I have two of them and I want to join them together.

Apparently you can't do this :/ but am sure I saw a double female adaptor at work on my computer there??!

Please enlighten.

Many thanks

You can do this. I have several such adapters. I'll try find a link for one for you.

You have to watch out for signal loss, but that shouldn't be a problem (10m isn't an issue, 50m might be).

Yeah you just need a coupler. You should be able to get them anywhere. I know B&Q do them because I had to nip out and get some from there once!

They are only a couple of quid.

Stick "RJ45 gender changer" into Google. There are loads - starting as cheap as 34p.

That's what I got a few of. Cat5e is good up to about 100m.

LOL at only £5.78. It's a few bits of plastic and copper and you can get them much cheaper.

Mine are similar, but I got them in the US while travelling.

I can probably guess. They don't stock 'em, and like almost anywhere the first-line guys don't know a huge amount about everything they do stock, let alone what they don't. It's the specialists that would need to answer that sort of question. That's what tiered support is for. :)

If you just want a longer network cable I could send you one from the masses we've collected at work. Just let me know what kind of length you want and I'll give it to you.

LOL! ;) this was the conversation:

Me: Hiya, I have two network cables and I want an adaptor to join them together - do you sell them and how much are they?
PCWorld Noob: So you want connect your computer wirelessly (.... er no?!)
Me: No. I have two network cables (do you know what these are?!) these are the ones where one end is plugged into the hub and the other end into my laptop?!
Him: Right...
Me: Well, I have two cables and want to join them together, but I need an adaptor...Do you have an adapter fem to fem to do this?
PCWN: You can get a new lead we have 5m or 20m (or something I don't know I wasn't really listening) or you can get an Ethernet hub...we don't do adaptors
Me: How much is the ethernet hub?
Him: £20ish (Me: :/ hmm... I JUST WANT AN ADAPTOR!!)
Me: OK I will go and have a look in the store... thanks!
Him: Hello hello?!
Me: Hello? Yes?
Him: If you order over the phone its cheaper... it costs... la la la
Me: No you're ok I will call back once I've been to the store.
Him: OK thanks for calling *hung up*

I'll take a look tomorrow. There will definitely be 5m ones as that's a standard length, but we may have some slightly longer ones that we've made ourselves. We're moving departments next month so most of them will only get chucked out anyway. Amazing when you think how much high street shops charge for them.

Ah, OK, I was wrong, but that makes it even worse than I feared. Don't ever ask a purple shirted person anything technical. Some of them know that they're on about, but most will either run away, look startled, or spout rubbish. It just isn't worth the risk. ;D

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to deny all knowledge. :lipsrsealed: ;)

However, most of the online retailers are like that if you phone them. email tends to do better because they can pass it around internally first. :)

Feel free to send them to my work, we seem to have a real lack of any network cables over 2m :/

Box of 5e, connectors and a crimp tool wont set you back all that much?!

We've already got all that, just a pain to have to make one with a standard 5m will do the job perfectly.

the only pre-made ones we have are patch cables for the server room. The rest involve, crimp tool, box of cable and crimp heads. I'm usually the one who gets lumbered with the job because I'm the best at it ;D
