Bear with me because I buy a lot more on ebay than I sell, and I havent sold anything for a good while.
I sold some concert tickets last night, the person who bought them did the "buy it now" thing, which is fine with me, but he/she hasnt bought or sold anything before on ebay (as in it looks like a new account just to buy my tickets)
I put the paypal option as the payment method, am just being wary because of his/her lack of history, once I have the money in my paypal account then its all ok and safe and I have my money/can send them the tickets yes?
Or do I have to wait a couple of days to "clear" it?
Basically can someone remind me how it works?
If they did a buy it now through ebay the transaction should have been immediate? No? *confused*
TBH I am in a foul mood with ebay - they owe me about £40 and keep dodging my emailed questions... I think I'm on email 16 to them. It's not fun.

They can still put in a claim against you using Paypal and possibly get their money back by claiming the tickets were forgeries for example.

Yep its so very easy to get done over on ebay via this route. It's another reason most sellers ship by recorded delivery now. IE the buyer claims they never received the item. With someone with 0 feedback I would see if you can cancel their bid and relist.

when I had the email this morning to say they had sold, I then had to click through on my end to send them an invoice, so does that mean they dont have paypal? I am sending them recorded delivery but obviously not until I have received any monies and they have cleared. They weren't bought until like 2am and the day before they sent me a message asking if it was two tickets and were they still for sale.

Paypal is not worth **** but you have offered it as an option so you are ****ed Basically. Buyer can pay then get goods then get his money back no probs it is complete ****e.
Next time don't use paypal, The sooner everybody stops using it the sooner they will sort it.

What you could do is add a note with the invoice that goods will Not be dispatched until cash has cleared from Paypal, If buyer wants a quicker way then email you for arrangements. Jobs a good'en.

I just got this
You've received a payment, detailed below. We've placed a temporary hold on the funds for this transaction.
eBay and PayPal are working together to make it safer than ever to buy on eBay. One of the boldest steps is to identify transactions that pose the greatest risk of fraud and holding the payments from sellers for a period of time to help ensure that the transactions go smoothly.
We'll release the payment for the eBay item if either of the following occurs:
- The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
- It's been 21 days since the payment date and you haven't received a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction being held
Shes paid up the full amount, but does that mean I cant draw the money from my paypal until she either leaves me feedback or until it gets to 21 days?
The concert is on the 20th so shes gonna need the tickets soonish. Shall I contact her and ask her to leave me the feedback so I can get the money out, or because im sending them recorded delivery will that cover me if she does a runner with the tickets and then tries to get her money back?
Recorded delivery only covers items up to a value of £39, so if they're worth more than that make sure you insure it for the full amount.
If the buyer says she didn't receive them, you can ask the PO to trace the shipment and see if anyone's signed for it. If they have, you can prove to Paypal that she's received the goods. If they get lost, you can file a claim and get your money back off the PO.
I didn't know Paypal held the monies nowadays though. That's new!!
Bought and sold tickets on ebay, everything went fine. So its pot luck.
What you could do is add a note with the invoice that goods will Not be dispatched until cash has cleared from Paypal, If buyer wants a quicker way then email you for arrangements. Jobs a good'en.
Doesn't make a difference if it clears from Paypal, if Paypal were to decide to refund the buyer for whatever reason they'd just stick the account in the negative and hassle you to pay off your debt.

So I should just take the risk, send her the goods and hope that she isnt trying to pull a fast one?
Its very annoying looking at 77 quid in my paypal that I cant draw out.
At the end of the day, selling on eBay and to a slightly lesser extent buying is an 'at your own risk' deal. It's part of the reason I just don't use it.

Yeah could be fine, you could get screwed the risk you take, i'm putting leeds tickets on there soon. Could stand to make (or lose) a fortune ;D

Sorry to keep harping on, but I sent the buyer a message saying would she be willing to give me positive feedback so I could release the funds from my paypal account (basically so I knew she wasnt trying to pull a fast one) ive heard nothing back since. The money is sat there saying "pending" in my ebay, but i've since sent a further message asking if she got my other message, and no reply to that either. (first one was Friday, second one this morning)
I can only really get to the post office this week tomorrow to send them recorded, any ideas?

I think I'm more trusting of eBay than most as I've never (*knocks on wood*) had a bad experience, but I would say wait until you've at least had a reply from them.
To be perfectly honest Knips, if a seller sent me a message asking me to give positive feedback before they'd sent the item out, I'd tell them to swivel. Once they've done that they have absolutely no comeback whatsoever if you don't send the tickets and how are they to know that you're the real deal? If this is the way Paypal now works, you'll have to send them the item recorded and get it insured for the correct amount. That way, if they try and claim they haven't received it, you're covered.
I know they don't have much feedback, but it doesn't mean they're out to screw you over. This, as with all purchases relies on a bit of trust between the parties. There is no risk-free way of selling anything like that.
Like Kel, I've never had a bad experience with Paypal, even when I had to claim off someone for not sending out a £70 item. He admitted to it though and I got everything back.

I really do appreciate your opinions, and im sure im just being paranoid, its just worrying that shes not replied at all since thats all. (Even to tell me to go swivel ;D )
I will send the tickets tomorrow and get the right level of postage insurance.

I can't help but wonder if there is someone on another forum very much like this one, writing a post about this person on ebay who has asked them to give positive feedback before they have received the goods and are they trying to rip them off.

Im honestly not trying to rip anyone off :(
If it was someone who had been an ebay member before now and bought and sold stuff I wouldnt even be worrying, but theyve only been on ebay since the day before they bought my tickets, so im just wary is all.
If you send recorded delivery and insure them to their proper value, you will have covered your back. It might take a bit longer to get the money if it all goes wrong, but at least you'll have it.
With these sorts of transactions, I'm afraid the choice is simple - you either do it and accept the risk (doing the best you can to minimise it by avoiding obvious scams and so forth, but the risk is always there) or you just don't do it at all.
Buying £370 worth of lens off someone with 0 feedback on TP scared the bejesus out of me, but I took the precautions and it all worked out fine - though to be completely fair to you, it's a lot safer than eBay for that sort of job.
Sounds like you're willing to take the risk so fingers crossed that it all works out fine. If not, you've covered your back as best you can. Good luck. :)
and right to be wary. I've used ebay loads in the past but rarely now since the rules changed. I lost 25 quid on a transaction with a registered company via ebay about a year ago and despite raising disputes, I got nothing back. The person just closed their account and disappeared.
It's so much in favour of the buyer now, I just don't sell anymore.

They could still claim they were forgeries and raise a dispute to get the money back after the concert. Make sure you keep receipts and anything you can photograph proving they aren't if that happens. That's why I don't sell tickets anymore!
Aye, agree with Kitten. I've thought about selling my old stuff on eBay, but it's got to the point that throwing it away (or at least freecycle) is actually less risky.
Latest one I've heard - get two negatives close together and you're suspended from eBay. Given that buyers can give negative feedback with virtual immunity, two cheap purchases, two negatives, and you're gone. Seller beware. :(
I use paypal and touch wood haven't been stung yet.
Only shipped to a confirmed address, only ship though Royal mail Special delivery or signed for parcel. Always type the tracking number into paypal as soon as you send it and follow their seller protection to the guideline. You can still get stung but it's a lot harder.
Cancel any bidders you are not happy with. I always set it so 0 feedback and non UK members can't bid.
If it has a unique number on it like a serial, always take a picture, scan of it and include in listing. In case they try fobbing you of with a broken "return"
I sold a phone a while back and had the same thing. The payment was just sitting there until the buyer left feedback. I figure if I send it recorded/insured I know if the buyer has the item and can prove it. If they don't like the item for whatever reason then you ask for it back and they get a refund. Maybe I'm being naive but I fail to see how I can get conned like that if I avoid the obvious things like shipping to Nigeria.
They can say nothing was in the parcel. or say it is broken and send you a different phone back. which is why you take a pic of the serial number and stick it on the auction. That combined with following the seller protection rules and you are pretty safe. Not 100% but good enough for me.

Ive still had absolutely no contact from her since she bought the tickets, am just about to head to the post office though, am writing down the barcode numbers on the tickets and will get the right insurance and delivery method and just hope for the best.
