Well I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from my trusty 400D to a 40D. It's a used one but it pretty good nick and has had fairly light use.

Seriously impressed with it so far. Just that bit better in so many areas plus the build quality and size of it makes the 400D seem like a toy now. It's funny that I never really had much of a problem with the 400D but, having had the 40D for only a day, it's amazing how much better it feels to use.

Now I've just got to work out how to use it as everything's different! :D

Ahhhh its not THAT different :D

I made a similar upgrade and there are so many things to love about the 40D, the little joystick for selecting the AF point, the better autofocus for moving objects, the H/ 3200 ISO capability (enable that in the custom functions) ;), the speed of the scrolling through the pics you've taken, the whole interface is just better in every way but if you know your 350d back to front you'll soon be intimate with the 40D :)

Oh and I'd have had that memory card off you on TP :(

What glass are you using with the 40D?

Sorry about the memory card, never occurred to me to offer it here first! Already got four 4GB Extreme IIIs and didn't need an extra Extreme IV when the difference shooting RAW is marginal.

A lot of the controls are familiar but it's just getting used to where they are, including all the options on the top display with the associated buttons above it.

Using the same glass I was with my 400D, a Sigma 17-70 and Canon 70-200 F/4 IS

You have exactly the same kit as me except my 70-200 is non IS :)

arrgh I want that lens ;D

I did the same upgrade as you after my 400D died in January. I love the 40D now, can't remember what it was like using the 40!!

Had my 400d almost a year now, started getting more glass but lack of work has put off funding for a while. One thing that really upset me was on holiday in Florida someone handed me a 40d with some L glass to take a picture of them at one of the parks, having the 400d around my neck with 50mm attached it's not felt the same since. Even with the battery grip when I go to use my camera I'm always dreaming of a 40d.

I don't have commitment issues honest!

Know exactly what you mean steeps. I'd been mulling it over for a while and eventually decided to take the plunge. Selling the 400D to a friend of work colleague (hopefully) and, by buying a used 40D rather than brand new, it's only costing me about £230 to upgrade so not too bad.
