View Full Version : 360 questions
Lets say hypothetically I was considering buying a console in a few weeks when my work load is lessened and that console was a 360...
What is included in a 60GB pack? Wired controllers?
Can I connect it to the net via my PC via ethernet using connection sharing or am I going to need 30 odd metres of ethernet/expensive wireless adapter to connect directly to the router?
Can the sound be output in such a way as to leave me with a standard 3.5mm jack? This is because I want to output the sound through my PC so I can use those speakers rather than crap ones in the screen. I'd be using the (i assume) standard component cable. I suppose just something like this (http://www.rueducommerce.fr/hifi/images/produits/info/xl/HRCA.jpg) would work wouldn't it, as long the RCA ends were the other gender?
How much is a decent bundle likely to set me back at the moment?
What are the general media capabilities like compared to the PS3?

Yes. I use Windows XP's ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) and it works perfectly.
Xbox --> Laptop (via WiFi) --> Router --> Net.
As for media, I can't compare to a PS3 as I've never really used one, but its great. Supports DIVX/XVID now too :)

Yes you can, if you setup connection sharing on your PC

You'll need one of these (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1218) from maplins.

Depends what games you want really.
RE5 Bundle (http://gamestation.co.uk/Xbox360/Hardware/HardwareBundle/~r415138/Xbox-360-60GB-Premium-Pack-with-Resident-Evil-5-and-Extra-Wireless-Controller/)
Kung Fu & Indy Bundle (http://gamestation.co.uk/Xbox360/Hardware/HardwareBundle/~r412483/Xbox-360-60GB-Premium-Pack-with-Kung-Fu-Panda-and-LEGO-Indiana-Jones-and-an-Extra-Wireless-Controller/)

It can play divx, wmv formats but you can stream the rest to it using your PC.
I see I see.
Ta muchly.
As for games, i've no idea what i'd want to buy really :p
If you want HDMI output you'll need a cable for that (beware the standard A/V connector blocks the HDMI socket). Also, the wireless controller takes two AA batteries. A set is supplied but if you're going to use it a fair bit then you might want to add a play and charge kit (includes rechargeable battery and cable) in your shopping list.
Not interested in HDMI as that would force me to use the built in speakers on the screen.
As for the controller, it'd probably be easier to get a set of 2500mAh AA rechargeables for a couple of quid.

I bought my play and charge kit off ebay for 7 quid and it's been great.
How does the play and charge kit actually work? How does it charge?
Via a USB cable :) Probably the only essential accessory imo, always proves useful. You also get a headset with the 60GB pack btw.

You can charge your controller off USB on any machine. I used to use my mac when as the charge cable wasn't long enough to reach the sofa.
Normal rechargeable batteries on rotation sound easier to me :p

it is until you have 2 people playing and 1 set run out :p or have a camera that takes AA batteries ;)
Ain't gonna be no one else playing it, if they do they can bring their own controller :p
I thought that initially but it got so irritating after a while, it was easier to get the play n charge kit. Brilliant accessory imo.
It's more the annoyance of a controller dying when you're using it, or worse, playing online, for me.
Bear in mind that, as the name suggests, you can also play and charge at the same time. Try doing that with a set of flat AAs. It's all about convenience.
I'd have to see how it went, I never had issues with my wavebird although that did have the decency to tell you when the batteries were low.
The 360 controller warns you for quite a while beforehand when batteries are running low.

You'll have to get GoW2 so I can beat your arse :D

Another nail in the coffin of the play and charge!
Bet you change your mind ;) I thought much the same as you initially but the kits are too damn useful if you play on the console a fair bit.
I don't even know if i'm gonna buy the console yet! :p

Buy the Play N Charge kit anyway, then you have to get the 360 :p

Docking station with 1 more battery than you have controller is the best way :>

You get a wireless pad, 60gb HDD, a wired headset and a component cable, which has R/W stereo phono ends, so add a phono to 3.5mm jack and you're set.
Yes you can connection share, it's very easy.
The media capabilities are much better on PS3 as you can quickly mux HD video on there, where as Xbox360 is unable to decode video and sound at the same time, but playing DVD's, Xvids, WMV and Mpeg isn't a problem.
