View Full Version : New camera time
A while ago, I got goey eyed over a Fuji S20, but got confused with the difference between a S2, S20, S7000 etc.
Im not looking to spend a whole wad on photography, but I would like to know what the best camera to get into DP is. I already have a point and click sony dsc p-100 and although good, does't work anymore, so can someone reccomend something good.

Canon S3 IS http://www.boat-drinks.co.uk/showpost.php?p=30484&postcount=3
Seriously considering this myself, mostly because of the 12x optical zoom which comes built into the camera, this seems to be a the next step before a proper DSLR which is going to eat money at a much faster rate. However it depends on how compact a unit you want, the S3 is more like an SLR than a compact, this suits my big clunky hand though :D

Or, if you want to stay on the Sony side, the DSC-H2 or -H5. The -H2 is 6MP with a 1.8in TFT, the -H5 is 7MP with a 3in TFT. Other than that, they're the same - and stand up well against the S3 IS.
I was thinking around the 300 - 400 mark. I don't mind second hand, I just want to ease into the "enthusiastic" category

My Fuji S9500 will do me for now.
Got a 20d at my parents place *it's now been repaired - YAY!* but I think I'll leave it there for a while as I will spend a fortune on lenses....
I do like the Superzoom camera's though. They're a good compromise.

Sony DSC-H2 - £234
Canon S3 IS - £269
Fuji S9500 - £293
Sony DSC-H5 - £299
All @ pixmania. Dunno if there's anywhere better.
Where does the Fuji S9500 come in between the Fuji S2, S20, S3?
How does the Canon S3 IS compare to the S9500 or the Fuji S3?
Are there any ones that are in my price range that have swappable lenses?
The Fuji is a slightly older model, so probably closer to the Canon S2.
If you want to go DSLR, you're probably better off going for the 2nd hand market with that budget.
I quite like the look of the H5 as it would mean I can keep the batteries and charger from my old camera. Now I just need to save up and hope for a lot of little miracles. It would be a nice treat for myself.
My Black H5 arrived today! now I need a nice case. Can anyone reccomend one? I don't like the idea of putting it in the case lens down without supports, so I was looking in PC world and saw a lowepro 120, which has built up velcro sides. Can anyone suggest anything similar or somewhere on line to get the case a bit cheaper?

What sort of case do you want?
Purely a camera case or something that you can carry other accessories with as well?
I was going to get a pure camera bag, but ended up gettign a Lowepro Orion Trekker II and now my S9500 goes with me everywhere that I go as it's my day to day use backpack.

I think Im after purely a camera case. I was thinking something like the Rezo 120? I don't use a rucksack everyday, so have no use for a multi purpose bag like the trekker II.
