Who's putting a bet on for the main race? Anyone interested?

I did want to put a placepot on for the whole day but woke up too late ;D:o

I'm looking at:
Comply Or Die
Black Apalachi
Cloudy Lane
Eurotrek
For each way, although i don't know who i'll decide with just yet.

And My Will to win.

:)

Just reading the bbc, sounds like a bit of a shock:

As an amateur rider, Venetia Williams (trainer) broke her neck riding in the National, and had to give up a career as a jockey. What a consolation this is!

100-1 someone must have made a bit out of that.

I don't really agree with the Grand National but I'm sure my mum would've put a bet or 5 on. :)

I replied to this, I'm sure I did!

I thought Comply or Die and Cornish Sett looked incredible in the collecting ring. Didn't place any bets but if I had it would have been on one of those two.

Lovely story for Vanetia Williams! I bet there's some bookies crying into their pints tonight!

I heard the bookies were celebrating their best day in 100 Grand Nationals. Mind you, I expect that are some people in the bookies crying into their pints.

What kind of a name is Mon Mome though. Sounds like me when I'm eating.

Jumps are too high and the race is too long.

My family put a bet on every year. Not spoken to them so not sure if they'd won anything or not this time.

Jumps are mostly brush, going through them wouldn't do any harm, and although it's a long race the horses are trained for it. Yesterday was perfect going hence why so many horses finished so strongly. It's when it's soaking wet and they slog through mud it's a struggle but they still love it. You REALLY cant make a horse do something it doesn't want to....did you see the horse a couple of races before who had to withdraw cause it wouldnt go forwards?

Just out of interest, had a quick read about it.

Out of 162 races, 58 horses have died (and 1 jockey). That strikes me as a lot but I have no idea if that is above or below average for horse racing.

That seems lower than I expected for a race with such a fearsome reputation.

Normally around forty starters so thats 58 out of 6480 runners.

I completely agree with you - I'm firmly against the grand national and five deaths at the 2009 meeting is shocking; but when so much money is involved, any concerns about animal welfare seem to take a back seat.

Anyway, that's all I'll say - I don't want to de-rail the thread :)
