I need some advice.

My wife is rekindling her consultancy business and is getting me to do her a static web site. Whilst I'm happy with design/coding other than using my own ISP proivided web space I've never looked at commercially hosting anything.

She won't have a great amount of traffic and the site will be static/info. based and realisticly below 50Mb in content with no videos.

What's her best option?

She'd also need to register a .co.uk domain name; how do I best go about this?

Cheers!

You've made the right choice by not tying a business domain to your ISP.

As for the rest - http://www.vidahost.com/ - run by a member here (Beansprout).

Another vote for Vidahost :) I use it for two sites and have never had a problem, touch wood :D Excellent prices too imo.

My current hosting is up for renewal soon, might look at vidahost and see if they are any cheaper.
