My key fob I usually use to lock and unlock the car doors has suddenly stopped working. I usually press it twice to lock the car and once to unlock it.
Its a 52 plate car, and I am fairly certain I have had the battery in it changed once.
The reason I think its random is im not sure its the battery because the light is still coming on on the fob (just nothing happens) and because I am still able to start the car.
I would have thought it wouldnt start due to the thingy that talks to the imobiliser in the key fob no longer working if the battery was dead.
Any ideas please?
:)

The imobiliser thing in the fob doesn't need power. They normally use induction IIRC.
Change the battery.

I hope it is just that, but why would the light still be coming on when I press the buttons on the remote?
:)
Yes I know im a bloody useless bint by the way :p
Because the LED light will need much less power to work than the transmitter.

^^ What that man said.
Yup. Change the battery. :p
I had a problem with Loms Rover on Boxing day where the immobiliser/alarm fob just stopped working.
Cost me £80 to get a new one reprogrammed :(

Thats why I was worrying because thats what my Dad when I rang him said it could be.
Can you still start the car with that key? If you can then it won't be a programming issue.

Yup, it starts as normal.
Couldnt get the battery changed in Timpsons today cos they were shut (bank hol) so just thought I would post and ask before I can get there tomorrow after work.

The immobiliser on the Rover isn't connected to the ignition, it's seperate like an alarm.
Hence the £80 stinger.

I had a problem with my Key fob, it sometimes worked and sometimes didn't, the light still came on but it wouldn't do anything. For mine the soldering which connected the button to the board was broken.
First thing to do would be change the battery, I would say take it apart, but don't know if you would cause more harm that good :p
In the end I had to buy a new key fob which cost around £45 :)

Man in Timpsons he say battery is fully charged and working. Vauxhall just want to book it in and look, which I really cant afford in my current circumstances.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help so far.

Use the key in the lock. Been doing that for 10 months now since my blipper was stolen and Ford wanted £105 for a new one

Yeah I did that for months until it got on my nerves so much that I coughed up the money for a new fob! :p
You lucky people with your key fobs and central locking :p

Tell me about it!! The only time there's been a car in my family with a remote for unlocking the doors, the damned receiver module just about smoked all the wiring under the instrument panel (read fuse box!!).
Tina doesn't even have power locks on her car!!
