Grr - I'm fighting with MSN at the moment :(

It forced me to update it to the 2009 version and now won't let me sign in at all. It doesn't even give an error code, it just takes me back to the sign in page again and again and again :(

I've looked at oldversion.com and found the previous version but again it forced me to upgrade :( It suggested going to another website to download "the appropriate patch" to stop the forced upgrade but hell if I can find the patch on the site!

So now I can't sign in to msn at all - that was a useful upgrade wasn't it microsoft :( :(

I like msn no matter what other people think and have never wanted to get anything else :( looks like I don't have any choice now though :(

Try clearing the temp files?

To do it safely, download CCleaner (http://www.google.co.uk/url?q=http://www.ccleaner.com/download&ei=-aTpSdGNNtSrjAe82NX9BQ&sa=X&oi=smap&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&usg=AFQjCNE1RK6AhIvPOFo9skt6O6sfCuFuUQ) and tick the MSN box :)

Apparently a few others have had the same issue and adding the following to the hosts file fixed it:

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com

But I wouldn't suggest that until all else has failed.

I'm still using Messenger 8.1, but mine has been very heavily A-Patch'd, which might be why it isn't complaining. It's working right now.

I've started trying Digsby, currently really liking it :)

Yeah digsby is totally amazing, and unless you want to use audio or video with other friends or multi convo chat, then its far superior. Until they sort out those massive failings i can't change over permanently... :(

hmmm... just rebooted my PC for something and mine is refusing to log back in, just sat at 'signing in' and keeps spinning and spinning.

I only use the official client at work and it's been offering me the new version for a couple of weeks. I've resisted it and I really hope it's not forced on me.

The new version is horrible. It's so wishy washy, they've tried to make it simple but ended up complicating it. Even after A-Patching it it's crap, like the colour coded status lights for people, why change all of that, it worked fine?! Old Messenger used to just do the icon, the clock for being away, no entry sign for being busy etc. Now it's coloured. Red is away, and also the same for busy I think. The colour customisation is pointless, I chose black as my "scene" and it gave me a very light grey and green theme. Can't go darker to match the rest of the desktop or anything. Either let me customise it or don't Microsoft, letting me change 10% of the theme is frustratingly pointless.

I managed to roll back to 8.1 and APatch it to hell and mine seems ok. Won't be long till it breaks though I suppose. Microsoft have a habit of pulling the plug on old versions and shoehorning people onto the new ones, even if the users dislike the new one and prefer the old one. :(

I was signing in and rather than the "do you want to? no; remind me in a week" it said "new version needed to continue, yes or no" hit no and it just cancels the log in.

I gave up using it and moved to Digsby.
I was using the last WLM version and it kept downloading the new version onto my C: and then pestering me to upgrade, except I hate that version as I've tried it already in the past. The file size alone on that was a pathetic 40mb - 40mb to TALK TO SOMEONE? I mean wtf.

Back in the olde days of proper IM'ing messengers were under 5mb in size and didn't require services just to function. WLM is just getting too large for it's own good. Arghh must end rant! :lipsrsealed:

I think their new version isn't half as bad as some of the tat they've been through in the past, its pretty nice to use, and sharing pictures, videos and webcam sessions are better than they've ever been :) It's all quite bubbly now though i agree, either way i don't use it that often unless i need to webcam or talk to groups as i said so maybe thats why i like it :D

Now it's coloured. Red is away, and also the same for busy I think.

Red is busy and a shade of orange so similar to red that you'd virtually need to use the dropper tool in photoshop to tell the difference is away.

However, being the annoying gits they are, they've chosen shades that accentuate my red/green colourblindness so I can't see the difference between the red and green anyway. When i'm looking at my contact list I can't actually tell who is busy/away/online.
