View Full Version : Bye bye baby!
Well, it truly has to go this time, I have debts I need to clear if I'm to live on anything other than potnoodles and the car has to go asap!
I'll link to the ad on Pistonheads in a sec but if anyone knows anyone looking for a ridiculous amount of fun in a little French car then let them know!

Thats a shame I know you loved it, it'll be snapped up pretty quickly I suspect but thats not much of a consolation I know :(
The problem with cars like that an the MINI isn't so much the inital cost its the ongoing costs, I know that from bitter experience and you'll see a lot more in the bank on a monthly basis as well as recover some capital for an eco wagon ;)

I'd buy it if I had the cash :(
:( Blimey that seems cheap! Shame to see it go. You could pick up an ST24 again cheap?
edit:- Being the cheeky git that I am I would put that up a bit higher knowing that buyers will knock you down. The market is tough though at the moment.

God I'm crap at this selling malarky!!
2 people want to pay deposits today! One cant pay in full until the end of the month, the other can pay when they see it and will be travelling from Wales on a train to see it so they can drive home. They sound dead nice and were panicking when I said someone else was seeing it, trying to book days off work etc. Anyway, they're coming Wednesday and know the price I'm asking is what I'll accept, I'm not taking a deposit....dodgy ground I reckon.
I've told everyone it's priced to sell and I wont take offers. Luckily it passed it's MOT this morning!
Fingers crossed!
O_o fingers crossed Pebsicle!
I don't think you are crap - you're sticking to your guns, which is better than I would be! :D

I use that Term.
Be Strong & tell them You Love the car & it's only financial reasons you are selling it not because there is something wrong with it, You Know the car is Sound & the M.O.T. pass proves that. If you can't get asking then you are keepng it & selling one of your Horses or summit (Lies of course ;)) But No way are you selling it any cheaper as like you say you have priced it to sell & know it is Sound, Don't use the word Perfect Always use the word Sound. ;)
Come and help me JSM!
I've had so many queries I'm really not worried now...it'll sell. MtE just berated me for selling it too cheaply!
Like JSB said, don't get knocked down, whatever you do. Stand firm. If they want it, they'll pay the asking price. Good luck :)

Bare this in mind.
From a Buyers point of view I don't want the seller to come down in price as that indicates the motor has issues, ;) When the Seller stands firm & is almost stroppy about his price I am confident that I am buying a Decent motor.
Of course I like a bargain but only when I have spotted the faults & know in my own mind why the person is selling & can repair/put right the faults within my budget etc
Like everything it depends how you look at it. :)
Don't get tricked into liking the person either. It's all part of their evil plan :p

Remember that when you have potential buyers travelling some distance to view your car, it gives you something of the upper hand to a degree anyway.
They've invested time and money getting to you, so turning down a perfectly good car because you won't haggle means this is dead money (and time) and they know it.
I don't follow the prices of those cars, but if you feel it is a good price then spell it out to them before they come to view and don't let them knock you down one iota.
They have a round trip of about 350 miles. I've explained every dink in the paintwork, service history, wrinkle in the leather and that I won't budge on price. There's nothing more I can tell them that could put them off! I've even been honest and explained that no, I'm not one careful lady owner. I've treated the car how it was built to be treated, which I think goes a way to explaining why I've had so few problems with it...ie none!

If this person does turn up to view do not give them any discount no matter what they point out or say. No one travels that far to view a car without being happy to pay the full asking price.
Also if they do find issues it will be one of two things, issues that make them walk away no matter what or smaller issues that aren't worth arguing about as if they argue and lose it will cost them too much in travelling.
Seeing as they've come so far....increase the price ;D
Well, it's gone. They left their home at 5am yesterday morning on a coach, arrived at half 1. They didn't want to drive it, had a quick look over, handed over the full asking price without so much as a blink and off they went. Throughly nice couple and I'm sure they'll love it.
For the first time since I was 18 I'm carless. It's a horrible horrible feeling :( Need to find something asap so if anyone localish know of anything under 1k with a decent length of MOT and tax gimme a yell :)
Paging Phil & Vix ;) Thats mr2 mk1 territory that is :D Sure not as quick as yours in a straight line, but it'll be quick round the bends and you can sling the back out around roundabouts ;)
Bar looking in the chronicle for Mondeo's etc knocking about. If not then it'll be worth a punt down at the auctions.

Lol, might be a bit tricky taking the 3 girls anywhere in one but if you're still planning on living the bachelorette lifestyle then I guess it could work!
Good point, however they are small. One in the frunk, one in the passenger and Daisy is small enough to get in the boot. Otherwise there is always a couple of straps and tieing one to the engine lid :D
Seriously though you could probably get a banger off ebay that would be fine. I'm thinking along the lines of Volvo's, Mondeo's, Omegas, even Pug 90s diesels. Tanks but they go forever. Infact bangers is Lopez's area of expertise (In both definitions of the word).
I have seen an MR2 (think it was a mk2) in a petrol station with 2 adults plus a kid standing behind one of the seats
Not certain what you think of these but there is a Citroen ZX for sale down Pump lane. Didn't check the price but it will be damn cheap, banger territory. Bar that there are some motors in the Chronicle this week that would do the trick nicely.

More info please.
What kind of running costs can you tolerate?
In the current climate, you can get a lot of metal for £1k and you will NOT need to have a "banger" or anything resembling one.
Are we talking £1k rigid, or can you goto £1500?
1500 is top limit. It's the most depressing shopping I've ever done!!
Can tolerate some running costs as I'm going to be using the train a lot now. Help me oh shiney one!

£1500 tops.
Must be able to carry you and your small people comfortably.
Diesel or petrol, not fussed.
Yeah?
Will post back tomorrow with some solutions, although PMing me the first part of your postcode will make things easier.
Sorry to come up with the obvious choice, but you can get a lot of MK2 Mondeo for less than £1k. They're old workhorses, go on and on and on and you can fit several dead bodies in the boot. Mine was a 2.0L petrol and did about 35 to the gallon, which I didn't think was bad at all. Plus, if you can get a Ghia X, you'll have lots of fancy modcons like air con and cruise control. I'd steer away from the diesels though as they're ****e.
I bought mine on 130k miles and sold it on 180k and the only problems I really ever had were it failing the MOT on drop links & wishbones. £10 for drop links, £15 a side for wishbones and a handy boyf solved that one easily though.
If you're looking for something that will do more miles to the gallon, people always recommend the Pug 306 Dturbo or the citroen zx diesel (same engine, same chassis). I hate my brother's DTurbo with a passion. It's a disgusting car which is horrendous to drive, but it's a particularly poor example and he's neglected it severely. It does around 55 to the gallon though, which was very handy when I was driving it.
Whatever you decide to get, make sure someone goes with you who knows their way around a car and will spot any glaring issues with it (not a tyre kicker).
