Well the box set of the first six films is out on Bluray on Monday. Anyone else have it on pre-order and can't wait? :D

Why is it being released on bluray? I doubt they've got any high resolution originals for the transfer?

How do you mean? The films will all be on, err, film and can thus be re-scanned from the masters at HD resolutions.

Correct. Film is a lot higher resolution than DVD (and probably considerably higher than Blu-ray), so they just go back to the original print and re-master. That's how so many old movies can be released on Blu-ray now.

I would, but I don't own a Blu-ray player, so there's no point. :)

I'm trying to resist as it's a bit pricey at the moment. Plus I'm waiting for the inevitable 1-10 or 1-11 box set :D

They're also releasing the first season of TOS on Bluray with both the originals and remastered versions available via seamless branching. This is going to be somewhat weird as it'll be 1080p yet 4:3 ratio!

The sad thing is that, whilst older TV series such as TOS were recorded on film and can thus be rescanned and released in HD, more modern series such as TNG, DS9 & VOY were recorded on video to keep costs down yet were too early to be recorded in HD so there's no way any HD version of these can be produced :(

Going to hold off on TOS as I was never that big a fan of the original series but the films are a different matter. Already have all of the R1 collectors edition DVDs but can't resist them in HD :)

I have TOS on HD-DVD (really cheap..like £12), and it does look great.

it is a shame that up until HD took off, a lot of TV between the 80's to late 90's and even up to mid 2005 are all shot in Video !

I got that too, sadly only the first season (are s2 and 3 available on HD-DVD?)

I love the updated effects as they're not directors cut Star Wars intrusive

Trek awesome-ness

Just the First one. I have about 70 HD-DVD in my collection, majority bought for £4 each. :)

Film box-set turned up on Monday and I've already watched all of them except 5.

(ok and I might have skipped through bits of 3 :) )

Even numbers (except 10) are the best anyway, so fair play to you.

Exactly :)

For me personally, it's 2 > 4 > 6 > 1 > 3 > 5

Apparently the remaining four films will be out later in the year as a separate box set - just hope they keep the packaging the same so they sit neatly together on the shelf :)
