View Full Version : Us snail mail post (Darrin)
Does anyone know any shipping companies that can do snail mail (shipping be sea) for various parcels.
Something along the line of shared container shipping for reasonably large or heavy packages. from us to uk.

To the US or from the US?
To the US or from the US?
from the us.
Post Office to the US, USPS from the US, assuming they bother at all nowadays. :dunno:
Sorry should of put more detail in the OP.
Thinking more of shared container type shipping.
Ah, that makes things rather more complicated. Think my workplace may have done some stuff like that when moving staff around, but I haven't.

But still struggling to find shippers, worked out it's freight forwarders I need.
So far I've only found this place
http://www.gbsfreight.co.uk/index.htm
WE COLLECT - WE STORE - WE SHIP : Door to Door
Still waiting for a quote from them, but struggling to find any others.

Cheers leo, Ashleys working on a quote for me and just the service I'm looking for door to door with customs and everything else sorted.
Can't remember the name of the company we used to ship my sisters stuff back from the states, but I do remember that they never cashed the cheque :D

sweet :)
can anyone tell me what all this means please
Pier Pass Surcharge
Clean Truck Fee
Bill of Lading Security Fee
AES Fee
Handling Fee
LCL Rate
and can anyone point me in the right direction to work out import tax/duty
Sounds like they're tacking on all sorts of "fees" to jack up their rates. I mean, "clean truck fee"?? Sounds like they're charging YOU for someone to sweep the delivery truck out. "Pier pass surcharge"? Shouldn't the shipping company already have pier security badges? "Handling Fee"? Isn't that what Shipping and Handling is??
Unless it's already shipped, I'd tell them to get stuffed and that you're going elsewhere that won't charge you extra crap (some of it may be illegal) and try to get away with it.
It's just a quote and one of the cheaper quotes at that. Just wondering what they all were and if they are normall.

I could ask what they are if you like :)

That would be great if you could. I have got a quote from you guys but it seems expensive compared to american quotes. They seem to be quoting around the same price whether its usd or GBP. So obviously usd ones work out about 1/3rd cheaper. Still waiting for a few more quotes though.

I'll see if I can find out and let you know :)
right the tax code for car parts all seem to be the same 4.5% duty + vat which will be 17.5% again.
Am I right in saying
it'll be $200 (doors) + $325shipping +4.5% then add on 17.5% on top of all that.
Any idea how much destination handling and relative costs for release of goods our?
Good Lord. Much more and you could have had someone fab you up a brand new set at this rate!!
I'm still new to this area so I don't know many of the companies otherwise I would have been able to get you a deal if I was still out in Minnesota. Out here, I'm just another schlep paying full price for everything. :(
Sounds about right. The courier will usually lump a charge for collecting the tax on top (think it was in the £10-£15 range last time I got a shipment from the US, but it varies by company).
Shipping from the US to UK is horrendously expensive and often costs more than the goods themselves. :(
It's almost to the point that it would be cheaper to buy a round trip ticket on BA and hold them in your lap on the way back!!
Except that TSA won't allow car parts through the security checkpoint. :(
Hrm, checked luggage anyone? :D

yeah. Only if I still had the original panels. lesson learnt the hardway and from a respected bloke at a mopar club as well.

Think it jsu did. They want another £225 on top of the $325 for uk handling and delivery and that doesn't include custom charges and their £25 custom handling charge.
Leowatts firm quoted £525 door to door with customs and everything else. Which is better than this one. Lets hope some of the other quotes come in around the £300 mark.

Pier Pass Surcharge
Clean Truck Fee
Bill of Lading Security Fee
AES Fee
Handling Fee
LCL Rate
AES Fee – I believe this is an Inspection Fee
Handling Fee – This is the fee for the forwarder / carrier for handling the cargo/job
Clean Truck Fee – I believe this will be what you said it’s for (probably just a fee for brushing the truck out)
LCL Rate – LCL stands for Less Container Load so this will most likely be the cost for the Freight rate and the surcharge applicable for a door – door or door – quay or quay – quay move ect…
Pier Pass Surcharge – Now I have had to google this one, is your friend importing stuff from Los Angeles or Long Beach as this seem to be where this surcharge is applicable for… It looks like this is a traffic mitigation fee for cargo moving through these 2 ports during peak hours.
Bill of Lading Security Fee – this sounds like it will just be the cost for the documentation that needs to be completed and they have most likely included the port security fees.
I don't suppose anyone has used www.bundlebox.com they are ridiculously cheap as it is air freight. Coming in at about £200 cheaper than sea freight.
