can breathe and swallow at the same time. You can't.

(PS - this might be a well-known thing, but I know nothing about babies so I thought it was interesting)

After birth the human eye remains pretty much the same size up until death. It's part of what makes babies look cute.

It is estimated that each member of an international rugby union front row is placed under two tonnes of stress during a scrummage.
Due to this a prop can expect to be 2-3 inches shorter at retirement than when he started playing. The height is lost in compression of the cartilage discs separating the vertebrae.

If all your DNA is stretched out, it would reach to the moon 6,000 times.

In a standard 9 foot concert grand piano the string tension across the frame is almost 30 tons and pianos with cracked plates can actually explode!

Every time I see a thread which starts "Did you know .....?", I immediately think of this sketch from The Secret Policeman's Ball.

If you stretched out all the alveoli in your lungs, they would cover a tennis court.

Ordering a martini "Shaken, not stirred" might make James Bond sound cool, but basically it means he can't handle too much alcohol. Shaking breaks up the ice in the drink, making it melt quicker and diluting the gin.

If you stretched out all your veins over a cricket pitch, you'd be dead.

I believe in the books he has it the other way round, and it was changed for the films as a double entendre for his general state of mind. I may have made that up though.

One I realised this morning; Sainsbury's Ardenne paté has more pork fat than actual pork in it. I can only assume this is why it's so tasty.
