I made a slight mistake when I took these, I didnt put anything next to them to give an indication of size :'( (and as we all know, size DOES matter!!)

Anyway - its a Borg Warner Garrett hybrid (BW hot / Garrett cold sides) its a T6 and err 88mm  to give an indication the exhaust is a 5" outlet - luckily I just happen to have a 5" Borla that will sit nicely!

All going behind (well in front) of a SBC 383, turbo is good to 1200 or 1400 at a push.....block is good to 800/850  but to be totally frank...I think thats enough to scare the pants off me for a good while, especially being road legal!!

And yes....its chuffing heavy! Going to run MS2 with 2 maps 1 for spooling hooked up to the brake and then switching to the normal map as soon as I mash the pedal....or thats the plan

'tsssssshhhhhhh' ?

I think a deafening roar akin to a tornado is more likely to be emerging from that monster :D

BROOOOAAAAAAARR

HOOOOOOOSH!!

Word

Well, I mean come on. With a 383CID Chevy small block V-8 with a 5" exhaust and pushing close on to 1000bhp, there is NOTHING about it that would sound "Brmmmmmm Tsssssshhh"!! Ok, maybe a vacuum leak.

That thing is bloody well going to compete with the Concorde for sheer loudness!!

When I actually make some progress (read I magic some money from somewhere - not looking likely as the company I work for 'may' be up for sale!!) I will start a project thread

I am looking forward to getting this running though, should be errrr fun

I have no idea what a turbocharger does, but I want one.

What is it your building dude? :)

A rocket on wheels.

Think an American muscle car with a tube frame, no body and the engine on the world's entire supply of steroids.

Iain,

How are you going to drive the turbo? One side only, or using a 2 into 1 system and driving the tubby from that?

Iain,

Both banks going into a collector, then into the turbo....I am thinking of doing a bank per side of the divider, turbo will be offset from centre (slightly) as I want to run the tubing back into the car to the air/water unit, then from there back out onto the throttle body.

Will dig a pic out later of what I would like...not sure if it will happen, but meh

So you'll have a charge cooler in the car?

IainB

So you'll have a charge cooler in the car?

Yes indeed
All about weight and getting it towards the centreline.
Weve moved the engine as far back as it can legally go and having the chrage cooler and possibly the water box in the middle of the car a) helps with the weight and b) is well known in the drag racing circles.... hell some people are even having the throttle body attatched inside the firewall now!!

I don't blame you, seems perfectly sensible to me. I am expecting (when I get around to it) to have the chargecoolers "inboard" with plumbing leading to rads at the front on my project.

So is all this for a pod car dude?

Whats the estimated figure? :D

Isn't it more like:

roar whoosh fzzzzzzzz roar whoosh fzzzzzzzz

fzzzzzz being the rather sexy noise of the wastegate.

Road Legal Pod Car...yes  think Redvictor, just a bit slower :'(
Will be racing in the same class, just not with the front runners....as I have proved (and as my credit record shows!) chasing BHP at that level is a tad expensive!!
If I can run mid to low 9s I will be happy, if I can run a high 8 I will be over the moon

No, I'd think any wastegate big enough to handle that thing is going to make more of a "WHOOOOSH!!" sound, much like what I imagine the water flowing down the generators at Grand Coulee Dam sounds like!! ;D

Don't all wastegates make fizzing noises because of the turbo rotating? Or something like that. It's only dump valves that make a whoosh noise isn't it?

Yup, you're right. :numpty:

For those that may be interested, the turbo, 5" Borla muffler, set of V clamps and a few bits of pipe are now up for sale, looking for around £700 :(

Here we go...this is a pic of the turbo, the borla muffler, the 12an fittings, clamp (x10) and the pipe (x5)

Im now tempted to trade/swap against a larger car, im thinking along the lines of BMW E30/E36/E34/E39 tourings (possibly a err derv) or Merc W124 / W202 estates (again possibly derv) or anything of that prestige/type i.e. something thats not totally driven by modern electrics!! (I hate em)

Ooooh and there is a 50p hidden in there somewhere, just to give you a size aspect

You cant tell me this wouldnt look awesome inside someones engine bay
