View Full Version : UH oh... Toovd Sadness...
Our toovd... for a few months now I have noticed that there's a darker "column" (it's not a set of dead pixels) on the right hand side of the screen (going vertically)
It's not massively noticeable unless you're watching something that pans across a block colour and then you're like "ah... darkened black column there".
Thing is... I a) canny find the receipt for it anywhere (it was actually a blooming nice and shocking Christmas Prezzie for us not last Christmas but the Christmas before) and b) reckon it will be out of guarantee anyway.
What do I do? Just accept there's nada I can do and put up with the "fault" or write of to LG and poke them about it?
*boo* :(

If it is over 12 months old I don't think there is much you can do but arrange to get it repaired. I was careful when I bought ours to make sure we had a 5 year guarantee with it, good luck pheebs.
EDIT: I'd check on avforums.com to see if anyone else is having the same issue as you with their TV.
:(
Well it being bought for us... we didn't really know. I guess we should have gone and got an extended one.
BUM CHEEKS!
Still. LG - we worship their stuff... it's never failed us... and a couple of months out of gaurentee and looky what it does! Just as I was going to suggest putting some money aside and saving for a small LG flat screen upstairs (our toovd upstairs is like... sooooo old and takes up the whole surface of a drawer and due to the switch over, won't work soon). Now I'm like "Boo hiss!"
Maybe we just got unlucky!
I know it was bought from currys or somewhere similar... if I find out where, could I not give them the model number and then they find a receipt on their records or is that like... never gonna happen?! :)

Worth a shot.
What is the model number?
*blank*
Ermm...
*blank*
Surely it's somewhere on the darn toovd...
In short... I canny find it :p But then I am scared of moving it all the way round in case I break it!
OOohwait
32LXR2 ?
I think that might be it :D

Always worth ringing the manufacturer & giving them the details, There records will let you know if it's a warranty fix or not & if not they will advise on cost for repair etc I Never make a decision until I've spoken to them. Some times they are well sweet & some times you luck out but well worth the cost & time of a phone call.
Have a read of the 'Sale of Goods Act.' Here are a couple of quotes I picked up from a quick read:
• Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).
• Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description.
• Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety.
• It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.
• If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back "within a reasonable time". (This is not defined and will depend on circumstances)
• For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).
• A purchaser who is a consumer, i.e. is not buying in the course of a business, can alternatively request a repair or replacement.
Q7. Do I have to produce a receipt to claim my rights?
No. In fact the trader doesn't have to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one. However, it might not be unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so look to see if you have a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., and this should be sufficient.

Not sure if this is the same thing but look here (http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-televisions/756381-grey-shadows-lg32lx2r.html)
Burble beat me to it. You might be able to argue that the TV wasn't fit to purpose. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a TV to work for more than a year. :)
Yeah, SoGA is the way to go with that. They will try to push back, so do some reading and then write them a letter with the relevant information.
Remember that your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer. Don't take no fobbing off about manufacturer warranties because that's not what the law says.
So you're saying go to where we (rather - the folks) bought it from? *confuddled*
I just rang up LG, explained the situation and said I thought it was a bit crazy that the TV has this column on it and I wouldn't have expected it to have been like that after a year and she was sooooooooo rude! Said that if we didn't get an extended warranty it was our fault and there was nothing she could do but put me through to a recommended repairs and mechanicy person :(
I don't mind being told there's nothing they can do but when they're rude it's not on.
Really disappointed though :( I thought LG was awesome :(

Yep.
Just spoke to me Ma and she's not got the receipt there... buuut she asked if I had checked the box it came in and I haven't... I only went through my receipts folder!
*heads up to the loft*
That may not be a problem:

Would be handy though :) Me Ma said she'd pull out her bank statements for it if not!

Yep that's spot on. You have a contract with the seller, the seller has a contract with the manufacturer. The seller should be your first port of call, although sometimes going straight to the manufacturer can be quicker!
If I was you I'd complain to whoever you speak to next about the rudeness of the woman and say that if you have to replace it, no way in HELL Will you buy a TV from them again. Say that you can understand a faulty machine slipping through but rudeness is unacceptable! Might get you a little discount, and if not, it was worth trying ;)

I would hazard the SoGA should cover you at least 3 years on a TV.
Really disappointed though :( I thought LG was awesome :(
I really don't know where you got that idea from. Lucky Goldstar, a Korean firm who (iirc) first started off making toothpaste. It's certainly not a brand name I've ever associated with quality.
I hope you get it sorted though, hopefully the SoGA will cover you and it gets repaired/replaced quickly :)

Before we got our TV I toyed with an LG but the image retention on it was disgraceful so went with our Panasonic which has been awesome! So if you are going to replace it Pheebs, buy Panasonic and you get a 5 year warranty with it too ;)
Yeh, I've seen a few other peoples toovds and panasonic have been wickedy. I dunno why I liked LG... I guess the few products we had of there's have always been good!
Boo!
IMO they're not bad, but not the best. Better than Grundig and Alcatel to say the least! :p

Comparing LG with Panasonic for TV's is like comparing Jelly and Bricks for building a house.

but the jelly house would also give you sustinence as well as protection from the elements :p

I wouldn't complain to the next person as LG you speak to as that isn't really fair on them. They didn't do anything wrong, so why complain to them, I would ask about the complaints process though :) I have people having a go at me when I get to there house because someone on the telephone has been an arse, is REALLY annoying.
