I quite fancy this:

Any advice and good deals?

They're good, solid devices. The only downside I noticed with mine was that it was a bit chunky. The way the screen angles when you slide out the keyboard is a nice touch.

Looks like a nice phone Huddy :)

I'm holding out for the Pre :)

I've had one for a year or so now. It's great apart from a few things:

1. Case is too "slippy" - you can't put it on a car seat, for example, without the thing flying off. It's as though it's coated in teflon. Had to buy a car-mount for it which works great - Tom Tom 6.0 installed and it's perfect as a phone/satnav.

2. Bugs - there are a few. The most irritating one is that the screen goes dark during a phone call and disables the menu so you can't, for example, type a contact number in whilst on the phone - you have to quickly (soft) switch it on and off. The menu being disabled is a proper bug - only way to sort it is to (soft) switch on and off.

3. Battery life - very poor. Using GPS absolutely kills it so Google Maps, whilst a great idea, will only get you a relatively short distance. I've got the double size battery pack for it and even then it's only just about reasonable.

4. Slower video than the original TyTn. Apparently, the phone has hardware (dual core?)which in theory can be enabled to speed the phone up significantly, much faster than the original TyTn; but it isn't enabled and TyTn aren't going to bother releasing any FW to fix it.

5. TyTn themselves - they obviously can't be bothered fixing the problems with the unit. no new FW has been announced since I've had the unit.

All in all, a few problems but it's still the best out there for me at the moment though I'm looking to change fairly soon.

That's HTC by the way. TyTn is the model name. :)

I've still got an original TyTn (Orange-branded SPV 3100). It's been everywhere (including railway tracks under a train). Still works fine. Only had one fatal (hard reset, lose everything) crash in the two years I've had it, though I have had the odd soft reset (usually while browsing).

In my case HTC did update the firmware, but Orange didn't take the upgrade.

I can't seem to get it anywhere.. There's a new model coming out that uses android.

It is an old model so that doesn't surprise me. Current equivalent is the HTC Touch Pro but I'm personally waiting for the Touch Pro2 (due sometime between July and October, depending on who you ask).

As for Android, you might be thinking of the G1. The one I saw in CPW yesterday had had its screen snapped off. Oops.

I'll keep an eye out for that - my wife can have my TyTn II

They look flimsy and cheap IMO.

I thought the Diamond 1 was a complete POS so I'd be considering the Pro 2.
